Im thinking of getting this machine as well. I bought a i-7 920xm already from ebay and will probably get the barebones from this RJtech. What are the wait times for a straight barebones system.. and I am dying to see the pictures. I didnt realize it was so new.

Seriously? wow that is a long time.
So far, Ive bought a i-7 920xm processor, 8gb 1333mhz ddr3 ram, 1 320 seagate momentus xt hybrid drive. one seagate 500gb 7200 rpm drive to put into it, I guess I better get on the ordering or those parts will be gathering dust.

Just ordered the barebones from RJTech, talked to them, they said they are expecting it next week. If that is even true. I just have the one last harddrive to order and then I will be ready to put it together. eeeeee

It looks like the delay was from a missing backpanel from one of the stocking W880CU's. I wonder where it could have gone? Oh wait, it went onto the bottom of my W870CU! The 70*C barrier on CPU and GPU temps has been broken.

Sager must be having a problem with the back panels for these machines. My initial eX-L 17 from Maingear had a dead pixel on it. I sent it back for a screen replacement, but the one they put in is worse than the first one. It has 5 dead pixels (versus 1 on first) and the display is blurry, straining my eyes and giving me a headache.

Next step is to RMA this for a full refund. If Maingear wants to charge me a restocking fee, I'll dispute it with my CC company.

    Hello
I looking to get the NP8850 soon too
I want to know is it worth getting the SSD drives

    which should i choose: -
    ~ 500GB (w/ 4GB SSD Memory) Seagate XT 7200RPM NCQ Hybrid (Serial-ATA II 300 - 32MB Cache)

    or

    ~ 160GB Intel X25-M Solid State Drive (SSD2 Serial-ATA II) ( + 455 )

If i get the SSD will it give a 50% improvement in performance or more ?

Also whats the best Reseller to get it from ?

    Thanks

Very worried about build quality on these laptops, reading the forums it seems as if they are purchased because they are the only game in town not because of quality. Like to see what a few people that have these in hand think of display quality and build.

i've never owned a sager (at least not yet! ;)), but they are renowned for their solid build quality and screens. those 2 factors should be the lesser or yur worries, if u are going with a sager.
geez, there's been alot of females poppin out of the wood works lately! cool to have knowledgeable females around as well! sorry to hear about yur CPU. have u filed yur dispute yet? i hope everything turns out well and let us know how u like yur new laptop. :D

The quality is very good! Please read over the thread in the link below. It is on the Sager NP8760 - Clevo W870CU, which has the same basic build quality. I have dealt with both models and they feel and look the same with the same display quality too! I think you will like it! :)

but, not being a hardware expert, I need some advice. My approach to a new computer is buy the latest and greatest and use it into the ground.
#1. I would like to use the 1333 mHz RAM but am unclear as to which of the i7 chips I have to use. Some say i7-740QM, some say not. I'm willing to pay for the jump to the 740 but which RAM?
#2. *and* how much can be used ?
#3. Can I mirror RAID my 2 drives (I also have externals) without any issues? Don't need issues :).
#4. I have researched 500 GB, 7200 rpm HDD's and consensus ranked overall speed as follows:
    1. Hitachi 7K500
    2. Samsung Spinpoint HM500JJ
    3.WD Scorpio Black WD5000BEKT
    4.WD Scorpio Blue WD5000BPVT
    Do you agree?
I may be gaming, may be multimedia-ing, some number crunching, but really tired of slo-o-o-w Acer 17".
    Thanks for the help.

When can we expect the review promised a week ago. Really need to see some hands on stuff before i pull the trigger. No reviews anywhere on this model, makes me wonder. I know its been shipping for at least a few weeks now.

I am not positive but I know the extreme chip has to have 1333mhz ram. I don't know however it the other chips can run both. I got the 920xm to run with the Ram. (Which BTW finally showed up via snail mail). I am building it Monday so hopefully I can take some videos of everything.

If you are in a big hurry you might look at the reviews of the Clevo W870CU - Sager NP8760. The build quality is the same, the screen is the same. Really the 2 main differences is the W880CU-NP8850 has USB 3.0 (one port) and it has a different video card the nVidia 480M instead of the ATi 5870. I have worked and played with both and they perform fairly close to one another too. The W880CU-NP8850 does bench higher in Vantage and 3DMark, etc. ;)

with the sales on these been made for 2 - 3 weeks, no reviews anywhere probably means the 480 is a power hungry pig with no real benefits over 5870 hence a 500 dollar flush. Still waiting on a good review promised 2 weeks ago.

I'm now an owner of one also. It arrives Monday. If I can figure out how to get videos and pics hosted....ill upload some of if. I'd figure I can make a webpage or something with Comcast and upload video to YouTube or something and do a review on it. I'll try it when i get it. I'm still not sure if I will overclock anything though.

I got 8gb RAM and a i-7 940xm CPU. Should make for an interesting Stock test....no overclocking review.

That's immoral. :p besides, I have a nice 12mp camera as well as an 8mp on this phone I'm typing on now. The problem is finding a site to host the pictures. Photobucket only allows a certain amount of bandwidth per month, as well as that one Sony hosts......without paying to upgrade that is.

I just can't wait to get this thing. Trying to get routed back home to get there Monday to sign for it when the brown man knocks on my door. Hopefully he's wearing those funny shorts so I can laugh at him...of course, after be hands me my laptop.

    Well, got my 8850 today.

    So far, VERY disappointed.

Fan making horrid noise. But nothing touching it.

Second, no drivers were available for the HDMI. Sager Lists NO drivers to download for anything at all.

Anyone know ways of fixing that? HDMI isn't even given an option in sound controls like my Asus does. HDMI seems to not exist on this.

    Running Windows 7 Ultimate.

An idea how to fix the fan noise? Sounds like something IS touching it, but its not. Sound speeds up when fan does.

The fan is NOT very loud at all on this model. You can take the bottom cover off to check things. Maybe screws were not tightened all the way or something of that nature. Check with your seller or reseller for a replacement of the fan if need be.

You can also get drivers HERE...

    Ya, worthless.

Everytime i click on one of those download links, it says connection failure.

and look at the list. Nothing for an hdmi driver.

I'll get frustrated with this machine and drop it in the garbage can outside before i ever reach the level of returning it for a faulty fan or hdmi.

I'm just really upset that this kind of stuff was not tested before it left the manufacturer, i mean really, most expensive laptop out there (well, just about) and it is sub Par to an Acer. :(

    n/m.

guess i shoula hooked it up to tv before complaining. 8850 automatically switches video feed to TV and Audio when it detects HD external Monitor connect via HDMI, kinda nice. Just Plug and Play.

I thought it had to be like my Asus, and manually select HDMI output and then Select Audio VIA HDMI. Nope!

Still working on fan issue though.

on a side note, I hope i put that thermal paste on right. Feels awefully warm, even just at idle.

    Hmm, interesting.

I took off the bottom cover, and no more thumpig sound from cpu fan area.

Gonna try and fix it by installing some of that double sided padded sticky tape.

See if that dampens the noise.
