If you wouldnt mind taking the bottom cover off and taking a pic or two and posting it id like to see the motherboard and the placement of stuff. TY also can you tell me if its a full mxm card for the gpu or its soldered? Plus the long chip drives are they both pci x4 nvme or sata? i have a micro 2tb 1100 and 2 960 pro 1tb id like to install but debating the 2tb do to the fact i wont need it if i can have to nvme drives.

do you happen to know if in the wlan port a m.2 ssd can be put there? there are half mini cards -
yrekabakery Notebook Virtuoso
Possibly, but I don't know for sure. -
Could any resellers or owners let me know if a half mini ssd will work in the wlan slot. i have a 512gb half mini card id like to put there. please and thanks
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
No, I don't believe so, those slots are 1x PCI-E only too. If it's a sata one you could get a converter to go in the 2.5" bay.

What is the ms response time of the display?
-
yrekabakery Notebook Virtuoso
8-9ms g2g -
Thanks for the quick response! Do you know what the display ID is & manufacturer? To be honest, I don’t know if my eyes can perceive the difference between 3ms & 9ms.

Meaker@Sager Company Representative
You can at higher refresh rates as the pixels will struggle to keep up but all techs have their plus and minus points.

Ideally you'd want the response time be faster than the refresh rate (6.9ms on a 144Hz) to not have noticeable ghosting.raz8020 likes this. -
Do you happen to know can the 144hz display be used at 120hz or are laptop displays locked to whatever they are specced to?
Asking because the PA71 looks like a great fit for me, but unfortunately the 144hz screen is a turn off for me if it cant actually keep up with the refresh rates. -
yrekabakery Notebook Virtuoso
It can be, but there's little reason to do so. -
Fair enough. Still spitballing a 8750 + 1070 build vs. 7700hq + 1060. Unfortunately Obsidian only offers a 75hz panel to go along with that but need to think about it.
-
Which panel? My system came with a 75Hz panel, but overclocks to 100Hz just fine.

Anybody here with this unit can check something for me? I wanna see what a game of PUBG runs like in terms of heat. Stock GPU, undervolted CPU is fine, just set PUBG to ultra preset and don't cap the framerate. I wanna know what on average the CPU holds in terms of clockspeed, if the CPU sits at 90c+, and how does the GPU fare?
Thank you in advance! -
I found a a/e key converter to a pcie one

Can someone with the machine run FS with the new CCC update ?
The guy in this review got 15.5k in graphics, which puts the 1070 here below a 1070MQ 90W.
This seems very abnormal. -
Are you talking about version 1.0.23, provided on 29/05 and is there reason to believe this version stops the throttling?
-
[[[ NOTE - continue discussions on topic in this thread
http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...0-is-the-one-causing-throttling.819744/page-8 ]]]
Version 1.0.34 is what we currently have on our download page and this is the version we sent back to notebookcheck so they could re-evaluate and then commented that the throttling in stress tests/benchmarks that they reported and that others on here (and us) noticed. This does stop the CCC throttling in certain applications which were being affected - including 3DMark, Witcher 3 and others. You still have the EC controlling absolute perfomance and performance levels based on the internal maximum power usage and temperatures etc, but it's no longer being affected by the CCC software.
It's especially important for me to re-itterate that the CCC profile is going to put the bias in different areas. For example, Entertainment mode has been designed to bias system noise and temperatures over performance; Performance mode puts the bias on performance (where you'll have higher fan speeds and thus higher system noise). This is of course purposeful - whether we agree or disagree that this is a good idea or if it's well implimented is a different matter. But if you run Firestrike to check the un-CCC-throttled performance or Witcher 3 or Furmark, you need to run in Performance mode.
I can confirm that this new CCC version specifically addresses the problems discussed - we spent a lot of time looking at the problem here, discussing with Clevo and then working with notebookcheck who gave us the opportunity to have a couple of laptops re-evaluated which had suffered from "bugs" with the older CCC that was installed in the review systems.
Also lots of members on this forum such as @ahmad hendeh have provided really helpful information (this isn't an Oscar's acceptance speech but I can't remember everyone I should thank).LeiEn, Boseph McGee and haheimel like this. -
Ok, so I installed v1.0.34 of CCC, have an unvervolt of the CPU cache&core of -125mV, CPU+GPU repasted (only) with Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut (so no LM) and my PA71 is sitting on the Havit HV-F2068 cooling pad. I could do FS now but snce it's the first time I do this I don't know which additional data (Temps and Freqs of CPU and GPU) to log and how to log them. I have HWmonitor but it only shows me current values. If you guys tell me what to log and how I'm happy to do FS.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Screenshot the charts from MSI afterburner and Intel xtu straight after the run. You can customise their logging period.
-
So, i did FS in CCC Power Mode with Fan Profile: Auto. I scored slightly higher than OP however I don't know how to add an image to thos comment. The scores are:
FS: 15427
Graphics Score: 17721 Physics Score: 16106 Combined Score: 7585
Is this a score that corresponds well to the hardware?vIkInG_w0w likes this. -
I'd love to get a full 99wH battery into this thing and just have it extend into the SATA bay. That'd be ideal.

That would be illegal to ship then.
-
The maximum allowed on planes is 100Whr, not 99Whr.
-
Back from vacation - good to see some updates from Clevo released in the meantime!
Checked with HID who said they've got no word on new BIOS from their supplier. May be a custom BIOS specifically for Defiance machines.
Will do as soon as I get the newest CCC downloaded and installed (only the Asia mirror working right now and it is currently downloading at ~10 kbps/sec. Particularly pathetic on Clevo's behalf, considering they're based in Taiwan which has relatively good bandwidth speeds).
Soon as I have new CCC, yes.raz8020 likes this. -
I'd prefer if you killed CCC and simply used FN + 1 for the test, please. FN + 1 does not require CCC to trigger.raz8020 likes this.

hello im about to buy these body with Intel Core i9-8950HK but im bit warried about temperatures , do You think it can handle it?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
You can tweak it but don't expect the same as the desktop series.
-
I'd highly recommend against buying an i9 in such a thin chassis. More so when it is struggling to even cool the the 8750H. No use buying an i9 unless you can use it to its full potential or atleast 80% of it
On that note check out the Acer Predator Helios 500. Dave2D remarked that currently it was one of the only laptops that sufficiently cooled the i9 while running at a nice 4+GHz -
This is what I'm trying to find out, but I'll pre-emptively say, no. I don't think this unit will handle 4.3GHz 6 core 12 thread with unupgraded cooling from a 4c/8t chip at 3.6GHz, at all.raz8020 likes this.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Personally I would tweak it to get the most out of it but not everyone has the time or inclination to do that.
-
If you have some way to tweak it to get an 8950HK to cool in that unit, by all means. If you need to drop speed, there's no difference between it and an 8750H, which does 3.9GHz already.raz8020 likes this.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
True the 8750h is not like the older chips like the 4700hq which has a big clock deficit.
-
Not many i7-8750H manage run 3.9GHz all cores throughout the benchmarks. PL2 limits will kick in after 28 seconds if not the temp limits already are reached and the clocks start drop (A few manage 56w sustained load limits for 2.5 min then down to 45w). Most have problem passing 1190cb in Cinebench R15. A very few is lucky in the silicon lottery and will reach +-1250cb
[email protected] BGA clocks all 6 cores.Last edited: Jul 26, 2018 -
Will get around to it eventually, but I'd like to do a fresh install of Win10 before I rerun to try and fix the CPU values detection issue, and that may be awhile due to not having any gaps in work at the moment.
-
Oh I know... but the PL1 should be adjustable on a competent unit. I've seen a lot of notebooks come with 60W PL1 lately, just that they all suck in some other way, like the RB15 2018 unit which has designed VRM throttle after a short time of the VRMs heating up where you get 45W PL1 lock (and people on youtube comments telling me it doesn't throttle... LUL)
I simply meant that the only tested unit I've seen was a HID model with LM and fujipoly pads, and it hit 96c in PUBG after... idk, 2 minutes? I couldn't stop it with undervolting or anything. It had a long lag time to cool down after stress was removed which usually is because of poor contact, but I hear other users have no issues. So I asked here since this user said his unit was fine.
I don't know what CPU detection issue you have, but all I need you to do is kill the control center service in windows, run PLEBG with system metrics on for like 10 minutes, then show me pictures and/or a HWiNFO shot. -

Clamping to the rated TDP on the i7 is not technically throttling, it's running to spec.

I can't get the back panel off. Is there a screw underneath the rubber foot by the subwoofer? I've removed 13 screws and it won't separate completely.

I called up Pro-Star and they told me about the screw under the keyboard. Good thing I didn't tug too hard!

Usually if you start using force on a notebook, you are doing something wrong.

Hey,
have you guys tried to repast the cpu and gpu? Because I can't figure out how to loosen the springed screws (with the numbers engraved next to them). -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Try to keep the questions to a single thread, as mentioned a Phillips screwdriver is needed.
-
In case anyone was wondering: I have tried out the Opolar LC06 vacuum cooler on this laptop. I clamped it onto the CPU side exhaust on the left side since that's the region that really needs help. The fit was excellent with the middle-sized shroud. Unfortunately, I could detect very little change in temperature both on auto and full speed modes during load. We're talking maybe 3 degrees Celsius at the very most. I tested it under out-of-the-box conditions; that is to say, no ThrottleStop or other clock speed tweaks or adjustments. It's a bit of a disappointment, but this was only the initial test. Maybe the affect will be greater once a few tweaks are applied.

There is a good amount of airflow, that's not really the limitation.

Thanks alot for the review I will be buying one soon from HIDevolution

Does anyone know if the CPU speed is throttled to something very low like 1.8 Ghz when it's on battery power on this model?
-
Hi, owners.
Can you upload vBios for NVIDIA GTX 1070 from this model ?
