If you wish to paint it that way
Just so you know, I could care less about what you guys are doing, merely pointing out that some frown on open discussion of such means.
-
i dont think im painting it any way.
im just stating facts here. and there is nothing illegal in what ive stated -
anyone know of any reliablle sager retailers in hongkong?
-
Well, I kind of agreed with dtwn though...
I dont know what "shady" means, but I think it's kind of un-ethical for us to discuss this in open forum because the condition of each country is different.
I myself never intended to bypass the tax. But it's the customs that get me worried because they are notorious for losing packages, losing part of a package, mark up the tax above the law, asking "dirty money" before they release packages that looks expensive, etc. -
Haha, looking through the comments, I guess Singapore has the least aggressive tax, eh?
Anyway, it should be vital for one to always double check on their customs website or give them a call.
Maybe someone ought to make a list of all taxes/duties imposed by the different countries and do a sticky
I'd love to make the first contribution: http://www.customs.gov.sg/leftNav/trad/cle/Internet+PurchasesPostal+Parcels.htm (Singapore) -
We tax differently. we don't have an import tax on consumer electronics. Whereas some countries tax more for electronics. In addition to that, our sales tax is relatively low compared to the VAT charged in many countries.
-
Don't forget this is a 'developing' country we're talking about. If you have the right 'connections' something which is 100% illegal can get done without any penalty. Also, governments in some of these counties are too busy trying to (eg) provide proper sanitation, to worry about some 'loophole' allowing the odd notebook to slip in without 100 USD of customs.
The law is clear - if you import something you have to pay duty/VAT. Beyond that it depends how big this loophole is. Most probably it is something very, very thin. Like 'this is not a computer, it's a lump of processed silicon and plastic' sort of loophole. Most people think that if you pay a broker (or similar) 50 USD to 'clear' it for you (when you know the legitimate duty is 100 USD even without a fee) then their own conscience is clear. Up to the OP...
I used to be a tax adviser for Asia so this was always a top ethical topic

when will NP8662 come to indonesia? -
You live in Indonesia? Where?
PS: I want to send you a PM, but your post is too low, so I can't send one. -

btw, how many posts should i get so i can get "pm" ? -
Someone told me you have to post 15 posts. But when I'm newbie, I get PM access when I'm posted 13 posts. AND... I can PM you now, so I guess you only need 6 posts?
-

We need to carify that our prices were included of S'pore 7% GST and Shippment cost. So we dont think our prices were higher than RJ Tech and XoticPC in term of Shipment and Tax Cost.
We also offer 3% instant cash discount.
Cheers

I think that not so nice to post this unless you confirm with Sager yourself that we were not official Sager reseller.
To check for our reseller status, you can email to [email protected] (Sales Manager for Sager Notebook) anytime.
