I posted this in the Windows OS forum but didn't get much response. Anyone with a D901C or 9251 have any experience with XP64???
I currently have a license for both OSes and I was wondering what opinions there are on which to install on a new laptop. I've ordered a D901C from Eurocom without an OS and I'm set to receive it soon. My specs are in the sig.
The purpose of this laptop will be mostly for a portable gaming rig but will need driver support for the WLAN and internal webcam. I'm leaning towards installing xp64 since the processor is 64bit and it will be able to use the 4gig but only if it can handle the peripherals. I'm not looking move to Vista until as least SP1 since it's still pretty buggy. So, what do you think would be the best OS to go with? Would dual boot make sense too? Would I be able to use the Vista64 drivers for the WLAN and webcam???
Thanks in advance for the input.

Thanks Gophn!
That post answers most of my driver support questions. What is your opinion, given my setup, of using xp64 over xp32? Is it worth the hassle of setting up in regards to gaming/general system performance?
Thanks for the help! -
if you are going XP, stick with 32-bit... its very optimized (even if you do not use the full 4GB of RAM)
if you want 64-bit, then go Vista... the drivers and support is getting better and better -
In my opinion it probably is, but xp64 did not get the support like xp32 did. So you will have some problems locating some of the drivers. But once that is accomplished you should be good to go. But I would also suggest giving vista64 a try as well. It really isn't plauged with problems. It just people don't like change.

Thanks both of you for your input. I think I'm going to stick with XP32 until I move to Vista and then go 64bit.
Thanks again! -
I'm running Vista 64 and I dig it. It's been perfectly stable. The only problems I've had are:
1. Some USB devices do not have 64-bit driver support. These include my old USB/RS232 dongle. I had to cough up $20 to buy a 64-bit compliant RS232 USB dongle.
2. Some of the temperature monitoring and overclocking tools don't run in Vista 64. This may be due to the driver integrity check, or due to that Kernel protection patch that Gophn mentioned in another post.
All of my engineering tools and games run excellent except for one Java based tool which hasn't been updated for 64-bits yet.
I wouldn't mess with XP-64 for any reason. If you have an application that takes advantage of 64-bit OS, then chances are it will run in Vista 64 anyway.
