hi i am set to take a vaction to either malaysia, singapore, hong kong, or taiwan
i was also thinking of getting myself a new notebook during this vacation and i wanna get a sager 8662 with the new 260gtx when it becomes available
i saw the faq sticky but the listed stores there have outdated data or have no info available.
wondering if anyone can direct to a trusted/quality oriented sager reseller in those countries cause i think where i take my next vacation is where i buy my sager![]()
cheers
-
I don't know any asian retailers, but i can direct you to someone who does.
CLEVO CO.
ADD: 129, Hsing-Te Rd., Sun Chung City 241,Taipei Hsien, Taiwan, R.O.C.
TEL: 886-2-22789696
http:// www.clevo.com.tw
E-mail: [email protected]
Clevo makes the notebooks that Sager resells. They don't do end customer sales, but if you contact them I'm sure they can help you out. -
in Singapore, as far as i know, it's Cube:
http://www.sgcubehubs.com/home
PS. Say "Hi" to Malaysia from me -
Unless you actually live in the city state itself, you just have to hope you don't need the warranty. In practice this usually involves praying for the lives of pixels
Unless you fry the motherboard, the cost of fixing it locally will usually be lower than DHL'ing it to anywhere (and probably paying customs, VAT etc to authorities that don't accept it as a re-import).
If you're OK with that, then most resellers in the guide (sticky) will ship to any place on earth, provided you pay by bank transfer. So you can pick one residing in a country with a weak currency and go with them? -
it would be cheaper for me to taks a vacation in some asian country that sell sager, buy it, and have a great holiday to boot.... -
None here in Malaysia. There is one in Singapore though and it's the cube, as starche mentioned before.
-
i guess my ng vacay will be in sing
are they(the cube) reliable and fairly priced (like exoticpc)? -
-
http://www.sgcubehubs.com/inc/sdetail/248
They are listing it for S$2668 which is US$1769 so that certainly isn't bad. You still have to fly to Singapore to get it, though. Have you ever thought of buying it from Xoticpc and using a cargo service like this: http://www.manilaforwarder.com/? -
also i wouldnt mind flying to singapore since the flights there now are dirt cheap but imnot so sure about the integrity of sgcubehubs
actually i would be more secure if i could buy it from a retail outlet and test the unit right then and there. im not sure if the cube has a retail store although they do have an address in sing
any of you have an idea? -
imho the advantage of ordering rather then buying it in is the chance to get exactly you want, but not some1 else. and furthermore - what you want to check in the shop? i believe it's better to do at home, in the chair, with a bottle of cold bear
relax, u've got the warranty
But anyway - you to decide -
Just a thought for the OP...
I compared the price for Clevo D901C/Sager NP9262 in these 3 sites:
Cube -> Singapore Sager Reseller
XoticPC -> US Sager Reseller
RJtech -> Clevo Reseller
I set the spec to be the same. The results are:
1. RJ Tech price is the lowest. Like XoticPC, you also can get 3% cash discount, you just have to email them.
2. Cube price (converted to US$) is $2889 vs $2464 from RJ Tech
So buying from Cube is $425 higher and you still have to pay for shipping and tax (about 10%) even though you're in SG.
I emailed RJ Tech few days ago, using UPS, the shipping cost to Indonesia is $300 with $220 tax to be paid when the item is delivered. I have a friend in SG, assuming I ask RJ Tech to send it to SG instead, I think the shipping cost and tax will be the same since SG and IND is really close.
IMHO, you should go with RJ Tech instead because you can buy a "pure" barebone from them, w/o CPU, RAM, HDD, OS, WiFi, etc. You can buy these parts in your country and get better warranty for the parts (ie. if the HDD fails, you dont have to ship it back to SG). -
ill give you a +1 for that
ill try to contact rj tech and see what they say
thanks -
ok, let me know the result
-
taxes/duties are too high. that really sucks man -
what did RJ tech told you? can you post their email here?
-
no word on rj tech yet but duties run in the area of 40to100% in my country for a notebook thats like buying 2 lappys
-
have it send it to the country you're going to visit then.
you have relatives in Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore? -
Just a note, cubehubs is NOT an official Sager reseller. They basically order it off the Sager website for you, and handle any repairs that are necessary.
-
-
I'm from Singapore and I wish to clarify that products entering S'pore that are above S$400 is subjected to 7% GST (Goods & Services Tax).
I highly recommend buying from Xotix PC, because the warranty from Cube Hub is slightly dodgy, and furthermore, cubehub does not offer dead pixel warranty (If you're a perfectionist nut).
Shipping to S'pore from Xotic PC costs US$249, which includes tracking information, vital if you don't want a $(X)k postal gone MIA.
If you pay through a Singaporean bank, you will be subjected to agent fees, which should be less than S$80, and also the bank may take 1/8% of the total transferred amount, of which the minimum amt taken is S$10 and maximum amount will be $100. For me, the bank only takes S$10 from me.
Hope this clear the stuff up for you. Enjoy your stay in SEA! -
There is only 2 things for sure in this world: Death and Tax.

Btw, RJ Tech price is lower than XoticPC price by small margin, only $10-40.
I was going to recommend XoticPC to the OP, since Xotic known for really good aftersales and have a representative in this forum. But the thing is, you can't buy pure Clevo/Sager barebone from Xotic. You can only configure them.
My idea to buy from RJ Tech is because they offer Clevo laptops as barebone. So you can later buy your essential parts in your own country and if something bad happen (eg. defected RAM, failed HDD, etc), you dont have to ship it back to US. -
and btt: dunno how your country handles this, but if i go on vacation and get a laptop there, on returning home i will have to pay the taxes just on arrival on the airport. if i dont declare the import of the laptop and get caught ill have to pay 2x the taxes...
same goes if i have someone sent me this thing, theyre x-raying almost every package and find it, ill have to pay taxes, and if it was not declared ill pay 2-times the taxes...
dunno how your county handles this, but i would think that tax-collectors are the same all over the world ... -
So, if i buy a new laptop from US, for example, I will have to make it look like it's already used (eg. out of the box, hand carry, maybe put a sticker on it, etc). -
Please note you are also liable to pay for agent fees, which I'm not sure how much they will cost, as the funds is still sitting around in my bank, haha. I will update you as soon as I know the amount.
Still, buying a notebook from its native country (i.e. Xotic PC in the US) is the best option, because it has no costly shipping tags.
If you need more wire transfer/telegraphic transfer information, this is the best I can pull out from my local bank:

This is getting off-topic -
-
thanks for the info and please do update me about your transaction experience! -
I see that you are from the Philippines as well. There are some freight forwarders in the States who can ship it to Manila as well. Johnny Air is one such company. Expect to pay less than 10,000 pesos to get them to ship the laptop from the States.
If in case you want XoticPC to ship it straight to the Philippines, you get to pay the $249 shipping cost and 15% international tax once it gets here. Oh and the 15% is 15% of the purchase price+shipping cost. -
10K pesos = ? US$
Anyone know forwarder freight to Indonesia?
And do we get insurance and tracking information? -
10k pesos is about 200 USD, the good thing about freight forwarders is you get to avoid paying for international taxes when your laptop arrives.
-
Tracking and insurance? -
Now that would depend on the freight forwarder, some have both tracking and insurance as well. It's best to find one with an office in both your local area, Indonesia in your case, and one in the States as well.
-
how is this done? do they repack your item to avoid being charged duties and taxes.
i asked johnny air sometime last year about this and they said it seems like a case to case thing.
what i understand about that statement is, if they 'sneak' it in then you pay no tax, but if they cant then you pay the taxes and as far as i know it ranges from 40 to 100% and not 15% as stated above. and thats the main reason why notebooks and other electronic items are so expensive in the philippines.
your thoughts? -
perhaps you can ask the seller to declare the item as gift? because as far as i know, gift is not taxed. serviced item also have lower tax.
or you can ask the seller to declare the value of the item to be less than original, like $1000 (instead of original value $2000+). So it will lower your tax. -
I made the mistake of ordering my laptop and having it sent through the usual customs, that's why I know of the 15% international tax in the Philippines. -
So Johnny Air is like Millennium Falcon in Star Wars eh?
Can it deliver to other country beside Phillipines? -
-
www.rakitnotebook.com -
so rakitnotebook is the only one sager's indonesian reseller?
thanks for the info -
They use currency exchange at IDR 12,000 per US$.
The price is indeed higher than the price at other resellers in US or Europe, but if you live in Indonesia, the price is still lower than if you buy Sager from US and have it sent here.
Try setup the same configuration in XoticPC and RJ Tech. And then add shipping to Indonesia and add 10% tax to the total amount. You will get a higher cost than if you buy directly from rakitnotebook Showroom.
The price for individual parts is indeed expensive though. GeForce 9800M GT at $575, Intel WiFi 5300 at $78.... -
By the way, discussion of avoiding duties is considered somewhat shady on NBR.
-
-
we are not talking about illegal means like smuggling or theft.
we are trying to discover options for getting a laptop like hand-carrying the device or using forwarders.
i dont see how this could ever be construed as shady or illegal -
My apologies if this kind of discussion is not allowed in NBR. Maybe PM's would suffice if you guys have any questions. -
Evasion of taxes = ?
Go with PMs if you must. -
evasion occurs when you HAVE to ba taxed and you DON'T do it!
they are talking about how to avoid to be exposed to this duty making a right and wise choise! -
they are definitely operating within the system to eradicate/reduce tarrifs for clients. but definitely nothing illegal,.
if you exploit a ruling or loophole of a certain law it is not commiting a crime - its called being smart.
wheres the best place to get a sager in asia?
