    where to place pads?

    this is what I see when I take off the heatsinks from the cpu and video card for a p170sm-a. I have no idea if pads have fallen off or not but is there any place that I should put additional thermal pads on?

    I think you wanted to paste picture here. Pads should be deformed. You can match the deformation with motherboard.

    Pads mate to the voltage regulator chips as the most important part. They can also mate to the inductors and capacitors.

    Are any still stuck to the heatsink? The yellow rectangles are correct yes.
