    Hello,

I was looking into the possibility of upgrading my laptop. Reading the forum seems to indicate 680M is the maximum for nvidia cards (with special vbios), as 780M does not work for some reason. How does the situation look for AMD cards?
Also, are later models (EM) also affected by a "maximum upgrade" already?
Thank you for your input in advance.

Technically, AMD 8970m is a rebranded 7970m with 15mhz higher clock.
Maybe with another vBIOS it could work on the HM series.
To avoid the risk, just use 7970m, it will work and probably be cheaper than nvidia's options.

7970M with the hm bios is the best.

Thanks! I'll see what ebay has to offer.
I am wondering if it makes more sense to upgrade to 7970m/680m or shell out more and get whatever Sager release this year. So far the reports of 880m are extremely disappointing. I pretty much would like to play witcher 3 once it comes out without having to dial the graphics down too much.
By the way, is it still the case that with 7970m the hdmi audio does not work?

Depends on the price and the current condition of your machine.

With the 680M you can't put computer to sleep(screen will be black after wake), with the 7970M you most likely won't have HDMI output.
