i already did kinda make a similar thread in the hardware section, but u guys are clevo fanatics... and i plan on getting the D900 with dual 8700s wen thats possible.. but i wanna put the new E6850 in it, rather than the x6800, but thats not an option, so wat if i select a rele cheap processor, or none at all, and put in this http://shopping.trustedreviews.com/US/product/37893018/Intel_Core_2_Duo_E6850_Processor/
would that cuz problems.. is the same pin socket.... better specs than x6800 yet less than half the cost!

at the moment, there is no official word for the E6850 support with the D900C/D901C

    Even Intel's site needs updating.

Although from the specs, there should not be any big issue with it working in the notebook... maybe with a slight BIOS update.

Just sit tight, this info will come out as soon as Clevo gets to test the notebook with it. :)

yea I have been waiting for the movie for over 3 years now. :D

    Took them long enough.

As for the Intel Core 2, I do not believe that there will be a great difference in performance between that CPU as compared to the comparable E6700 or even X6800.

Have you taken a look at my extensive CPU-based (for notebooks) Hall of Fame?
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=123570

As you can see, even the top scores all fall into the same range for E6700 to X6800... about 3-7% difference on average.

check this out.. a test of all the processors, you're rite, its not a great difference, but it competes in gaming with the x6800 for only 300$ rather than 900$.... same performance for 1/3 the price.... im still drooling...

p.s. if u look at other tests the new extremes and quad-cores beat it out but for encoding and stuff, but this article specifically states to go with this processor over quad cores for gaming... not that i could LEGALLy put in a quad-core anyway... even tho it does work... >:-]... i'll save that for next two years...

EDIT: called pcmicro, they said they tested the E6850.. and it has some diff type of architecture "a step up" so it probably won't be included on their website wen they update it for the 8700s... wat the hell?
i rele don't see how wouldn't be able to handle it... same pins, heat, power, and it already handles the x6800!

It uses the 1333mhz FSB the D901C uses a 1066mhz FSB it will work but will be much slower...due to multiplier settings. Since the D901C can't change those settings it would run much slower. Your best bet is to wait for the X6900 3.2Ghz to be released around Christmas. It will be 1066FSB.

so if i do get the x6800 which u broke the mark with, would u suggest i get the dual 8700s or 7950s? keep in mind i do want Dx10, but still would hope to get a bmark like urs... u think 8700s Oc'ed would do it?

I went with the SLI 7950GTX's because they are the fastest (atm), I'm just waiting for the 8800's to roll out and I'll be sending my unit back to PCMicro for them to change out the CPU to a X6900 and the dual 8800's. If you don't plan on changing them out go with the SLI 8700's if you plan on changing them out go with the 7950's for the next 6 months.

Wu Jen... WHERE r u getting the money to do all this :p.
i dont think its worth my while to keep the 7950s for only six months... but yea SLi 8700s i see in my future... its all about the processor.. i'd love to see the x6800... but it cost Waaaay too much! i'll prolly go with the 2.66, the E6700 i think rite? dont matta, i'm ordering next tuesday the LATEST... and by then the 8700s should at least be on the websites even if they dont get them till mid aug.
