first of all i have a i7-2670QM processor. is it overclockable?

I'm playing new vegas, which usually runs top 50-60s on my machine but its HEAVILY modded and it drops down to around 17fps.

it seems the performance doesnt improve even if my OC my gpu and gpu-z says the gpu load sits at around 5-60% maximum, so thats why im wondering if OCing my cpu would help.

or if OCing it is not an option, any other suggestions that could improve performance?

To answer your first question, no, the 2670QM is not unlockable. Only the 2960XM allows it and only on HM67 chipsets.

What GPU do you have? If you've got the 560m, that's probably your bottleneck. The CPU shouldn't be a problem, as it's far more powerful than that game should need.

There is no way to overclock a 2670QM in a Clevo, sorry.

If the CPU is the bottleneck, try upgrading the RAM to HyperX PnP 1866 RAM.

That could give you some gains.. But after all I would recommend upgrading the CPU itself.

i thought the 6990m would run it brilliantly. have you updated the new veags game and also install that mod that gets rid of the clutter in new vegas makes it run faster

I think this is more likely a problem with the mods that you have installed rather than your hardware. With your hardware you should be able to run the game flawlessly. I expect you have a misbehaving mod installed that is spiking your CPU usage needlessly.

Yes as mentioned above there is going to be something wrong with your software and or drivers because I ran this game flat out maxed on my G73JH which housed a 920XM and a 5870M so there is no way your current setup should be struggling.
