That's actually what I'm wondering, because I need to RMA my machine now, and it may be a GPU issue.

I'm trying to hold out for something new from AMD, so I can buy the upgrade when it ships.

looks like mythlogic is only sager seller left with 6970m

    MYTHLOGIC :: Mobile

malibal, powernotebooks, sager, pc torque, and xotic all dropped the 6970m (due to supply, not performance)

7000m eh, where is the 6990m then?

I'm wondering if I should hold off my RMA. I was going to change to 485m, now I don't know anymore.

    Yep...

But if the 7xxxm series will be released this july, the high-end cards can´t be too far away... maybe 2-3 months?
    Who knows... ;)

According to the road map they're releasing low/mid end 7000 well before the end of the year. These will be drastically slower than 6970 though.

The high end 7000 aren't expected until Q2 of next year.
    6990, who knows when

HD7450M was spotted on Dell Canada by an NBR member a few weeks ago.

It has the same specs as an HD6400M card so it's either a typo or a rebrand....though typo is looking less likely since it's gone unfixed for so long.

Just to add my 2 cents:

I just recently got my P150-HM from a Danish retailer with the 6970M and it has been running flawlessly so far.

As it should be :D If it shipped from your reseller, then that machine was thoroughly tested at least once along the way. That's why straight up dead parts at boot are very very unusual.

Well, earlier I said i RMA'ed my laptop and they found the CPU was at fault, well, got my laptop for a few days and now I have to RMA it a second time, they suspect it's the GPU again. I get flickering on the screen, and GSOD, and sometimes blue/green horizontal lines.

At this point probably going to return to my reseller and reorder with a 485m/580m card instead.

I wish mine was as good as yours, as I'd rather save the extra money, but I'm kind of worried about the 6970m longevity of it too. Otherwise I'd definitely stick to the 6970m. Well, at least it'd be nice to try out the 3d stuff (I know AMD has HD3D, but not so polished as nVidia's) and physx with the 485m. :)

I agree. Something hasn't been designed correctly with the card, and I hope whatever that is doesn't affect the longevity if it hasn't already shown problems initially.

um...looks like i picked up the right choice for this 485M vs 6970M competition

but I still hope AMD can keep up the good work and make nVidea drop price on future products.

The AMD 6990M has now been added to the Clevo website's manual and driver download pages. That may explain why there's been a "shortage" of the 6970M, if they were just clearing stock in anticipation of the new part.

I ordered my Clevo (Sager built NP8150) w/ 6970M in mid June, 1-2 weeks before the 6970M option was removed. I've been running it for a month and a half with fairly heavy gaming sessions and I have had zero issues. My 6970M is working flawlessly so far.

I am using the stock drivers:

    Driver Packaging Version 8.81-101208a-111204C-Clevo

It's possible there was a bad batch of 6970's released around May. Has anyone received a bad 6970M after ordering in mid June?

Probably was a bad batch that got sent out. Still, I don't have much faith in the longevity of these cards. I undervolt and use max fan speed to get it running as cool as possible. And since it's a relatively new card all you can do is hope it lasts you for awhile.

It has been nearly two months and I have been gaming quite a bit without a single issue. I'm really happy with my Sager NP8150. It is my very first own laptop. Next laptop I will buy in a few years or so will be from Sager.

I'd have to say that it was hit or miss. Some experienced higher temperatures than others. Generally the large majority of people had no temperature issues though :)

Any reason for posting? Are you thinking about getting one?
