My webcam is horrible - has anyone played around with installing alternate drivers for the BisonCam that give better results than the stock driver?
Other than that, I'll go out and spring for a real webcam.

Drivers probably won't make a big difference. The stock camera is only passable quality. A lot of other members have recommended USB cameras if you don't find the quality to be high enough. This is the case with a lot of models as they have the same/similar cameras. -
Thanks for the feedback. It's amazing to me that the webcam quality is so horrid. I've seen $300 laptops with MUCH MUCH better webcam video than my NP8760. I'm using the stock driver on sager.com.

Hello!
Is it available to install into Clevo P150HM Seagate Constellation.2 ST91000640NS?
Thx for answer
-
J.P.@XoticPC Company Representative
Looks like that drive is slightly "taller" than your traditional laptop hard drive. I saw some one mentioned in the feedback section from newegg that the drive does not fit most laptops.
-
Yes, and it is the reason of my question. But a friend of mine was able to use it in his HP 4720s - so I wonder if I can do the same with my P150HM...
Does anybody know? -
J.P.@XoticPC Company Representative
Just double-checked with Sager tech support. The z-height on that model is 15mm, the P150HM you have only supports internal drives of 9.5mm z-height, so it won't work.
Also, just a heads up, you're posting in the NP8760 Clevo W870CU owners forum, you may want to posts questions in the appropriate Sager NP8150 Clevo P150HM thread from here on out.

Thx for answer and sorry for wrong topic

Just got one of these nice laptops. 5870m, I tried to download the latest drivers from ATI but they wont finish install--they BSOD during the install. DO I need to download drivers from Sager direct? Thanks
-
Anthony@MALIBAL Company Representative
That would probably be the best place to start, though a BSOD may not be driver related. Here's a link to the latest official drivers:

Hey guys, this is probably a dumb question but I don't remember it. Does my Sager NP8760 have a secondary hard drive bay? If so is it located directly underneath the battery or is it somewhere more difficult to get to?
I would like to get me a second harddrive, but I'm not going to bother until I know there is a second bay for it. I bought my laptop at the beginning of the year and I don't remember if my model comes with one.
Thanks for any replies! -
Hey all,
Looking to upgrade some of my NP8760's components - any recommendations on compatible RAM and a graphics card? I remember when buying this laptop that the graphics card is replaceable, just not sure how to approach it!
Is this RAM compatible? Newegg.com - Kingston HyperX 8GB (2 x 4GB) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1866 HyperX Plug n Play Laptop Memory Model KHX1866C11S3P1K2/8G
Here are my current specs:
i7-820QM, Radeon HD 5870, 4GB Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM 1333MHz - 2 X 2GB
Thank you! Any help much appreciated. -
I am sorry tht my post is not related to your new Clevo pc..I am in desperation trying to find a clevo motherboard for a model m59ke. I have looked all over for it and can not find it anywhere and clevo.com is no help at all. Can anyone tell me where to find this at. I would so appreciate not to see a 3kk pc sitting doing nothing ; Please email me [email protected] for i fear i will never find this post again ty
dipuch -
Yes, your laptop does have a secondary HDD bay. It should be located underneath the large panel along with your CPU and GPU. Your primary HDD should be located underneath your battery tray.
-
I would contact Sager and ask if you can purchase a new card to fit in that rig. Give them your S/N and they'll tell you exactly what cards are compatible. Heck, they might have a card to sell you.
As for the memory... Why 1866? 1866MHz is just overclocked 1600, it comes with all the instability, with only a 5% performance gain.
2X 1600MHz 4GB DIMMS(+5-10% performance over 1333) will give you duel channel performance, (+5%) save you a headache, and 50-60 bucks. -
I still have no idea why my NP8760 is bulging under the display to the point where I can't open it without popping off the plastic piece under it. Disapointing for a 2400.00 laptop to warp like this.
-
The bottom front of my LCD screen also hit that raised plastic cover from the day that I received it. I sent it back to Sager under warranty and they had to replace the entire chassis.
My battery also outgassed, causing it to buldge out as well. Sager also replaced that under their 1 year battery warranty. -
Have you tried contacting your reseller about this and asked about getting an RMA to get it fixed correctly?
I can't imagine that being anything normal with any laptop. -
Thanks for the feedback turbocycle, annd Heihachi.
I'm going to take your advise and contact the retailer to see what they say.
I'll post back whenI get an answer. -
Just for information purposes, I had the exact same problem as you did. I was just getting random TDR crashes (driver recovered error). Tried a lot of different drivers. It seemed to work better nowadays with the latest bf 3 drivers. Funny enough some games just cause it after a certain time and some games can comeback from the crash but some cannot. I also made a makeshift laptop cooler which might have helped. I am on a 285m. Regardless I thought it was thermal paste but since you replaced it, I guess we just got the bad apples in the basket.
-
guys, my battery has been showing a "baloon effect" is this dangerous? do I have to replace it?
-
If by "balloon effect" you mean it is bulging? Yes, it is dangerous and I would highly recommend getting a new battery. You could still safely operate your laptop with the battery removed and just running off of the AC adapter.
-
Hi guys,
I own the Clevo W870CU laptop for more than a year now.
I play games very seldomly, so the card is not under stress, the temperature is always OK, but I have frequent gr. card driver crashes with error message: driver stopped working and tried to resume.
I went through several driver updates up to the very latest v. 295.73 and Windows re-installs, but still have frequent gr. card driver crashes of my Nvidia GeForce GTX 460M. Is this a bad card, which needs to be replaced? -
Anthony@MALIBAL Company Representative
It's possible it's a bad card. Have you monitored temperatures at all? Are you seeing crashes with everything you do, or only certain games? If it's the latter, it may just be a specific game incompatibility. -
Irrelevant with game play at all, the driver even crashes if a few windows open, after notebook sits there a while doing nothing and I move a cursor!
My Clevo W870CU is working with battery removed and it is sitting on top of spinning Zalman laptop cooler, and temps are always close to 50C/120F with voltage of 0.95V.
I guess I have approx. one crash a week, sometimes there are several crashes a day. -
The last thing you could try is a complete wipe and re-installation of your OS and drivers.
nVidia just released their latest laptop drivers today http://forum.notebookreview.com/sager-clevo/651207-whql-nvidia-verde-296-10-notebook-drivers.html#post8376332
If that fails to work, I would suggest getting an RMA and getting it sent in for repairs. -
Thanks for your reply, Heihachi_1337.
My manufacturer suggests running a bunch of tests including the "Heaven DX11 Benchmark 3.0" and some others.
Here is his latest email to me:
"Those update drivers in nVidia website are not always suitable for your
system, you can try it but it is not recommended. It will get you troubles
sometimes.
Please try the one from Clevo's website, which is tested and we know it is
working with your system.
If you can run the bench mark program then your video card should be fine.
Also check you memory, you can download Prime95 from
Free Software - GIMPS , and run it for one hour and see if there
is any error.
And test your hard drive by right click on the C: drive icon, property and
choose tool, to check it.
So, 1. use the driver from Clevo website, 2. test memory, 3. test hard
drive.
Your problem should be related to one of them.
By the way, what is your BIOS version? You can check it by pressing F2 key
right after you power up your system, on the first page in the BIOS setup
screen, you should see the BIOS version."
I don't know how much sense all this has. I ran the "Heaven DX11 Benchmark 3.0" so far and it came out just fine. -
Well, that is quite the gamut of tests to run but if they recommend those tests I would give them a try.
For your RAM testing, use memtest86 which can be found here:
Memtest86 - Download Page
It will be an ISO image, so make sure you have the proper software to burn it to a disk, and make sure when burning to use the slowest burn speed allowable by your CD/DVD burner.
For your HDD testing, if you still have your OS installed, check your drive model in the Device Manager to find out what brand you have. If it starts with ST that would be Seagate, WD is Western Digital those are the two major brands but if you are unsure, post your model here or Google search it to find out if it is another brand such as Hitatchi or otherwise. Most hard drives will have a specific tool used for testing.
Another test you could try on your GPU is FurMark if you haven't already done so. FurMark 1.9.2 Released (GPU Stress Test Utility, OpenGL Benchmark) - 3D Tech News and Pixel Hacking - Geeks3D.com
Regarding the drivers, some folks are paranoid about the latest driver releases and it is up to user discretion to decide what is the best. Using the ones included on your Drivers & Utilities CD or the ones from the Clevo website may work, but the latest WHQL drivers are recommended for the latest games to increase performance. For stability sake and just to see if your system hardware is at least still functional, give the default drivers a shot and if there are no problems, bump up to the latest drivers. If you are running nVidia (I believe you were, their latest drivers should be 296.1, just make sure to check their list to confirm your GPU is supported) and if you are running AMD/ATI Radeon, theirs should be 12.2 if I am not mistaken. -
Hi Folks,
Has anyone tried to upgrade their NP8760 to more than 8 Gigs of RAM?
I'm running virtual machines on my laptop and am completely out of RAM.
Would have thought 8 gig is plenty but turns out it is not?
-
Hi there, has any of you upgraded to 6970m? I just recently did this, everything works fine except my temps are hihg, around 57-58 degrees celsius on idle! anyone have this problem?
-
What are you temps under load typical loads? That is where it should really matter the most. So long as you aren't closing in on 100-110C you should be good to go.
Also, how difficult was your upgrade? Pics?
Did you have to upgrade your AC adapter and the heatsink at all? -
I did the heatsink mod that was posted on this thread http://forum.notebookreview.com/sag...evo-w860cu-w870cu-sager-np8690-np8760-15.html
Scroll down in the middle, it's the one by mike57ou. I did the exact same heatsink mod that he did. I also have a targus 180w power supply. I am downloading furmark right now, trying to see if my gpu is going to reach 100c when stressing it. I am also using a laptop cooler which is cooler master notepal x2 -
My temps after about 10 min of furmark
I'm idling at around 59 degrees celsius. -
what is GPU temp 2 and 3?
-
I believe you are stuck with the 8GB of RAM being the limit, from all of the specifications I have checked.
-
I have no clue, but those are darn close to 100 degree celsius. anyone know what they are?
-
I just did a 15 min burn test, seems to top off at 80 degree celsius. I am now back to idling to 58-59 degrees. should I be worried about this? I am using Arctic Silver 5 maybe I should get a better thermal compound or a liquid metal cooling pad....
-
A burn test using what program?
And really, if it is peaking at 80C, I really wouldn't worry about it at all. That is perfectly fine.
Again, I would be more concerned if it was reaching 100+C, THAT would be an issue. -
I used furmark for 15 min. it topped off at 80 degrees. I posted a pic a few posts above. Also, a lot of people seem to undervolt their card to 1v compare to stock 1.100v which is what I am currently running. I will undervolt my card later to see how it reacts. I might also get some IC7 as I am currently using AS5 as a thermal compound.
-
If you are getting 80C on Furmark, that is a great temperature.
Also, I have ran both AS5 and ICD and I don't have issues with either one.
Why all the fuss on 80C for temps in Furmark? We have newer laptops that are running hotter than that in Furmark.
Please keep in mind, Furmark is the hardest test you can run on a GPU. Your games won't touch that kind of stress really.
Bottom line, don't stress on your temps and enjoy it now. If you really feel the need, get a laptop cooler for it but with those temps, you shouldn't need one.
-
I also failed to mention that I am using a cooler master notepal x2 as a laptop cooler. regardless, now I can rest easy. I was just worried because I was idling at 57 degrees.
-
Just wanted to let you guys know that I ordered an Alienware M18x and upgraded it to 32 GB memory. I gave my NP8760 to my son. But, and this is very interesting... I added two of my 8 GB dimms to the NP8760 and it recognized it. So you can upgrade it to 16 GB of RAM. I know there is no documented support for the additional memory but I can say for sure that the upgrade works as I'm using the NP8760 right now to update this thread.
-
As an FYI the below memory is what I used for the upgrade.
I got it from Newegg
Crucial 16GB (2 x 8G) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) Laptop Memory Model CT2KIT102464BF1339 -
Good info avpx1!

Hi,
I would like to configure/change fans speed of my laptop Clevo W870CU (i7-740QM) : indeed, the speed of the fans (CPU ? GPU ?) often changes from "low to medium" and "medium to low", even when I only use Firefox for example (no games)...
I would like the speed keep "low".
Temperature of the CPU is near 43°C and for GPU (nvidia GTX 460M) it's near 50 °C.
Thanks for your help...this noise is really frustrating ! -
I just bought an AC adapter for my Sager 8760.
The output on the new one is a little diffrent than the output on the original.
Original 19V-6.3A
New one 19V-7.9A
Is this safe to use?
Thanks.
