But my temperatures are fine with the sticker on. Normal gaming use (Crysis etc) CPU 70, GPU 65. I see no reason to take it off. Certainly Clevo have put the sticker there for a purpose, which I think is to create airflow over the RAM and MB. Presumably Clevo have done more stress testing on their design, and have more knowledge and experience of their own laptop than anyone on this forum. My temperatures are fine, therefore my sticker stays on.

Uhmm, does AS5 come with the laptop? I mean the solution bottle itself?

I don't know. You might want to ask another user that bought a Sager notebook about that. But I do know that untouched Clevo notebooks come with a syringe of that tacky GFC-M7.

I would have bought an M15x too if I had an extra $grand.
I'll survive for now on my 3.5ghz C2D until a 3ghz i7 (all 4 cores) and a 58 series GPU arrives on an Alienware. -
hey guys pls help me with this ok? can i leave the battery in the laptop while on ac mode all the time? For i realise that if i takethe battery out, The laptop will be short of a leg. And will it be bad on the battery with it inside my notebook all the time ? Like will it reduce my battery life? Please help me with this
typing with an unbalance notebook is an headache

it'll be fine. I do this with all laptops.
-
Just ordered my first Clevo, hopefully I wont be disappointed! I'm sure I won't. The kobalt team seems like a good bunch of guys.

i once had a sager laptop and in idle mode, the laptop sounds a lot like desktop computer 550W power supply being constant on. -
-
If you would've used the money from your SSD + T9900, you could've purchased an M15x too instead of dealing with that Asus. -
So I've been reading about all the heating issues you guys have been having a with the 8690 so do you think this makes this laptop not worth getting because of these issues or are they able to be easily fixed? and I was thinking about getting the i7 820...would that make the heating worse?

My review is posted and will be updated throughout tomorrow with pictures and benchmarks. I have all of these uploaded but I'm feeling lazy atm. Feel free to comment on it and please refrain from quoting the original post as it will be updated constantly.
-
Definately I'll be checking it out. Thanks, ChinNoobonic.
-
Even with the defective fans that my 8690 had, the temps were amazing.
-
I repost my idle temps for u jtvjeo
i love this screen =D usually my temps are 52-55 when just watchin vids or surfing web. Gaming, only tried COD4 and l4d CPU goes to 65-68 max i've seen AFTER i took that plastic thing off my vent. Before, it was like 77-82ish -
lol one of your core is 45 and others are 50..
anyone know any mod i could do to cool my laptop? -
Once u put it on the hard surface, use ur left hand to pick it up from the left side and then u use ur right hand to pick it up from the rite side. And finally, hug it. Then you'll start seeing some teddy bears flyings everywhere. And then magic rainbow.... -
Nice big screen!
I need a hug now. I won't get to see my Clevo till the 5th of December -
Full HD 1920x1080 screen
gtx 280
i7 820
4gb ram
500gb 7200rpm
8X DVD±R/RW/4X
oh and should i get the zero dead pixel policy...im trying to decide if it will really make a difference or even if ill notice the difference with it being 200$ -

I've just had a 30 minute Crysis session. Ambient temperature 20c, max CPU 72c, max GPU 70c. With the sticker on.
-
Those are pretty good temps Tobe ornot Tobe especially with the sticker still on. GPU 70c on Crysis is about where it should be for this laptop which is as cool as the underside of a rock.
-
I would add that the UK vendor (Kobalt) advises to keep the sticker on the vent, as laptop cooling is about balance, and not just about cooling one component (CPU).
-
Well if you are not having problems with the temps then by all means keep the sticker on. But for some reasons others are having better results having the sticker off. For me, ironically it did'nt even came with it.
-
-
Try this for a possible scenario:
Clevo design the W860CU, and their plastic molding supplier is given the order to commence building the case.
During post prototype testing they find there is some component (possibly RAM) that is not getting enough airflow, and is close to maximum allowable temperature.
Rather than junk the already bought cases at a financial loss, they experiment to find a solution.
They come up with blocking off the CPU vent intake, which diverts the airflow over the area of concern by forcing it to be drawn in through the three small grills in between the two intakes.
Probably at the same time the foam barrier around the GPU intake was fitted to maximise the GPU cooling.
The CPU stays within temperature limits, and the area of concern is cooled.
Problem solved!
I would say it was extremely foolhardy to remove the plastic sticker. It didn't get there by accident, and I can only surmise that Clevo know more about laptop cooling than the combined subscribers to this particular forum. -
, but I am working on a replacement
Thanks xotic! -
So far I've seen evidence that the removal of the sticker lowers cpu temps. With regards to the sticker on, the only thing I've seen is speculation and theories. If someone can provide some evidence that it is far more detrimental to the health of the laptop to take the sticker off than I'm all ears.
-
I'll say if you are running perfect temps...leave alone but if it helps your temps out dramatically by taking the sticker off then do that. If your laptop is overheating, by all means do something and compromise by already knowing what is running hot (in this case the cpu) and fix it by following what ever proven solutions that are out there and not wait until something blows up because in theory..it was supposed to be part of the design to leave it alone. You guys remember Asus and even some the earlier NP8660/M860tu stickers over the vent situation? Taking the stickers off didn't do anything to harm them but helped the ones that were overheating.
-
anyone has the problem where the laptop is not responding and it showed black screen? it happened twice already. One from going to stand by and another one being just randomly turned black screen...
-
Well, I took my sticker off yesterday and set it on the living room table. I leave for language lessons and come back. It's gone, Ayi put it in the incinerator, she must've thought it was garbage. Oh well, I'll look for it just to be sure but I doubt it will show up. I hope Soviet was right about taking it off.

It's simple mechanical engineering. Less vacuum turbulence, less distance, less motor stress, cooler CPU. Science is always right.
