How are we looking on the FHD screen availability? Still mid-August before Sager starts shipping them? I want, I want!![]()

Brian at Sager tells me sometime next week.

They are going to be in on Tuesday from what we were updated with by Sager.
Shipments to customers are expected to resume on Wednesday.
-
if i order this with the FHD screen, and have it shipped to Canada, would it definetely arrive before September?
-
But don't they only offer the dual core i7 for this machine? Which has 2 cores (as the i5's) and higher clocks. It also has an L4 cache.
-
Justin@XoticPC Company Representative
I dont see any reason why not.
-
I recommend the i5 540m great power, uses less power than the i7 so a lil extra juice and its a great budget processor.
-
if i get the FHD and i want to lower the resolution to say 1600x900, would their be any noticeable bluriness or blockyness on the desktop and in applications since 1980 just seems too large to me while the other option is just way too small.
-
it really depends on your scrutiny. The FHD screen does have more pixels so icons and text will be smaller. However there are quite a few useful tools to solve this. If small text or icons are your only issue then you can
A)magnify
B) increase text size through windows options
C) increase icon size through windows options
but in the end it would be the worst mistake i can think of to not get the FHD screen. It is great quality, especailly if you couple with bluray player. -
one more question living in Canada, how do i use the warranty exactly, would i have to ship it all the way to Sager for any repairs with the warranty, or is their anyway to get local repairs under the warranty?
-
I think we pay to ship out the computer but it's free return shipping to us.
-
hmm now there is the downside of ordering from a small brand like Sager unfortunetly, i wish there was a way to get local repairs under the warranty like most major brands :/
-
I called RjTech and asked same thing, they said the warranty is in US only, for me it's even worse, cuz I'm buying it in Canada and then taking it to Poland for my wifey's cousin.
us canadians have always got it up the hill with laptops, eh ?
-
This is one of the main reasons I'm so intrigued by the Asus N53 series. If something goes boom in my laptop I want to get it dealt with asap and without hassle.

I just tried 1600x900 on the 1920x1080 screen and as with every LCD, it is blurry when set to a non-native resolution. The lack of sharpness is very obvious. In gaming I didn't notice it as much since I was concentrating on playing the game; I would go as far to say that in games it doesn't matter much.
I would also highly recommend the 1920 screen . . . you definitely don't want to get stuck with 1366x768 on a screen as large as 15.6". As noted there are many tools you can use to increase the font size - the magnifier and also Windows 7's built in DPI settings. Also, you can easily increase font size in a web browser like FireFox (Ctrl+ or Ctrl-). -
Yeah, know what you mean, but lately I have been following Asus with their most known laptops, to me at least, and all the ones I'm interested in, seem to have problems. They all sound great, they all cost pretty good, but they all have some kind of problems.
I was rdy to buy w90 when Strik3r posted they're coming, and it was hell with rma's and driver supprt, then g71 was having overheating issues, now g73 had some launch issues aswell.
So I'm a bit scared going with Asus, and I'm thinking about trying this Sager/Clevo, they seem to have good reputation.
I grabbed the NP7110 for my cousin and I'm probably gonna order NP8760 for myself within next month.
I'd rather try US only warranty on reputable product, then global warranty on product with known issues.
I haven't followed Sager that much, maybe they have many issues aswell, I just haven't seen too many. -
by US only warranty, does that mean in Canada i have no warranty or they just dont offer any repair services in Canada?
-
Still waiting for your review Charles
Yeah, repairing will be problematic too for me for I lived outside US/Canada. I just hope I won't get anything bad with Sager. -
You have the full warranty; you just have to ship the damn thing out across the border if it needs repairs.
-
I finally pulled the trigger earlier tonight.
-
Congrats! As I see more people ordering I'm getting jealous and wants mine. I wants my precious.
-
if i wer to need a repair and just decided to take it to some local repair shop, would that void my warranty?
-
Shane@DARK. Company Representative
It wouldn't technically void your warranty, but if they mess anything up you're out of luck. -
do vendors such as XoticPC or Dark offer any sort of warranty advantage considering that i live in Canada over Sager, or is it the same deal?
-
So I'm 99% decided on purchasing this laptop.
However I am on a fairly fixed budget. I plan getting the stock build but paying for the screen upgrade and possibly the battery upgrade. I would like to keep it all under 900 for the laptop and shipping.
Having never bought a clevo/sager before I thought I'd reach to the community. I've been reading up alot on these machines and everyone seems to say that they are well built and long lasting and that they are worth the money. So far I'd said it all looks good.
However that brings me to my questions:
1. Besides the general knowledge floating around the forums, is there anything else I need to know about what I should expect from a clevo/sager machine and clevo/sager/whatever-store-I-buy-from customer service?
2. I have perused a few sager resellers, but I'd appreciate recommendations/short testimonials from people who have bought sagers from different vendors. (if anyone knows of a vendor that has deals on shipping, I would appreciate the info)
Anyways, hello to the Sager forums! NBR is such a pleasure to use! -

I can't speak for other retailers, but from us you still have to pay shipping. However, we do offer cross-shipping of parts so that if, say, your hard drive fails you don't have to pay to ship the whole laptop back to us. You just need to send out the hard drive and we'll send you a new one. -
sorry if this has been answered, but ur parts warranty is replacements such as the Hard Drive, and what exactly is the labour warranty?
-
Mine is supposed to arrive tomorrow. I'll let people know how it games with Bad Company 2/Just Cause 2 and the like. I'm also planning on Crysis Benchmarking it to see what happens. Might do some PCMark as well. We'll see. I basically went all out cause this is supposed to last me for four years. Specs below:
- Display: 15.6” FHD 16:9 LED Backlit Wide screen (1920x1080) Super Clear Glare Type Screen
- Processor: Intel® Core™ i7-620M, 2.66-3.33GHz, (4MB L3 cache)
- Thermal Compound: - IC Diamond Thermal Compound - CPU + GPU
- Graphics Video Card: nVidia GT 330M 1024MB PCI-Express GDDR3 DX10 with Optimus™ Technology
- Ram: ~ 6,144MB DDR3 1066MHz Dual Channel Memory (2 SODIMMS) (Requires 64-Bit to utilize 4GB+)~
- Optical Drive: ~ 6X Blue-Ray Burner/Reader / 8X DVDRW Super Multi Combo Drive
- Primary Hard Drive: ~ 500GB (w/ 4GB SSD Memory) Seagate XT 7200RPM NCQ Hybrid (Serial-ATA II 300 - 32MB Cache)
- Wireless Network: Intel® Ultimate-N 6300
I think I'm most interested to see how well the Hybrid drive works. I'm also planning on using PassMark's various software tools to do a full burn-in. Can anyone suggest tools for burn-in that might be better? Thanks -

I chose the Intel 6200 Wireless unit but everyone else got the 6300! Should I upgrade?
@gsparx
Do you play Left 4 Dead 2? I'd like to know how it runs at highest settings. -
If you can, go for the 6300. It has 3 antennas so it will give better signal quality. And I don't play L4D 2 at all. Are there any comparable steam games that I could compare to?
-
IKilledYourHamster Notebook Evangelist
I was thinking the third antenna won't be utilized at the moment. Will it really help a lot? I guess it won't hurt to future-proof but I'm not sure if my school will ever upgrade.
Do you play any Source games like Half Life 2, Counter Strike: Source, or Team Fortress 2?
Besides Left 4 Dead 2, how about Aion? -
Ya, future proofing is the biggest thing for me with this machine. And I play CSS and TF2, although I havent for awhile. I'll load them up and see how they play once it comes.

The review is about complete, I will be submitting it today and hopefully it will be posted within the next week.
The NP8850 review will be posted first though.
Wow, that's a high-end config.
What I usually do with new systems is download and burn memtest86+ to a CD:
Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool
Boot from it and let it run overnight. It will check your memory for errors and also stress the CPU.
For stress testing from Windows, I like 3DMark06. Playing newer 3D games is also a good burn-in test. -
few questions....
1) has anyone OC'd the 330m GPU yet? If so what program did you use or what program would be easiest for me a first time OC'er to use? Im getting 60fps in SC2 ddropping down to 30-40 in big fights and 15-20 with mothership. Hoping to bump em up just a little to smooth things out.
2) for Justin, if i ordered the NP5125 and i didnt order extended battery at time of purchase can i still order it for half off in the coming weeks?
3) I know someone told me about the free antivirus that doesnt suck up cpu, it was Avast correct? -
Shane@DARK. Company Representative
The parts warranty covers anything that fails on the computer, so if your hard drive, graphics card, screen, or anything else that's hardware dies then you're covered. The labor warranty covers our costs to pay employees to fix your computer. With our base warranty (1 year parts, 3 years labor) both parts and labor are covered for the first year. For the second and third years you can still send the computer back to us for service, however we'll only cover labor and you will have to pay for parts at cost. -
I asked this same question and Joseph from Xotic told me that the battery needed to be placed on the same order as the laptop in order to get the 50% discount.
-
o, by return shipping, do u mean like for me to ship it to you, or do you just mean you will ship it back to me at no cost? or is it both ways is no cost?
-
Powermizer or Riva Tuner should be your friends.
-
Justin@XoticPC Company Representative
You ship it in and we cover it back to you at no cost.
For the question above on the battery, as long as you show proof of purchase of the 5125, you can purchase the battery anytime before the end of the year at the 1/2 off Price.

Hey guys - since a lot of us in this thread are now NP5125 owners or soon-to-be, I made this thread the owner's lounge.
-
Awesome, Charles. Can't wait to get mine ahold next weekend (hopefully). Gotta deal with shipping through Ocean.
-
it seems strange, but on XoticPC wen looking at the warranty, thers no option to have 24/7 XoticPC telephone support alongside the 3 year warranty, you only get the option for Sager support, is that an oversight or was that done on purpose
-
Justin, sent ya an e-mail, I'm havin problems ordering from Rjtech

Hey guys I just got in an 80GB x-25m so I'll be posting some benchmarks with it hopefully within the next 24 hours (as we're in the middle of moving laptop production to a satellite office in Hamden, CT).
-
Just a heads up. Mine came in today and I'm currently loading Windows 7. Read through the manual and it said that the CPU is not user serviceable. Hm
And thanks for the tip on Memtest86. Since it's 86 (i'm assuming that means x86) will this only work with 4gb of ram? -
Justin@XoticPC Company Representative
Already fired you off a reply
We have it on our 3 Year Warranty, just not with the official "Sager" Warranties. If you would like it added to a Sager Warranty we could certainly arrange it for you. Please email or PM and I can review any further details or questions. -
K, I might reorder mine due to uncofirmed paypal address.
What is the difference between those ?
Built-in 802.11 Wireless B/G/N - Stock Wireless Card
Intel® Advanced-N 6200 - 802.11A/B/G/N Wireless LAN Module ( + 20 )
Intel® Ultimate-N 6300 - 802.11A/B/G/N Wireless LAN Module ( + 35 ) -
6200 = 2 antennae
6300 = 3 antennae
I'm going 6300 since its potential is 450 Mbps VS. 300 Mbps with the 6200. After having 2 laptops with the built-in garbage, I'll gladly spend a little more for a quality card with a fast, stable connection. -
So I thought this machine supported multitouch. But it doesnt work at all for me. Any ideas? Do I need to install drivers for it?
