Only a few peeps have the space bar issue. Its is a chiclet style keyboard tho' if that affects your typing..

Mine quieter than my old dell xps and cooler together. Frankly I was worried and its pretty quiet.

One hour tops on battery. Personally I dont think the whole package is too heavy.

Anyway good luck in your search.

Stuck pixels may come back, but they also might not. Chances are they won't. Better than having a dead pixel, definitely.

Errr what the hell, what version of the 860CU uses CCFL panels?

    From the article:

No wonder it was scoring pretty poorly in the display test section...

Hi guys, just ordered my NP8690, can't wait to get it. Feel like I should read through this entire thread eventually, but that's a lot of pages for someone who isn't too computer savvy like me...

I have one main question though. If I have a monitor that requires a dual-link DVI-D compatible graphics card (30" Dell), can the 8690 handle this or will I have to buy something on the side? Thanks!

Definitely that is not safe if you are just gaming. If you run Furmark, it's quite reachable but it isn't practical to do so.

If the hinge creeks and feels too tight, you just need to loosen it a bit (don't know how unfortunately) or add some lubrication like WD40. Though it's probably nothing. That tension is required to keep the lid from swinging open and close without applied force.

Dual-Link DVI is simply a fully wired DVI port that is capable of transmitting higher resolution data. You do not need any different cables/adaptors as long as the hardware supports it.

So Im up to two stuck pixels. Massaged those out.

Recieved a Xfi express sound card. Its sounds much better. Not sure its worth the full Xfi price, but they were on sale at dell for 40$.

Very disappointed this screen this shabby. I mean it looks fantastic. But I should not have to worry about massaging pixels unstuck every few days. Technically if I had not massaged them out Im 2 pixels away from a warranty replacement.

    :/

Maybe, or tuned down G73...or might be another forsa 768x with lower spec.

The latter more probable though :p
Because:1) I need a more portable laptop with longer battery life for works, 2) selling used high spec.-not widely known (not to mention local brand) is hard and sell at much loss :(

From my experience is easier to sell used sub $ 500/$1000 in our country :D

I say better hold until mobile 59xx/second gen. mobile fermi ;), but that just meh :D

Hey guys, do any of you w860cu/NP8690 owners have a i7 620m, or even an i5 processor in your laptop? I'm trying to get an idea on what kind of improvement that would give, as far as battery life is concerned.

From what I'm reading, it doesn't seem to be very popular to customize these laptops with anything below an i7 720qm, which is a bit odd to me considering how it would theoretically help the laptop's biggest weakpoint.

I doubt that a lower CPU will help battery life much. You can limit CPU frequency while on battery ( on the i7 720 for example ) so it will drain less power, but the battery life will gain no more than 5 minutes. The same goes for underclocking the GPU. I have been thinking about it and the truth is that the battery has a very low capacity and that's about it. The notebook needs to operate the LCD, CPU, GPU, HDD, wireless, fans and so on. This translates in a battery life of about an hour. Unless Clevo comes up with a higher capacity battery, that's about it...

The only solution to the battery life is getting an external battery pack like the xpal, maybe the resellers can consider bundling of such purchases together with Clevos.

if you want, in Mangga Dua some merchant sell an external battery pack for universal notebook, wiich is come in various Voltage, but in 1 capacity about 6000mAh. it's prized about 500-700 rb Rupiah ( about US$ 55-75 )

6000mAH is abit small though, the xpal has one that's 18000mAH.

Lolz, and after doing a search on Taobao (China's Ebay), found a China made mobile battery that's imba 183Wh with 50kmAH for same price as the 18kmAH xpal.

Sager's battery is 42Wh, which last 1 hr, with 183Wh, it can last for 4-5hrs more. 0.o

Xpal 18000 is 70Wh, means only around 1.5hrs more, though might be safer than made in China batteries (even though it's probably also made in China and only rebranded).

I think I'm going to buy that China made one since I'm here right now. it's same price for 183Wh, which is 2.5 times the capacity of the Xpal, could last my Sager's whole 5hr trip on the plane. The new timbuk2 large race stripe messenger bag I bought is really huge and I think can put in even 3 of it in there.

What's the Wh for the battery you saw? The mAH doesn't mean anything really without knowing the Voltage it's used at.

Didn't buy it yet, still need to consider whether do I really need more battery life, because I'm using it plugged in most of the time. Still have 2 more months till I enter uni, not sure of how available are the power supply points there. Maybe I'll just order one in a week's time, since after some googling the 183Wh external battery is only available in China, so I'll have to get it before I fly back.

Don't think i'll get the xpal 18000, because from online reviews, it seems that external battery is not as efficient as internal battery, and the real battery life will be cutdown by alot from the advertised one, moreover, considering that battery life will degrade over time, at least a 183Wh even after degradation will still last quite a while, while the 70Wh xpal will probaby only give 0.5-1hr after some time.

just saw it in a merchant when i bought a skin for my clevo

but, it said to compatible with handhelds, netbook and notebook, so it must be 9 V and/or 18 v output ( it's common input voltage ifor handhelds in here)

The mAH is usually advertised for the smallest voltage it can handle. The 4400mAH Clevo battery is actually 40+ Wh, while the Xpal's 18000mAH is only 70Wh, less than 2 times capacity difference in actual.

So, I am thinking about using Linux on my 8690, would there be an issue i would encounter such as drivers, or anything of that sort, I guess I am just curious to see what linux has to offer.
