I'm about to go on a road trip and thought it would be nice to play some games on the way. So I got myself a power converter. It says that it'll give a continuous output of 100w and peak output of 200. I think this is enough to run my np8150 but wanted to verify it here.

Also, even if it does work, is this bad for the car battery?

The NP8150 has a 180w adapter. If it rated at continuous of 100w and you're stressing it at 180w for a long trip that could be taxing on the adapter. If you get get a 200w continuous that adapter would probably be better.

Jump in the car and give it a try. Plug it in, stress it out, and see if it gets unusually hot. Some car adapters even come with a beeping warning system if it being over taxed.

You can give it a try, but I think it'll blow the fuse on the power converter. Peak of 200 isn't something it can maintain indefinitely. I'd highly recommend looking for a converter that can do a continuous 150-200w minimum. You can't go much higher than that though unless you upgrade all the wiring in the car or run the converter directly off the battery.

I posted in this thread a while back, and it may be useful:

thanks for the input. the other thread you linked to was very informative. I found another power inverter at walmart with a continuous output of 200w and peak of 400. I think that'll do the trick but there's nothing for it but to try it out I guess. I don't think my lappie will need more power than this though.
