That's interesting. Either they didn't get a lot in or there are a lot more buying the system than I thought would :D

I think the 7652 is a excellent mid range laptop for those who cant or don't want to fork over the cash for the other models. I'd bet there is more demand for it than they thought. Especially taking the poor economy into consideration at least here in the States. Though one could argue if money was that tight, Sager would not be on the shopping list. More probable to get a Sunday Special, Best Buy Acer or something along those lines.
I don't know. Its all speculation.

I've been kicking around a laptop purchase for a year now. I can wait for a little longer. See what graphics they offer after CeBit.

Also from what I've seen this is the cheapest i5 15" laptop running a resolution higher than 1366x768 with discrete graphics.

Excellent point. I like the 15" for mobility but no desire to go near 1366x768. I plan to do more than watch videos on the thing.

I got the laptop today. Had a bit of time to play with it. Really impressed with the case, very sturdy. The screen hinges are good. No creaking. The keyboard doesnt flex too much. There's no bending on the lcd from the backpanel.

The loudness of the speakers is about the same as my old one. A bit dissapointing. The webcam is decent quality. The built in mic doesnt pick up any echo from the speakers so its works good for skyping.

The touchpad has nice little bumps in it that I feel really adds a quality to its use. There's a bit of heat right beside the touchpad. Doesnt seem like it'll be an issue.

Had a bit of an issue when first installing windows 7. I wanted to partition, but when I tried to format the partitions the drivers weren't available, so I had to copy them from the driver disc to usb stick, then plug it in during the windows 7 install.

    Looks good!
How does that chicklet keyboard feel when typing?
Do the fans run all the time? Perhaps during install they would but I'm curious how much they run while doing normal stuff in windows like typing in Word etc. and how loud they are.

I don't understand what drivers were required to format the hdd?
Did the Win7 install NOT recognize the drive??

If you rest your hands on the front of the laptop, does it have any tendency to tilt forward? I was curious based on the first picture showing the slight taper up on the bottom where the palmrest is.

The palmrest heat may be an interesting tidbit as well if it keeps it slightly warm. Did you get any Arctic 5 or IC thermal compound or did you stick with the traditional Sager compound?

Thanks for the great impressions, I posted a link them on the front page.

Did you get your notebook with an operating system or without? What drivers was it asking for when you did the partition, the SATA drivers?

Hey guys, my notebook arrived about 15 minutes ago. Unfortunately I am at work so I don't have a lot of time to mess around with it. I am at lunch and installing Wndows 7 64-bit right now. I will give some impressions tonight.

Until then, I have taken the liberty of taking some photos of the unboxing process. I don't have time to rename them right now and there may be some duplicates but here you go:

Be nice if someone could run CPU-Z and screen print the CPU and Mainboard tabs. Just curious on spec details and such.

@Karnaugh49: The keyboard is a bit noisy, but I really like the feel of it. the springyness of the keys is nice. I'll have to pay more attention to the fan as im doing things. Right now it is running constantly with just firefox, skype, and msn, but I havent restarted for 24 hours.

@phaet2112: The laptop does not tilt forward at all. I have the Arctic 5 thermal compound. I left the computer running all day, without anyone using it and theres not any heat right now coming out of that spot.

@afitzwater: I got it without the operating system. It actually wasn't the partitioning but rather it wouldnt let me install windows without the drivers being loaded or something. I'll try to find out more from the person who helped me.

Here are some of my initial thoughts:

    Windows Install

I encountered no problems installing Windows 7 64-bit. I did not partition so I did not have a driver issue. The install took about 10 minutes.

    Drivers

Some of the drivers did not appear to be on the disc that comes with the system. I had to download the WLAN driver and fingerprint scanner from Sager's website. I still have some "Simple PCI Communications" device that doesn't have a driver. I am not sure what it goes to. It's not the modem.

    Touchpad

It has a pebble surface, which is nice for the first 10 minutes of use. Now my fingertip feels numb after too much usage. It also seems to be a little spastic, sometimes having the multi-gesture functionality kicking in when I don't want it to.

    Keyboard

I've used better (and worse). The keys seem louder than I had hoped and my "[" key is clacky. I don't notice any flex. I love how they are spaced though as it reflects a desktop keyboard more.

    Display Hinge

Since there is no security latch to keep the display from opening, I wish it had a little more resistance. When you start to close it, if it gets to about 20-25 degrees it just falls to the base. When it's up there is no problem with stability.

    Display

The screen looks beautiful. It's very bright and I do not apear to have any dead pixels. Viewing angles are above average with looking from the top down being worse than the left or right side.

    Build Quality

Overall it seems sturdy and not cheap. The hinge not having enough resistance is my biggest complaint. One minor complaint though is the edge on the base in front of the touch pad. It's a sharp 90 degree angle. If you rest your wrist on the edge you will eventually feel it so a curved edge would have been nice.

    Noise & Heat

The fan seems to be on constant though there may be able to turn it off when not gaming. It's not terribly loud but its noticable. As for heat, the right of the touch pad seems to get the warmest but nothing too uncomfortable.

    Other

I seem to have a slight rattle or grinding sound. I am not sure yet if it is a fan or the hard drive though I am guessing the drive. I will have to dig deeper to find out. I will be taking the unit apart over the weekend.

I will be taking some video in the next couple of days to try and give a better impression of the keyboard sound and fan sound. Off to try some gaming on it!

I played World of Warcraft for an hour just now. I was able to play in native resolution (1366x768), with all settings at high and shadows at medium. I got 60 fps indoors, 30 fps outdoors, and 20 fps in Dalaran. I got 60 fps in 5 man dungeons unless the dungeon went outside, then 30 fps.

Here are my temps before and after playing for an hour. This is with Sager Thermal Compound.

    That's me.
Might also be that the Windows 7 we used came from MSDNAA.
There might be more drivers on the retail Win7 (released in October) than the MSDNAA version (released in August).

Our WLAN drivers came on a separate disc for some reason.

Hey, Im looking to buy my first notebook. I've done some research and the pro star W765CUH seems to have better specs than others at the same price. I'm looking to stay below a 1000 dollars. Im a gamer, but not hardcore. Will this computer cut it for me?

Can you tell me some of the games you are wanting to play? I will look for demos and see how they run.

The 4570 ran World of Warcraft amazingly well, as stated in my previous post. Infact, what is shown at notebookcheck for the performance was WAY off so I am taking what that site says with a grain of salt at the moment.

I installed the Age of Empires III: The Asian Dynasties demo and didn't have any problems running it at native resolution of 1366x768 and all details on high/very high. I'll be taking some video of it over the weekend.

I did my first battery test today. It was general usage which consisted of internet surfing, watching Youtube, listening to MP3's and some web programming (PHP/MySQL). WiFi enabled, of course.

    Power Setting: Balance
Screen Brightness: 50% (I could have gone lower and been comfortable)
    Duration: 2 hrs

It was exactly 2 hrs when I received a notice with 6% battery life and to plug in. At 10% the LCD dimmed and could not be made brighter.

It's definitely not bad. The unusual thing is the core i5-520m with the 1600x900 option for under $830. The build quality is good and the Clevo builds are known to last. My major complaints (if you can call them that) with the model are the non-upgrade options for the battery and video card. I would have liked to see a 9-cell option for extra runtime and a 4650 option for the video card.

Torchlight is another nice game to demo (made by the devs who did Diablo)...
2h isn't very long- I was hoping for longer, especially with the i5 instead of the i7, although it may be more of the vid card and wifi draining it.

Thanks for all the information so far

I'll test out Torchlight. I actually bought it but haven't played it much since there is no multiplayer.

Does anyone know what I should be looking for or where I should be looking to see if I can change from the 4570 to integrated graphics?

Also, I am uploading video now. Unfortunately Youtube keeps erroring out on the upload so I'll have to upload it to my webserver.

Per Clevo with the 6-cell (48.84WH) battery option that Sager is offering up the max run-time is 2 hours and 30 minutes....granted they didn't list what they were or were not doing to accomplish this. If the 9-cell option were available max run-time would be around 3 hours and 45 minutes.

Also worth note Mercer Notebooks ( http://www.mecer.co.za) is also running there own variant of the Clevo build as well.

I, too, am interested in seeing how this notebook will run Torchlight. (perhaps someone with a 16x9 resolution screen can chime in also)

Also, has anyone tried running Dragon Age on this machine? That's another game I'd want to play. And if this laptop can run Diablo 3 on all high settings, I think I'm sold.

Torchlight ran perfect with maxed details on 1366x768. I had some screen tearing so I turned on Vsync and all was well. This card is handling things a lot better than I thought it would. I need to try a more visually demading game though.

I just got done doing 4 hours worth of 10 man raids in WoW. I am posting a screenshot on the highest temp levels below:

    http://www.intravising.com/NP7652/temps-2.png

Just a note on the heat:

Since the air is being pushed out on the left of the notebook I noticed a slight emission of heat on the left handof the keyboard. Since I use WSAD keys to move my characters and top number row for spells I couldnt help but notice it. The left and right sides of the touch pad have only gotten luke warm at most so I am happy about that.

Also, does anyone know of any screen recording software that is better than fraps?

Have you also used any relatively intensive programs like photoshop? How about some static multitasking by have Firefox up with 10+ tabs open, Word and Excel both open, and on top of all that, messing around on photoshop?

Can this laptop handle a load like that?

The laptop can surely handle all that stuff. Perhaps Photoshop will suck processor cycles while rendering but aside from that the biggest issue will come down to ram. The more the merrier. Most new, customized laps and desks are 4GB or more. Enough for today's apps.
I will say I have seen Firefox suck about 2+GB of ram in the past. Usually happens when you leave multiple windows open for days at a time. This is not a limitation of the machine, rather software problem. I think Flash causes allot of browser grief.

Judging from the basic specs on this machine there should be no concern about multitasking. My only issue was gaming. What can the vid card handle but thanks to afitzwater we are getting a good idea of just how well the graphics function. Now if we could only get DirectX11 support. All in good time, I hope.

Thanks for all the testing and screenshots.

That was a good video overview. I too dislike the latest fad of no hinge to lock the screen down in place.
