i know, they're supposed to be cheaper now.... but, is there a way i can send my 8690 to somewhere so that they can upgrade it for me?

and speaking of GPUs, can a GTX 485m go into the 8690?

You could get a ES 920XM (there's really no difference between 920Xm and 940XM in terms of OC'ing potential) of Ebay for 400$ and do it yourself. It would be much more expensive to send it to a reseller. Do you still have warranty? Also, what's your location?

Heres a list of on line stores that should have it.

    Intel Core i7 2.13 GHz Processor ( mobile )

Newegg.com did have them but, they seem to be out of stock call and check with them. Except for Ebay it looks like they are still priced over 1000USD.

As for putting it in your sager, I thought sager were easy to upgrade. From the ones I've seen simply take off the back, and everything is there for the taking GPU, CPU etc. I mean alot easier than when I upgraded my Toshiba. I had to take the whole thing apart (I mean everything) :p

That should help a little. Letting you know where everythings located. And, if you replace your CPU-YES, YES and YESSSSSS replace the thermal paste. Unless of course you want to fry your lappy. I used IC Diamond 24 carat diamond compound for mine. Everything runs nicely

No chance at all. Swapping the CPU is really easy though and allowed in the warranty.

You really don't need much of a tutorial.

    1. Take off the back panel
    2. Remove the CPU heatsink
    3. Swap CPUs
    4. Apply thermal compound
    5. Attach CPU heatsink
    6. Attach back panel

    It's simple.

I am also interested in information about GPU options for the w860cu/NP8690.

Any more news about the AMD 6970 from resellers other than eurocom?

And what about the 485m? I know there are claims that someone in china has fitted a 485m into their w860cu, but there's no more information than the rumour...

    EDIT:
According to this page, Eurocom sells the 6970 as an upgrade for $575

Are you saying that only some specific 485m cards will work with the w860cu and that such a card was sold for 2400 USD? If so that is insane

Personally I have only seen 460's and 470's in the W86Cu chassis

As for the 6970, treat it like you would rocking horse...

I certainly have never seen one or heard of them being fitted to a W86

If the 6970M indeed matches the 485M, you'd be looking at close to 50%.
