I do not think any of them paints it themselves.

I think they all usually have it [the notebook that a customer orders] shipped to a third-party company that will custom paint it, then ship it back to the vendor for final hardware customizations and tests.

maybe thats why they charge you more.... they are passing the "savings" (*sarcastically saying*) onto the customer.... LOL. :)

the custom paint jobs that XoticPC customers used to get were quite good and professional.
    - which I believe came from LaptopDesignUSA (whom I do not personally recommend)

many pics of those paint jobs in this forum. :)

    like these:

I'm looking at those pictures, and it looks like all they do is spray paint the keyboard side, and paint a rectangle of images on the lid. I want something that not only is included in the warranty of the computer (No peeling ect), and that has a design that covers the entire laptop.

if you look more closely, its painted on the entire chassis... not just the keyboard side and LCD side.

    and it is automotive paint/clearcoat

But again it's like a rectangle on the back
looks like a sticker or a $20 paintjob tbh..
For $4000 I don't want something like that lol

EDIT: ANYONE know how this will preform on cod mw2?

the rectangle is the D900's LCD casing:

So any custom paint will show that rectangle's section... unless if they mod the casing to make it completely flat.

Oh, and did I mention that you can also use a Alienware M7700 (D900T/D900K) casing as well... if you want to really confuse people. ;)

FYI, I retract my statement about LaptopDesign.... beware in your dealings with them (ie. make sure to have them insure the shipping both ways).

    1. I meant a rectangle as in a painted rectangle, that picture you showed me did not even cover the back of the lcd..

And the fragbook DRX (D900f) I'm looking at is this

so you want them to paint the speaker grills as well?

most custom paint jobs will probably not do it... you need to take those grills apart and use different paint usually.

Last year we offered some custom paint jobs. The way the process use to work was the entire machine was painted to the color the customer wanted and then any graphics or logos were done in vinyl. After all of this a clearcoat was applied over everything. As Gophn stated above we use to outsource through a company called Laptop Design that has since folded up and filed for bankruptcy. To make a long story short the owner of the company, Peder Blohm, stiffed our company a considerable amount of money due to mistakes he made with some custom jobs they did for us and filed for bankruptcy to avoid paying for their mistakes.

What was done in the past was no where close to a $20 job. There is allot of labor involved in painting. Expect to pay a considerable amount to get a good job done.

If you really want to save money and get a custom notebook that will insure that it will get a good paint job, I can only recommend a few vendors:
    - www.mtechlaptops.com (sister company to Pro-Star, so they aren't going to fold anytime soon)
    - www.avadirect.com (been around for a long time with a good record)

I've been looking at Avadirect for the past two weeks, and I asked them about the paint job.
@mtechlaptops, I can get the same specs and a paint job included in the FNW for about a $200 difference. I would rather choose a computer manufacturer that not only has a full warranty on the paint job, but also knows how to code a decent html page that doesn't look like someone did it in notepad.

    you sure?

take a pic of it.... post it.... then contact your vendor about it.

the 4th fan is the smallest and is removed first when you remove the bottom panel.

I do not think its a crucial fan after inspecting it since the heatpipes are connected to the two fans adjacent to it... and the small fans is just there for show and gives a little more airflow to the heatpipes... nothing significant.

Laptop temps might be a bit higher without it. Especially on full load.

I was looking at the user's manual, in the page 6-7 Upgrading the System Memory theres a pic (6-5 Bay Cover Removal ) and there are only 3 fans....
maybe the 4 fan aint crucial..

and yes the one missing is the little one...

Like I said... I think its not crucial at all.... since it does not even have its own exhaust vent.

I think it was designed to be put there for extra cooling and make the four fan holes on the bottom panel look to be filled out...
.... since Clevo is using the same bottom panel from the previous D901C.

Some with four fans, on the test machines.

they are all D901F's.... which are black chassis and brushed aluminum colored LCD casing.

Falcon re-paints their systems to make them other colors, like their iconic Blue.

    LOL.

all of the notebooks are D900F's.

same goes for the previous D900C's.... only D901C's were even shipped out.

Clevo just likes to make the designation for aesthetic differences with a single digit change.... good for them, since they are the manufacturer and it would be messy to have different colored notebooks to count in inventory if they all have the same model number.

there is no difference in design or internals.... just the aesthetics of the casing.

you should ignore it if you are a basic consumer because it does not pertain to you.

as for a manufacturer that has to produce those different chassis's... then it matters.

I do not want to get into detail.

But when the D900's were created, Clevo decided to manufacturer two different colored chassis's.

Apparently the Blue colored chassis (ex. D900C) did not test well in their marketing to their importers, so they just pulled that color from their production and just continued to manufacture and ship out the black chassis (D901C).

Its safe to say that all the D900F's are actually D900F... since there were not other colors in production.

Even Clevo's site reflects this with only one entry of the D900F ..... rather than having something like D900F/D901F.

Just because of that.... I will be renaming the title to this thread, since there is only one D900F :D

perhaps they only throw four in on extreme editions. there are pics with four exhaust ports. might be a d900c thou

there are still 4 intake (not exhaust) vents in the D900F.

most notebook do NOT have fans directly over their CPU (that would make the notebook too thick... rather, you will find copper heat pipes that lead to a large heatsink block with a fan to exhaust the heat from it.

that smaller fan seems to do little since the design does not really call for it.

I know they all show 4 intakes.

true but more airflow is always better, even the pics on sager's website show the same slots right below the dvi out, so why not have the fan, they are half the size which is why we see a smaller fan.

He did mention the fan noise hmmm.............

How does the noise under load compare to the GX720/GT725/1722?

Glad to hear it is quieter than the OCZ Whitebook, but that thing was a bazooka under load noise wise.
