Hey guys, I'm planning to buy a decent cooler pad for my future NP 8130.
So far, I'm quit interested in the Cooler Master U3 with its adjustable fans.
Is it a good cooler pad?
Please feel free to give your opinions.
    Thanks.

Heard they don't last very long.. Maybe measure up where your j take vents and take a small ruler to the store with you. Sure you may look a bit silly, but you'll get a more efficient cooler :)

I have a coolermaster cf-19, got it cheap cuz my cousin works at frys. I think it works great on my Dell (since my 8150 isn't here yet). It's all about positioning it correctly on the cooler. The most air seems to flow from the edges of the fan, so don't measure to the center of the fans

Ooor, if you've got some time just build one yourself :D that way it'd be perfect. I may do this over the summer :)

If you do, can I have your SF-19 please? :D

If not, could you hook me up with one from your cousin? Lol :p How much of a discount are we talking about?

Sorry, he's about to quit so we used up the last of his discount :D he bought some Beats headphones (got like $75 off), and I bought an orochi mouse (saved $20), Bluetooth adapter (got for like $4), and the cooler (for like $40 I think)..

If I get a satisfactory one built, I'll be sure to let you in on a special deal for the sf-19 ;)

Hmm... Unfortunately, I don't have any idea how to DIY a notebook cooler myself.

Can anyone please recommend a decent cooler pad for my NP 8130? :(

ya, I'm also thinking to get the Notepal U3 but am quit worried about its cooling effectiveness.

Hope some current Sager NP8130/NP 8150 users can enlighten us.

i think just block up the bottom will be good :)
the notebook cooler which with fan, it may cause static electricity to the dust passing by the fan, and stick inside notebook......especially in dry air
so its better to clean internal more often when using notebook cooler

Unless you are planning on using the NP8130 in a manner that will block the intake vents (eg. on your lap, on a bed, on a sofa), or in an exceptionally warm environment, it is unlikely that you will need a cooler, especially before you have the machine in your hands.

If you really want one, then get one with movable fans, or fans that are closer to the back half. Or, save some money and make one yourself.

    I see.

Well, I think most of the time I'll be using it on my table.
Maybe I'm over excited because this is my first computer and I really hope that it can lasts for 4-5years as I'm still a student.

Yes, I really need one, so I guess the CM Notepal U3 would be my best choice, what do you think about it? Is it good or just so-so?

I hope to build one too but portability is a big concern for me so I guess I'll just stick to my old plan.

Wow! It's unbelievable! Unfortunately, Zalman is too expensive for me and my budget is only around $30.00.

Anyway, thanks for your recommendation bro.

The U3 should be decent, especially with the movable fans. I had the same feeling you did just after I ordered my 8150, that maybe I should invest in a notebook cooler as well. Then, I had people give me the same advice I gave you, and I also saw that others with something like the Strike Force SF-19 were only able to reduce temps by a couple degrees C. Now, I'm glad I did not spend any money on the cooler because this machine cools just fine.

I will wait till it's summer before re-evaluating my choice, since temps here sometimes do increase by about 10degreesC.

With regards to the NC2000, you will notice that the vents on that are concentrated on the front half to 2/3 of the cooler, whereas the 8130's vents are all on the back half. The supports on the corners and bottom will help prop up the notebook a bit, but you won't be maximizing that cooler's abilities.

    you're right man.
I just checked the picture and found out that I won't be able to maximize the cooler's abilities by using the NC2000.

Cryo LX or SF-19 for a stationary laptop. unfortunately, your $30 dollar budget won't provide u with many choices that actually work, when it comes to notebook coolers. if u don't want to dish out the extra money then the U3 should be enough. the most important thing with pairing your notebook with an active cooler is making sure that the cooler's airflow matches up with your notebook's vent/exhaust set up.

as for a portable solution, i prefer things that are much more convenient. i recommend something along the lines of the Targus X-Pad or those "Cool Balls" u can find for around $0.99 cents.

Ya, I'm not going to put a dent on my wallet as the laptop itself already has a decent ventilation system. So, I guess CM Notepal U3 would be the best choice for me to increase my laptop's lifespan. :D

Thanks for giving me your opinions. I really appreciate it. :D

Wow! nice, hope you can get your machine soon.
Anyway, thanks for your suggestion. :p

One thing I dislike with the NP8130 is how the fans are always cycling on and off every 20 seconds or so, has anyone found a notebook cooler that helps with this? I've tried the CM Notepal U2 (not U3) and found it didn't make much of a difference for idle temperatures even after lining the fans up with the CPU and GPU vents.

u might wanna give the NZXT cryo LX or the SF-19 a try. my 480M won't budge past 67*c - 68*c after all day of playing Rift.

Want to bump this. I'm interested to know if you get a good cooler will it quiet the system down and overall reduce noise levels?

weird. mine has never done that. they pretty much run quietly and ever once in a while they will speed up a little bit but nothing that is bothersome when I'm running FSX. the entire unit is cool at all times which is weird, as we have a toshiba, gateway, 2 acers, HP DM4 and I HAD a couple of DV6's--all of which run between WARM and HOT without gaming. the sager is the master of temperature control without irritating noise.

I've pointed it out elsewhere, but I wouldn't worry about a cooling pad right away. The P151HM1 runs pretty darn cool on its own. If you monitor temps with something like HWinfo after you get it and they seem high, you may want to look into a cooling pad.

I have a feeling that cooling pads are mostly effective not because they have fans, but because they put the machine on a solid surface (where people may have been using it in their laps- and on these machines, air intake is on the bottom). :D

im going to do one once i go to college. i have some fans left over from when i modded my xbox, and ill put them in laptop board underneath the intakes, and it will have its own ventialtion shaft. usb/battery powered, and possibly sound activated lights, that are directional.

One simple thing you can do is simply find a way to elevate the laptop to provide additional room for cool air intake.

My desk has a glass top, and noticeable heat would build up under my older Dell laptop. Since I essentially dock the laptop (external monitor, keyboard, mouse), I simply elevated the laptop about 0.75" with four small plastic risers sitting under the rubber feet. It runs noticeably cooler this way.

I plan to do the same with my new Malibal unit.... if it ever gets here!
