But my temperatures are fine with the sticker on. Normal gaming use (Crysis etc) CPU 70, GPU 65. I see no reason to take it off. Certainly Clevo have put the sticker there for a purpose, which I think is to create airflow over the RAM and MB. Presumably Clevo have done more stress testing on their design, and have more knowledge and experience of their own laptop than anyone on this forum. My temperatures are fine, therefore my sticker stays on.

Uhmm, does AS5 come with the laptop? I mean the solution bottle itself?

I don't know. You might want to ask another user that bought a Sager notebook about that. But I do know that untouched Clevo notebooks come with a syringe of that tacky GFC-M7.

But my computer is not overheating, and my temps are fine with the sticker on... Clevo did not put the sticker on by accident. Sure, it looks like a late design mod (after the user manual was printed). But there must be a reason. I can only think it is to draw the air through the three slotted grills.

I would have bought an M15x too if I had an extra $grand.

I'll survive for now on my 3.5ghz C2D until a 3ghz i7 (all 4 cores) and a 58 series GPU arrives on an Alienware.

Yes, you can leave the battery in the notebook with it plugged in all day long. It will not hurt your battery. As long as you cycle your battery once a month, your battery will last a very long time.

go check out some clips from youtube, to get the feel of the sound u might be expecting.

i once had a sager laptop and in idle mode, the laptop sounds a lot like desktop computer 550W power supply being constant on.

If you would've used the money from your SSD + T9900, you could've purchased an M15x too instead of dealing with that Asus.

So I've been reading about all the heating issues you guys have been having a with the 8690 so do you think this makes this laptop not worth getting because of these issues or are they able to be easily fixed? and I was thinking about getting the i7 820...would that make the heating worse?

You have to remember that most people post on any forums when problems arises only to get help therefore most people who reads them seems to think that those are issues for the mast majority. People who have encountered no problems on this laptop can argue its the coolest 15" laptop on the market. Come on, you can beat average temp. 65-70c playing crysis on this baby can you?

turn ur laptop off, unhook the power adaptor and put it on a hard surface.

Once u put it on the hard surface, use ur left hand to pick it up from the left side and then u use ur right hand to pick it up from the rite side. And finally, hug it. Then you'll start seeing some teddy bears flyings everywhere. And then magic rainbow....

Those are pretty good temps Tobe ornot Tobe especially with the sticker still on. GPU 70c on Crysis is about where it should be for this laptop which is as cool as the underside of a rock.

I would add that the UK vendor (Kobalt) advises to keep the sticker on the vent, as laptop cooling is about balance, and not just about cooling one component (CPU).

Well if you are not having problems with the temps then by all means keep the sticker on. But for some reasons others are having better results having the sticker off. For me, ironically it did'nt even came with it.

Try this for a possible scenario:
Clevo design the W860CU, and their plastic molding supplier is given the order to commence building the case.
During post prototype testing they find there is some component (possibly RAM) that is not getting enough airflow, and is close to maximum allowable temperature.
Rather than junk the already bought cases at a financial loss, they experiment to find a solution.
They come up with blocking off the CPU vent intake, which diverts the airflow over the area of concern by forcing it to be drawn in through the three small grills in between the two intakes.
Probably at the same time the foam barrier around the GPU intake was fitted to maximise the GPU cooling.
The CPU stays within temperature limits, and the area of concern is cooled.
    Problem solved!

I would say it was extremely foolhardy to remove the plastic sticker. It didn't get there by accident, and I can only surmise that Clevo know more about laptop cooling than the combined subscribers to this particular forum.

Except for the fact that at least 2 people in this thread have already stated that their laptops did not come with this sticker. I'm not sure where they ordered theirs but in any case is this a clevo decision or sager? They may have tested and fixed what you describe but I wouldn't call them the end all be all of laptop cooling. They still can't seem to apply thermal paste properly :p So far I've seen evidence that the removal of the sticker lowers cpu temps. With regards to the sticker on, the only thing I've seen is speculation and theories. If someone can provide some evidence that it is far more detrimental to the health of the laptop to take the sticker off than I'm all ears.

I'll say if you are running perfect temps...leave alone but if it helps your temps out dramatically by taking the sticker off then do that. If your laptop is overheating, by all means do something and compromise by already knowing what is running hot (in this case the cpu) and fix it by following what ever proven solutions that are out there and not wait until something blows up because in theory..it was supposed to be part of the design to leave it alone. You guys remember Asus and even some the earlier NP8660/M860tu stickers over the vent situation? Taking the stickers off didn't do anything to harm them but helped the ones that were overheating.

Well, I took my sticker off yesterday and set it on the living room table. I leave for language lessons and come back. It's gone, Ayi put it in the incinerator, she must've thought it was garbage. Oh well, I'll look for it just to be sure but I doubt it will show up. I hope Soviet was right about taking it off.

It's simple mechanical engineering. Less vacuum turbulence, less distance, less motor stress, cooler CPU. Science is always right.

It's called experimenting. I messed around with this laptop so much I found out things other users didn't come across. That's how I came across the lower CPU temps when removed.
