I dont get it? So if you play something along the lines of Battlefield bc2 or even 3 then the battery depletes? Or does it stay at for example 70 percent?
-
As I understand it, it just stays at the power level as it is.
Not loading and not depleting. -
I just bought that cooler.Just some quick things I have experienced, well its Zalman quality.Back side is cheap plastic but the front side is aluminum and fits my netbook nicely. Its always cold to the touch when its on.My netbook barely makes any noise while surfing so I can slightly notice the fan noise. It makes a "humm" ish noise. However as I know the Clevo wont be holding back with its own fan,I dont think I will ever notice it.There is no RPM adjuster.Though you lose 1 USB,you get one back through the cooler. On my laps,I can slightly cool my lap too thanks to its fan positioning. The netbook cannot possibly slide from the top of its surface, its a very tight grip. The thing is the male-female USB shipped with it didnt work for me.It gave an error that it was trying to draw too much power and it didnt turn on.I had another male-female connector lying around. The female part fits slightly loosely and the cable is sort of long-ish.I dont know whats wrong with the cable that its shipped with tbh.The male part has a green etiquette on it if it means anything, and is a slightly tighter fit to my PC then other USB inputs.I hope what I am referring as male-female is correct.Male is standard USB,female is quite a tiny bit.
-
Thanks for your comment
As I understand, the cooler pad take air from the bottom so isn't that you will block the air intake by putting it on your lap? For my current Zalma 2000, I put it on the box when I want to use it on bed or on my lap
-
Mmmkay so I don't know if anyone mentioned this anywhere - is it true that this laptop's keyboard is not full size? If so, is it comfortable to type on? I always thought the netbook non full size keyboards are hard to adjust to . . .
-
Great work HTWingNut!
Based on your review i also decided to get one. I ordered express shipping so i should have it in 2-3 days. I got it with the 35W i7-3612QM so ill be able to show the difference from the 45W i7-3610QM or higher quads
.
-
That's one thing I'm really eager to see.
I most probably also go for that cpu. -
Yep, I picked up a DV6Z a few weeks back based on HTWingnut's big thread over on the HP section.
In any event, hopefully the battery life issue is sorted out.
With Optimus, 3.5 hours is kind of unacceptable in this day an age when laptops are regularly pulling 4-5 hours +. I understand this is a 650m but in day to day use, that should be a non-issue since the 650m shouldn't be on at all while surfing web, doing word docs etc. -
orderred mine on the 3rd.... still in phase one order confirmation....... =(
-
The fan is able to breathe on lap becouse its tilted a little bit upwards from the base level.I used to have a Zalman NC1000 which I think is similar to your NC2000.This mini one has a different design to it.
-
Just a side question: if you were able to get an SSD for this, what size? Since there is not room for an SSD and HDD, I'm thinking 128-256. Do you think 128 gig would be sufficient enough for Windows + games (no other media)?
-
Depends.Obviously you cannot make an archive of games. Some online games tend to go up to 10gigs (WoW),some games are 4gigs.But all in all if you say that I have 4-5 games that I play frequently,that,Win7 and even some archive will fit into a 128.I dont know about stocking movies but Im pretty sure you will want music
-
I'm thinking about 256gb. Nowadays, some games are really heavy, such as tera online (35gb
), so if I want to have a few games + my pics and music (another ~30gb) then I don't think 128gb gonna be enough. Also, you have to leave some room for the ssd or its performance will be affected...
-
Oh I see, more reason to get it now
I'm kinda tired of the box lol
-
Ya i was thinking of Tera when they asked about the 128g. With it D3 and a few other games you would be starved for room for sure. I don't have a SSD in my main desktop why i think i might just stick with a 7200 rpm 500g drive since i don't know any better yet anyways hah. If i do splurge i would probably go with the 750g momentus as a hybrid.
-
I dont know if you are alright with it,but beneath the laptop there are rubbery pointy balance things.I dont know if it will distract you though.
Ill take some pictures for you while I am at it
-
Wow, I see now, the hole for air intake is elevated above the lap-contact part so it will work fine on the lap! And the rubber pointy balance is fine with me anw.
Thank you very much
Wish I could +1 rep 2 times in the row

Review is *FINALLY UP AND DONE*: http://forum.notebookreview.com/sag...er-np6110-clevo-w110er-first-look-review.html
I'm sure I will be adding as I go. Hard part is done, now I can play...
-
I know its not directly from Intel but looking at Intel Core i7-3610QM Mobile processor you can see the limit of 3.1Ghz is to be expected if you are fully utilizing all four cores at once. If you limit prime95 to use just a single core I think you will see that it reaches 3.3Ghz. When I get home tonight if no one has found the intel data on speed with different core loadings I'll see what I can locate.
-
Awesome review. Would you be willing to do a benchmark using Arma2 free version. It has a benchmark mode. It is a demanding cpu/gpu game that I would want to run. If possible please run 1080p and 720p at high or very high. Thanks! Arma 2 Official Website is the link.
-
Great stuff! I'm actually a bit impressed with the HD 4000 benchmarks. I often play games with outdated graphics so it should be more than enough for that. HD 3000 is significantly worse though, so that's more motive to get the high-end CPU.
-
Sure. I'll add it to my list.
Note that the HD 3000 in my benchmark is the ULV HD 3000 and the machine only came with a single RAM slot which greatly reduced its performance. -
Hey HTWingNut, quick question... you said that you were only able to scale the cpu to a limit, and, I was wondering if this was a software thing or thats just as low as the cpu can go....
-
Hey HT, the 650m has a boost mode, do you know when it kicks in?
-
So far the lowest multiplier is 12x at 100MHz FSB so for now unless there's a way around it that's as low as you can go. You can't even undervolt which sucks too. User Prema is going to look at the BIOS that I sent to him to see if theres a way to unlock it and make detailed changes.
I noticed that too, but haven't been able to substantiate how it works. I'll have to check into that.
edit: Hmm, I just realized when I run FurMark the clock jumps to 950MHz!!! I'm sure it's a boost like any other thing with a boost these days, based on temperature, and since temperatures are pretty good on this system, it likely will run at that speed. No wonder this thing runs so fast. Curious what the GDDR5 version boosts to. Probably 950MHz too, lol. -
Cool thanks. Note may be easier to use the latest operation arrowhead demo. I think the file is smaller and i read it has higher resolution textures than the free game so it will be more demanding. I think it would be hillarious to see a 11.6" notebook crank out this game at 1080p. Crank the view distance to 10000 meters and see what its made of!

are you going to try any alternative cooling options with this laptop, namely accessories and stuff? maybe there's a way to bring down the heat?
also, i'm not sure if this is even an issue, but how does it run League of Legends? It's not a very graphics intensive game, but it's one of the few that I play, and I just want to know just how good this laptop is at playing it, so I know what I'm in for.
-
HTWingNut i have only one question, have you been having problems with optimus?, i'm thinking of getting the np6165 and since it has the same card other than being gddr5 and having less memory it's kinda the same
, i would like a little bit of input on this subjet, thanks.
-
I think this laptop should be able to play LoL at max setting
Lol and D3 are my only main games right now
-
Do you think the heat will be a problem for long time use? They seem high but it looks like it is within the normal range of operation.
-
fantastic job. Considering you are the only one on the internet doing a review of this laptop, I just wanted to say thanks first.
3 things,
1. can we get a wei score? (useless as it is, I still think about it.)
2. Boot time? (Or did i miss this...)
3. Was your temperature graphs taken after you applied your own thermal compound? or were those stock?
4. Don't suppose you have any thinking as to how it might handle Autodesk Revit? (loving my mba, but running out of 4gb of ram constantly, and a better graphics card for 3d modeling would be great.) -
I believe that the heat will only cause problem when it rises up to and around 90C, below that should be fine I guess.
After applying his thermal compound, which is IC Diamond right? -
Wow Awesome review! I ordered this laptop from LPC-Digital on the 29th.... still on "process" phase. but one thing i would like to know is idle power cunsumption. Thanks
Edit: Nvm you included it. Thanks again..... man i need to update my sig.
. I was also thinking if you can post some GPU overclocks. just so we have an idea on how well that GPU OCs.
-
@windsortheater - I'll give Operation Arrowhead Demo a look
@ bp101 - I did run this on a cooler, which dropped temps a few degrees, but from initial testing, it did nearly as well just by propping it up. I'll be sure to evaluate it more thoroughly. And as robomasterxp stated, LoL should be able to play just fine considering it can run BF3 at 80FPS at 1080p on low or 60 fps at 720p on high. I'll add it to the list and give it a go if I get time.
@ ruly - This my first time with Optimus, and so far no issues that I can tell. Only issue I had which really isn't an issue, is in doing benchmarks for Just Cause 2 I had to disable the GT 650m in the device manager otherwise it would keep using the GT 650m. I think it has to do with a dll, but you can only set .exe files to a specific card if needed.
@sashaforever - Since the only component that is getting hot is the CPU, I'd say everything will be ok. 90C is borderline, but in most cases, games would run below that even for extended periods. If propping up the rear end helps a bit, that may be the way to go.
@office5280 -
(1) WEI Score:
(2) Boot time, didn't test, but can, granted it's entirely based on the SSD/HDD in the system
(3) All testing was done using self applied IC DIamond
(4) I have no experience with Autodesk Revit -
Those Skyrim framerates are amazing! Thanks once again HTWingnut, unfortunately I'm not allowed to give you another rep. By now, this is a no-brainer. The battery life is more than enough.
-
I figured on the Revit. I'm getting by on a HD 3000 now, so anything will be significantly better.
Boot time would be great. I'd be doing a SSD just like you. -
Seems like Intel has doubled there GPU performance but AMD has left them for dead in most general gamaing intergrated performance.
P.S. Thanks for the review! -
I'm gonna get this laptop, but my spec's are lower than yours (i5-2450M and 500GB HDD). But thanks for the review.
I was wondering if my temperature be similar to yours even though it's 35W, it is a 32nm whereas Ivy is 22nm at 45W.
Also, I don't know if this is true, but the lower the graphic setting the less heat it produces as it doesn't have to work as hard? < is that correct? -
Great Review!
May I ask, how sturdy the casing feels?
The last 2 years I got used to my M11x which feels very good in terms of grabbing it and carry it around. I never got the feeling that a part of the casing is giving way when pressing on it somewhere on the outside. -
Please take a look at page 1 where his review is complete now. His experiences in terms of overall build quality are mentioned.
-
I did so already.
But my question is more specific than what is on page 1.
I had a HP laptop before the M11x. I could bend the base part of the laptop. I can't do so on the M11x.
Thats what I mean, hope that clears a little bit what I'm thinking of.
Otherwise I wouldn't ask
-
I think the notebookreview review said the Clevo is all plastic, but still has very little flex. The M11x has a magnesium alloy body, however, so it is probably going to take more punishment.
-
If you look at the internal picks you can see the Clevo looks to have a metal spine inside the plastic shell so it will be stiffer and tougher then your ordinary laptop but will likely not be a stiff as a entire alloy body.
-
I haven't been too rough with it but it feels pretty rugged. Will give it a more thorough look this evening. If I can get ten minutes when my kids are quiet I'll try to do a quick video overview.
-
I just got mine yesterday, just put some games on it, but man its a hot laptop. what cooler do you recommend for this? or do you recommend another solution? I really love this laptop, this is the only major flaw IMHO. that zalman 1500 mini the best option?
-
Thanks again HTWingNut for your response. I'm thinking of picking up one of those passive Antec Coolers to travel with. Seems like it would be easier to travel with.
Can't wait to pick this up! -
Nice, glad to see you got it. I use the Notepal U2, but that Zalman 1500 mini looks like it'd be perfect.
-
I can post a picture of a 10.6" netbook on that cooler if you wonder about how does it scale.
-
Dear Wingnut,
I read your review and you stated the availability of the i7 3612 instead of the normal i7 3610 processor.
I understood it uses 35 instead of 45w and has 200mhz less.
Could you clarify what changes this would have on the system in terms of battery duration and temperature? Is it worth paying 60 EURO extra?
I would be using the machine in class which would mean longer battery life would be a great plus!
Sorry for my English and thank you in advance!
Moobke -
can you disable turboboost in the bios, and, if so, how much does it drop the heat from the cpu? (i'd assume a fair bit on a 45w.)
