Whats up gents, thought I'd post up in here even though I haven't got my sager yet. Ordered it today with the specs below.

Are they many canadian guys in here? I am wondering if I have been the first person to order the NP8690 through AETSolutions out of Quebec.

Yeah, I don't know how i'd actually do that accurately, but I would say it's close. A dead pixel is way better than a stuck pixel that can't be unstuck after trying, You can't see dead pixels in blacks or any dark backgrounds, only white and light blues/yellows/reds. So yah it could be worse, plus it's the 1080p screen, it's a very very small dead pixel in the scheme of things. Looking at it here on this page, I think I'm SOL, it looks to be a 1/2 inch left of the line I made for the # :( . Whatever I wasn't going to send it back in anyway, I just waited a month for it to be delivered...I'll buy another panel, I'll get the 1600x900 panel next.
Man I'm really hating this touchpad, I'll mouse the cursor, and my web page will just go down a tad, or up. It's really annoying me, and the driver for it is so generic, synaptics had all kinds of tweaking options, I don't see any for this driver.

It's actually not that big. The W870CU is wedged on three sides making the underside of the notebook as small as the W860CU. Only the area where the ports are, the chassis trim, and the display itself are the only large parts. The wedged design makes it extremely easy to grip and tote around.

ei guys whats the fastest and most stable driver available for our graphics card?
also what o/c program do you use? is the lastest riva tuner stable with this card and with the fastes/stable driver?

im sure this has been answered in some posts but between work and actual gaming and outdoor activities i dont have the time to look thorough a thousand posts.

hope you guys dont mind. thanks

186.81 WHQL is a good balanced driver. RivaTuner or NST should work in overclocking your card.

I have not overclocked it yet, rather I have underclocked it. I won't begin to overclock it until I finish my cooling mod in January.

Sager uses a image similar to the one I attached you can use to see if your DP is in the middle Quadrant.

It's about a 1/4 of an inch high from the middle quadrant, oh well, I couldn't even find it when I was playing Aion, and it's pretty small on this 1080 screen also. Plus it was even harder to see it in the dark vs. in the light due to the other pixels drowning it out. But it's a flaw, and will be replaced someday when I have the extra $$.
I imagine it wouldn't be much more than $$150 for a panel would it?

Soviet...I thought you were someone else! What did you do with him, and where is he!

OH yah, I just remembered what I was going to ask: Where do you get that Intel CPU load monitor for the i7 mobile versions?

My NP8690 has finally arrived! Its a beautiful sleek machine and I'm still fiddling around with it. Couple of questions

    1) I ran intelburn at maximum stress, and intelcore temperatures reached 80-82 celsius, thats pretty normal right?

    2) Is it advisable to undervolt?

    3) Windows 7 came preinstalled. So what do I do if I want to re-install/partition a drive etc etc? The last OS i installed was XP with a cd

    TIA

I never ran it, but the max t-junction value is 100C, you're well under limit.

I've never done this on an i7, and am not sure it's possible with your bios. The W870CU with 920XM (and the rumored MySyn.de bios) are the only unlocked ones I've seen. Regardless, unless you're having a problem, I wouldn't bother.

Do whatever you'd like. Use a bootable partition manager, a 3rd party partition manager, Windows disk management, or just boot with the Windows 7 DVD. All will allow you to re-size or create partitions.

Just realised there is a green stuck pixel near the bottom of the screen, just underneath the border between the taskbar and desktop. Its only visible on a black screen. I've tried jscreenfix and the massage method to no avail. Any chance it might just go away by itself? I cant be bothered to send it back but its really irritating

For me, the stuck pixel is only visible at the windows startup screen when the rest of the screen is totally black except for the logo. So...I'm simply never going to switch off my laptop. I've read somewhere that its good enough to leave the laptop in hibernate/sleep mode. Can any experts verify?

No harm will come to the hardware if the notebook is put in sleep mode or hibernate.

Well, you'll probably want to shut it down completely every month or two so you can perform routine maintenance like blowing out the vents, but yes, in general, there will be no issues just using hibernate/sleep mode.

try applying some pressure on the stuck pixel with your finger. I use this method on a stuck pixel on my computer screen and it worked like a charm.

thanks for the feedback. Yeah I tried the pressure method but no luck. Guess I'll just live with it unless it decides to go away by itself

[edit] I ran furmark stability test with extreme burning on, fullscreen 1920 x 1080, MSAA at 16x and post processing on. The GPU actually hit 98C at the 300 sec mark, before it suddenly dropped to 80C odd. Intel core remained at 60C plus. Should I be worried? Keep in mind this is with a zalman 2000c running at full speed. Ambient temperature of 30-32C. This is my first laptop and its really not looking good so far. 1 stuck pixel and now sky high temperatures!

F-ing eh! I was told it's less than 1/2 percent but I'm having doubts. I figure most people who buy show themselves on this forum eventually being uber geeks and all and a LOT of pixel issues...

Personally if there's any issue and for this money mine's going back in the box so GD fast I'll flag the guy who dropped it off as he loops the sub ;)

Is it true that you should wait untill a notebook is cooled down enough, after some intensive use, before closing the screen, because heat radiated from the 'chassis' can cause slight damage (I'm using this word in a wide variety of meanings) to the screen ?

I didn't have one on either of my two 8690's. I wouldn't call 3-4 people "so many". What you read here is a very, very tiny subset of all the people ordering.

Yah, it kinda sucks that I'm SOL on this dead pixel, It's a flaw...and a flaw is a flaw to me, so far I'm lucky it's running fine and it's just a dead pixel instead of a stuck bright colored pixel. Ive never had a dead pixel on anything, and my 9280 didn't have one, but of course my 8690 came with one, and I KNEW I would get a dead pixel, just because I had been pretty lucky so far. Honestly from what ive seen on the forums, the 8690 has had more reports of dead/stuck pixels than any other new Clevo so far.

Indeed, this has been the first screen of any lcd that had any issues with bad pixels, stuck pixels or flickering. But man this display is beautiful. I'm ordering the w870cu and sending this one back. Hopefully I'll not have any more issues. Going to upgrade to an SSD now that intel has their trim issues sorted out.

One other thing, I put the sticker back and didn't notice the fans as much while in idle. Mostly because before, the fans were very silent and then speeding up every minute or so and then slowing back down again. Now it stays at a somewhat constant speed. Not as silent as before but not as loud as when the fans noticeably sped up every minute. The fan slow button still makes the fans louder for me though.

My first 8690 was defective, and I agree, when it worked it was an amazing machine. The replacement 8690 was much better :)

Now I'm just waiting for the W870CU to show up.. hopefully by next weekend!

The dark side is a very powerful one. You will find that the W870CU is no bigger or chunkier than the W860CU.

A tad it is, but after owning an M17x for a while I can truthfully say the W870CU feels so much smaller and sleeker for a '17 machine it’s so easy to pick up and handle. You have to see it in person to appreciate its qualities.

80C is normal, mine got up to 78C on that same test. 98C is not.

Run it again, and see what you get. This time leave off the zalman, so you can get a usable reading that you can compare to the rest of ours.

What's with your temperature? 30-32C ambient? Where are you located?

That sucks! 4 people is hardly a good sample population though. I'm sure Sager/Clevo has shipped thousands of units, and unfortunately, only the people here, posting on NBR, are the ones who we know about that have dead pixels. I wish we had more data, but I don't think we'll ever get it.

it is true dude -.- my previous asus gave me black darker patches which they called ghosting due to this issue and is not covered by warranty :(. The heat from the note book actually created burnt mark on the screen. So now my sager is treated like a king. Fanning him after each use.

yeah sager is not popular with my fellow mates. well according to my logic is that some one who owns a beast will most likely show off their assets. so most likely they will turn up on forum like this one .. hmm. not really too sure if they shipped 1k plus for this model though. well i may be wrong.

Somebody should ad a new poll, voting for dead pixel or perfect screen relative to the number of pixel (1080p or 900p) :D :D :D

    FYI, mine is perfect.
