i used to have an old p150em with a 7970m, however the laptop died a while ago when power handling circuitry on the mobo fried itself. i got myself a p157sma afterwards with a gtx 970m. i actually used the 7970m in the new laptop for a little bit when metal gear solid 5 came out and the 970m was totally bugged and would not play it at all, it worked just fine if a little slow because of the age difference. i ended up selling the 7970m to someone who also had a p150em, however when he received it he claimed it would not work, it would just black screen whenever he booted and tried everything on both windows 7 and 10. he sent it back for me to look at and try and lo and behold it does not work on mine either, which as i said previously worked like a charm before. ive tried to flash a few different vbios to see if it would work, but they don't, however it does take bios flashes just fine with no errors. what happens is that the startup animation will play, and then it will just freeze that screen as the login sound plays and the various sound effects that programs make when they start, telling me that the whole system is working just fine, but handing the rendering over to the dgpu and its not working. hdmi does not work either. i have to go into my bios (prema mod v2) and disable the dgpu to force rendering to be done by the igpu to even use my laptop, as there does not seem to be a way to force igpu rendering without just disabling the dgpu which sucks because it makes tinkering that much harder.
what is going on with my card? is it dead from just sitting in a box for a few months? also it is a v1.2.

It's entirely possible the 7970m is dead, I remember quite a few months ago there were tones and tones of posts here of 7970m cards dying. Probably because they ran so hot for so long and nobody undervolted them, etc.

but that doesnt make sense, i ran the card for a while in the original laptop, then it died and sat in the carcass in my closet for a bit, then i used it again when mgs5 came out, then it went back in the dead laptop, then i stripped it and sold off the parts. how could it have died from sitting in my closet for a few months? i have gpus in a box in my room that still work despite being from like 2004

It's also very possible that this guy swapped your working 7970M for one which had already died, then returned the broken one to you.

Maybe a driver issue? Or connect an external screen to see if it works? Can you boot into safe mode and uninstall the 7970M from device manager?

woodzstack Alezka Computers , Official Clevo reseller.
stop using other people's vbios and use the stock ones, you realise Clevo has a very large company and they have dozens of people around the world from various retailers, who have people who do nothing but bioses and vbios daily - all day, full time staff, not just some hobby to add a neat little trick here and there to overcome a older deficiency. The reason why many opt to say Prema or other vbioses is because they purchase these cards from shady sources that have no vbios support, and are stuck with some unmatches vbios on the card. Just get an official stock vbios first then see if that works. If then going nuts is what you need/want next, maybe Prema has something for that too, like something that adds onto the existing latest vbios release for a card. Also I think your using a very old vbios. Wasn;t v2 like last year or 2014 ? we're up to a v13 now. or v12 depending on which system.
what is up with my gpu
