    I think it's time this thread be created since most orders start shipping today (Including mine XD). It will be easier to find reviews and info on this model than have several threads. All W860CU users can post here and questions can be answered here.

    Heres a few things we can respond to:

    • What was your first impression when you opened that box?
    • What was your First download/installed program?
    • Did you notice any problems?
    • Likes/Dislikes
    • System Specs
    • Is it everything you hoped it would be?
    • Pics if any

    I'm sure it wont be too long before we get some 3dmark06/vantage scores and benchmarks, System, CPU, and GPU Temps. Include the resolution and screen quality as well.

    Nice. I woke up this morning and thought about making this topic, but I decided to leave it to someone who will soon be an owner. I'm probably many months away from having one, but I need it soooo badly. It hurts mang.

    EDIT: the title need the NP8690 also, to avoid confusion for Sager buyers.

    I considered one of these, but I just can't get into the 15.6" screen. Every time I look at my M4400, I realize I love 17"+ screens. :(

    Hey guys, my 8690 arrived today from sager and I wanted know what benchmarks I should run? This is the first pc i've owned in over ten years, as my desktop is a mac pro, so i've been out of the game for while. I went with the 8690 mostly for gaming but since i've been on mac for a while I don't have much software other then wow and age of empires III (i know it's dated). I'm looking to run some benchmarks later tonight or tomorrow morning.

    If you would, download the Dawn Of War II demo, then run the provided benchmark at 1600x900 and Ultra settings.

    Judging from his username, he probably lives in Antioch, California, just east of me. So ground shipping from Sager would take atmost two or three days. But then again, he's a Yankees fan so there is a chance I may have assumed wrong. Yet, then again the Giants and the A's suck right now so I guess he has his reasons for being a Yankee.

    When one of you lucky ducks with a 720QM or 820QM get your laptops in, would you be so kind as to stop by this thread and post your benchmarks? It's a CPU one, running Fritz (chess program) benchmark utility. Very small, takes about 90 seconds. I'm interested to see the results because this is the laptop I think i'll end up ordering.

    The SM 2.0/3.0 scores are average. I score higher with an OC'd 260m. The CPU score is nice for stock clocks though.

    From the information I've seen so far, only the 920XM can be manually overclocked to 3.73GHz. I hope some other software can help the non 920XM users.

    Is there a bios setting or utility to force/lock these i7s to use only 1-2 cores? I know the OS is supposed to control it but that might come in handy to save some battery power or OC...

    Thanks for the link - I was waiting for some confirmation that the W860 would be able to take advantage of a CPU with unlocked multipliers, unlike the M860.

    I used to think it was the 820QM, but based on the benchmarks in the review, you definitely have a point. It's especially true for anyone who may be waiting for a Clarksfield refresh or otherwise planning to upgrade their CPU sometime in the future. If the performance difference is so small, why pay an extra $200 for the 820QM when you can save that $200 and put it towards a future upgrade?

    i think i am going to get the clevo barebone and get the parts myself make it cheaper. that way i can pick up a 920xm.

    also rading the link the 920xm can only stably reach 3.73 if you disable hyperthreading so its just a plain old quad core at that point but still plenty cool

    Just google Rjtech , they sell the Clevo barebones.. Other Resellers on here might or should be able to get you a barebones as well..

    There's best Price :performance ratio then there's just wanting the best out there regardless of price. If you're squeezing pennies or worried about cost, then the entry level 720 is where it is at.

    If price is no object, the 920xm is it (along with max memory, top of the line SSDs and more but hey!)

    Personally, the 820qm was my pick. All the fixin's of the 920xm, with the best % turbo boost (77%) out of all three for less than half the cost of the 920xm.

    The old me would have gone with a Extreme chip for my desktop and laptop, but then I realized saving $1300 between the two is kind of nice. ;) (Nevermind I'm running at 3.8ghz on my desktop with a 920).

    Nothing is more amusing and frustrating than watching a miser try to convince a spendthrift why they should scrimp and save.... :)

    M860ETU with GTX260M scored around 5.5K
    W860CU with GTX280M scored around 6.6k

    so the gaming performance are not much affected eh?

    Depends on the game, as some titles have shown to be CPU dependent along with GPU dependent, but for the most part, it isn't as if these new systems are shattering records atm for gaming.

    All the CPU power in the world won't alleviate the bottleneck of current generation mobile GPUs which were bottlenecking even Core 2 chips (including the 280's).

    The i7 mobile parts just make that more readily apparent and also show which titles actually do benefit from more CPU power.

    Personally I'd go for 820. Simply because it allows turbo boost of 2.8 Ghz for 2cores. Where 720 only allows upto 2.4 for dual core - in the UK, upgrade price is pretty reasonable too.

    i was only going for the 920, because i know where i can get an engineers sample, so its very cheap compared to face value on the market.

    oh and it was rjtech that i was lookking at the barebones too.

    Ok, wait a sec. If we're talking barebones + ES, an argument cant be made for any of the chips. I'll definitely go for the 820QM ES for $355. I didn't realize they were already out in the wild.

    Anyone know where the cheapest 2GB sticks of 1333MHz can be found?
