I have been thinking about reviving my p170hm/np8170, but can't find a motherboard for it. I can get a np9170 motherboard, and the layouts look almost identical. I wouldn't mind if I had to mod the case a little for some of the ports.

Also, would I need a new keyboard? I heard somewhere that the connectors are not the same...

The ports on the left side are different. Instead of 3 usb ports at the same height on the HM, you get 2 USB + 1 eSATA/USB combo port at slightly different heigh on the EM. The 4th port on the left side is also different.

I have a dremel, so the ports wouldn't really be an issue as long as it would WORK. Does anyone know if the 9170 mobo has an internal UDP port for a 120hz display? I have both, so its really just a matter of swapping the lcd out to whichever one will work and selling the other on ebay.

I have seen someone doing it on a Chinese Forum. You will definitely have to dremel quiet a bit and have to keep using the old keyboard. eDP port is present but not properly connected and non functional as it is.

The NP8150 was using a single web cam, with a single wire option. The NP8265 uses 4 webcams with maybe 2 different wires, one of which is not documented in the official Clevo service manuals. Look up my recent threads detailing how I and Malibal figured this out.

The chassis may accomodate the physical dimensions of the motherboard, but you may run into surprises when it comes to the periferals.

Well, the service manual for this laptop lists three possible webcams. The one I currently have installed, which works, is none of those. The most likely explanation is that the service manual is inaccurate. But my point was that between revisions, even though the chassis looks almost identical, some of the built in peripherals may have changed.

Well small parts like that can simply come down to who has the cheapest modules (or the ability to supply the needed run) with the right spec.

Really all I need it to do is be a mobile powerhouse.... I don't need the webcam or fingerprint reader although it would be nice. As long as I can do this Ill give it a try. I'm planning on picking up a board sometime over the holidays, so Ill let everyone know how it turns out.
