yup, did it finally...after months to over a year of waiting...

waited for the montevina release so the 9262 would drop in price/increase options

    well, it kinda did,
instead of being cheaper, I opted for the 3x 320gb 7200rpm drives in raid 5 which made it a couple hundred more, plus i didn't see any new cpu's other than the one pcmw is offering, which was the same spd as the q9550

    specs:

    q9550
quadro fx 1600m (i know, well i need it for intensive CAD, proven still better for what i'm doing, suggested over the 9800m gt)
    3x 320gb 7200rpm in raid 5
    4gb ram
    wugxa display, need that resolution

and windows xp pro - i know the ram situation, but xp is incredibly faster than vista for rendering, might upgrade to vista64 when it gets better

plus xotic's 3yr parts and labor w/ lcd protection

    YAYYY

    cant wait

I wanted to wait for the 500gb drives to come to it, but I need it in two weeks... that wouldve been nice though, 1tb in raid 5... guess ill settle with 620gb

on that note, any advice on external HDD?? looking for at least 1tb, perhaps more, im not too sure what the best bang for buck is

    thanks for all the help!

    oh yeah - $3700... ugh

Only in the technical sense; sort of like an Aston Martin is a means of commuting. :D

If you have the money, 3700 is worth it for the 9262, enjoy! :)

also planning on upgrading to the quadro fx 3600m when it reaches the 9262and won't cost another 1k... i believe its due out pretty soon actually, with talk of another quadro along the lines of the 9800

i'd assume it's a pretty seamless upgrade process through xoticpc? I won't have time to ship it, justic told me i'd be able to do it myself

Welcome to the family! Great setup. For an external drive, you could probably get the Western Digital 1TB 'Green' drive.

What we've got here is...failure to communicate... ;)

Yup, every morning I walk out of my castle, Jeeves the butler flips a peasant for me, and depending on whether he goes head first or tail first into the moat, I take either the Aston Martin or the Bugatti:

That actually brings up an important point - I've found that if you're going to make a really big, out of the ordinary purchase using your credit card, the best thing to do is to give the company a head's up at least a couple of days before you actually make the purchase so that you don't have to deal with some security/fraud algorithm kicking up a red flag and freezing the transaction.

Also, if you're not going to be shipping to your billing address, make sure you have the actual shipping address listed with the credit card company as an alternate shipping address - if the shipping address is not the same as the billing address, some of the resellers will refuse to ship to an alternate address unless its been registered with the credit card company as an alternate shipping address.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the price for some of the cpus are supposed to come down anywhere from July 20 to August 10. Or at least thats what a bunch of websites are reporting. Thats why I am waiting it out for now. Here is a nice little graphic of whats going on http://www.vr-zone.com/articles/Intel_Upcoming_Desktop_CPU_Price_Cut/5787.html . Also, there is more info about it http://news.softpedia.com/news/Intel-CPU-Price-Cuts-to-Come-on-July-20-89316.shtml . Hopefully the reports are real because I have waited about a month to order for this.

@ Shyster, I had the same problem when I ordered my Sager. It was delayed for 2 days while I played phone tag with visa.

The price cut will only affect desktop processors, not the new Centrino 2 laptops.

in that lists it shows the q9650 - will that arrive the same time as the price cuts?

also @ Justin, if the price cut happens before the system is shipped, can anything be done i.e. a refund for the difference?

I just couldn't wait anymore... and since I'm heading out to LA for school, I do really need it around the 5th of august

We guarantee pricing up until the day it ships. :) If it lowers you will get a refund for the difference. :D

Just wanted to give you all an update. Cnet reports that there were a few price cuts today, but unfortunately the q9550 wasnt one of them. I would assume that the cuts will be sometime this week as it was one of the models that a cut was scheduled for, but I dont know when. http://news.cnet.com/8301-13924_3-9995430-64.html
