the following options are for the NP8170-S1.

    120GB Intel X25-M Solid State Drive (SSD2 Serial-ATA II) ( + 215 )

    0r

    17.3" FHD 16:9 "Glare Type" Super Clear Ultra Bright LED Glossy Screen w/ 90% NTSC Color Gamut (1920x1080) ( + 220 )

Wow, if you give us the option to choose A, B or A&B,

of course the answer is going to be A&B...

    :D

It is a tough call actually.. Do you need 120GB? I was using 80GB and it was more than plenty, and I'm selling mine for $100.. :D

What exactly did you have with the OS on your 80GB ssd? Oh ya, why are you selling your drive?? I'm planning to put CS5, maybe 2 or 3 games and the OS on the 120GB with extra space left. I was thinking the 80GB wouldn't be enough for all that.

The new screen xoticpc is offering is very tempting!

I had the OS, Black Ops, magic the gathering(yeah geeky..), matlab, latex, adobe pro, office, and idk.. it was pretty standard.

I had like 20GBs left over of my 80GB, so I had plenty of room myself.

Of course, it is good to play safe and go with the 120GB, but the new Intel G3 drives are hitting on March 11th, and I wouldn't buy a new Intel drive now, unless it is used at a good price..

I would go for the Screen because the SSD is easier to upgrade in the future. The screen would be harder...

Yup, the SSD can always be upgraded in the future, screen will be a hassle to do so.

And if you do upgrade to the SSD in the future you can use your existing HDD as a backup or external.

If i recall Kingston SSD drives comes with an enclosure, imaging software and a cable for specifically this purpose.

This is true but the new Intel G3 drives are coming out next month. Intel's new SSD will come out way before I can get my hands on the laptop. Xoticpc will probably carry the SSD before I get to even use the laptop. When that happens, I can probably upgrade both components at the same time.

Seems to be the majority opinion and probably your best bet. Here's why:

    1. Let's say you go for the SSD and later realize you want the bigger screen. You order said screen and now you're stuck with a screen ... not many options on what to do with it. Maybe e-bay?

    2. Now if you were to get the screen now and a HDD - 1-2 years down the line you can get an SSD and:
    a) use the old HDD as a backup drive/secondary drive/external file server.
    b) ebay it

What i'm trying to say is you can do a lot more with a HDD than a spare monitor that fits a specific need.

    My 2 cents.

This makes sense too. I will be going with the upgraded screen route. I wouldn't know how to switch out a screen by myself so I'd rather let the professionals do it for me.

Like I read a while ago, there are new Intel SSDs coming out in March so I'll just wait for that.
