what connector does the x8100 use and is it similar to the m18x, can they be swapped?

also what is the best LCD panel on the market for the 18.4" series RGBLED?

you can definitely upgrade the x8100 screen if you can remove the stock panel. The stock M18x panel is decent, much better than the x8100 one but there's also a 90% and a 112% gamut panels available on the market.

so the x8100 and m18x lcd panels can work in either system correct? Presuming you can remove them, they have same connectors?

I'd say yes, but since no one has tried yet, there's no proof. The biggest problem is removing the LCD from behind the E2E cover. On M18x it requires helluva work with a high chance of breaking or scratching the E2E cover and voiding the warranty.

Hello, I have the model before the x8100 the m980nu.

I have looked into replacing the screen and came up with these 3 choices

    Samsung

    LTN184HT01
    90% colour gamut

    LTN184HT02
    112% colour gamut

There are a few of the first one around, here and there from various suppliers, but the second nothing. I found 1 place and they wanted nearly 300 euro. But you can find it second hand. (kind of) The third choice is only 60% colour gamut and not very good, it's the same model used in the acer aspire 8930g. (Same as my wifes laptop.)

Hopes this helps a little. Oooh and replacing the screen on the clevo is pretty simple. Not done it myself but watched. Just patience and be careful of dust between glass and screen.

Well, on the M18x the glass cover is glued to seal the screen inside and there's no way to remove it from the other side.

@Akimox... they don't want you changing screens on the M18x then. Is there no way to gently heat the screen and glass cover to loosen the glue slightly??

I have a pic of the clevo lid without screen but have no idea how to up a picture.

The biggest problem is dust and crap getting in between the glass and screen when replacing.

i have the m980nu and x8100 and i believe the m980nu doesn't support LED monitors, it's a motherboard limitation, i also am interested in buying the very best LED LCD monitor for the x8100, which i intend to swap into a p180hm when it's released.

could you link video of m980nu lcd replacement, since there exact same like x8100. you could use tinypic.com to upload pics.

mox i seen your thread about the LTN184HT02-S01, presuming x8100 and m18x use same connectors, and overall 18.4" lcd's in general, what would you say is the BEST LCD OUT THERE right now? and also is it possible to replace the glass on the x8100 atleast with something that has less reflection? Highest Color reproduction, excellent contrast ratio, wide color gamut, low response time, and quality panel(ips/s-ips)

i want to shell out on the best 18.4"

Apparently, Dell uses a different glue for the M18x it seems to be immune to low heat (up to 150C). I'm about to try mild solvents. Will post the results.

I will have some definite answers for you in a few days after testing the new screens, but for now I think the best 18.4" panel is the 112% gamut one

Nope there isn't but you can try and make your own bezel or glass cover. I guess these E2E lids weren't meant to be disassembled or replaced by end users.

you got the htt02 model right 110% color reproduction, i'm looking on ebay and seeing lot's of different models, like t03 etc etc is there a list or compilation of all 18.4" monitors and there specs to compare?

i want to buy a brand new LED #1 lcd money no question 18.4 this week, LTN184HT02 seems to be the only thing, also is there a certain revision i should be looking for LTN184HT02-s01? or something

however if there is a compilation of all 18.4" that might help, if i'm going to shell out money on a LCD i want to shell out for the best, the only other time i'll intend to upgrade it, is when 120hz becomes available.

Wait another week before pulling the trigger. I should receive a batch in a few days and will do some tests to confirm the quality and color gamut. There is a bunch of suppliers selling variations of this panel with totally different specs. Stay tuned, no rush :)

The biggest problem is that suppliers and eBay sellers in most cases don't even know what exactly they sell, lol. That's why I encourage you to wait till I have the proof that the screen is real. As for the lists, I don't have one. We tried a few different resellers and never got the quality and specs we ordered, heh.

but if the panel has a full serial number, that that is the corresponding panel based of the specifications, whether it actually lives up to it's spec's is another story

@lzykocp1002, I think I may have found a solution to your glass problem.

Have a look at this. I know the price is a bit high, but, when you factor in finding replacement glass, cutting to fit, assembly, time etc.. this might be easier.

    Displaydeckel / Cover / Rahmen Clevo X8100 mySN XMG8.c | eBay

From what Akimox said in his last post he is right. I located a Samsung panel using the part number for the 90% colour gamut. I emailed the supplier and got this response, word for word.

Sorry I'm not sure the part number is just LTN184HT01 and doesn’t say anything more.

The Screen is from a VGN-AW which is a very high spec machine if that helps

As you can see people have no idea what they have got. So not to sound rude but I am waiting for Akimox's results and going from there.

i'm not getting what your saying, that's the same glass currently used in today's x8100 systems? the lcd can be disassembled carefully, as for the lcd panels there's no such thing as people don't know what they have, there are model serial numbers put there by the manufacture, it's the seller that doesn't know what he has, that's why the serial number is what you go by, and mox is only testing 1 lcd as far as i know, there seem to be alot of panels but not much detailed specification which is also another problem.

He's testing to see if it live's up to it's technical specification so how can you say nobody know's what they have.

To know the model number is not enough, there are several versions of the LTN184HT01 panel and most suppliers don't have a clue which version they have. Specs vary greatly between versions.

yea but that's what i mean, like a01 s01 revisions, unless your saying that we can take 20 of the same model lcd panels revisions same, all information on paper nothing changed and there all random?

that's a bit hard to believe,

Ive just received the RGBLED panel and there's no model # label on it. Moreover, it doesn't fit the M18x (different connector). I ordered a S02 revision BTW.

Well, I never said it was made for the x8100 or M18x specifically. I said if the connectors match it could work. Well, it doesn't work in the M18x because it uses a different connector but maybe it can still work in the x8100. If you could make a photo of your connector (the one on the LCD not the mobo) we would be able to determine if it can fit.

As for the revision, I ordered the S02 rev. (that's what the supplier promised to deliver anyway) but there's no way to tell since the panel doesn't even have a label and I don't have any 18.4" system in our lab to test the screen. I can't even test it externally, there's no other laptop in our possession with the required LCD connector.

so it looks like a 120hz 18.4" lcd exists, m18x are starting to get them and few other laptops i think got them, so i'm wondering any model numbers? i definitely want to buy one
