Really depends on when Clevo 7970ms become available. Alienware will get them first, likely next week or the following, the the Clevo cards will become available. Factoring in build time and shipping, and if there are no shortages of parts (big "if" here), you could get it in early June. Going by the law of averages on past delays, and consodering the number of people already in queue, mid-late June is more likely I'm guessing.
I'm just going by past exp and obs: a reseller might be able to give a more specific date.

Most consider the 8MB cache to not be worth it other than braging rights. But some people like to have the best it is more of piece of mind. As for the 3920... XTU doesn't work on the 150EM as posted by hizzaah. Doesn't mean you can't get it though, just the XTU feature isn't there... the NP9130 doesn't even support it so your slightly ahead I guess.
The nvidia vs 7970 depends on what you are going to use it for. Applications specifically requiring CUDA for encoding or rendering or any other application may influence the type of card you are looking for. If there is no dependency on card type or if the application may be able to use ATI equivalent to CUDA then it could still work. So stick with your gutt as most people say. If you are not comfortable stick with nvidia. If you are sure there are no attachments to applications then feel free to jump in with the 7970. The 7970 does for the most part perform better by what everyone is saying... but if you need it right away it's not officially released yet... so... your call in the end.
compiling code... how often do you expect to compile large amounts of code? I think IB is 1600Mhz, but I could be reading it wrong on the intel site. Anyhow in most instances compiling code is more CPU intensive than ram. So unless you are constantly compiling large amount of code it really shouldn't mater compared to normal use. Most of time and effort is writing the code no compiling it, unless you really are that good. -
I pulled the trigger!!!! Wooohooo!!!
-
I ordered Sunday! I hope it doesn't take till the end of may or even worst beginning of June!
I'm surprised how many people selected the 95% gamut screen. I didn't in my build. -
Hi everyone I tried to make this configuration on the laptop, is it good enough?

I'd say that's a good build. CPU is the best for the money, you're not getting any higher than that GPU. I like the hard drive setup. Others might suggest you reconsider your RAM configuration to save money. I personally think it's fine.

Thats great. Pretty much the same as mine.
The only thing is that I can only afford a 60G SSD

D3 and BF3 and Crysis 3 will be very nice on here haha.
Can't wait till some affordable 1440p IPS 24" monitors come out. Hopefully they hit $400-$500 or less next year. -
My order is currently in stage 2 on XoticPC. For financial reasons I opted for now to bypass the mSata SSD/ SSD HD options. I realize by reading this thread that having the OS installed on an SSD vs a traditional HD improves boot time and performance.
Any recommendations as to which mSata to purchase in the following months? Will it require a complete reinstall of the OS on the mSata or can I "migrate" my install from the HD when I decide to add an mSata?

Ok ok ok...
I just bought my P150EM/NP9150 and i ordered it with a main 7200 500Gb HDD. I already bought a 120gb SSD to install myself.
I've read through about 30 pages of the thread, but ive gotten pretty confused, with the HDD Bay, the optical bay and the Msata bay.
Isnt there a specific bay for the Msata?
If there is, why should i swap out my HDD to the optical drive bay?
Do i need specific mounting devices for this?
Also some pics explaining the inside and what goes where would really help. Sorry for all the questions and thanks so much in advanced. -
There are three slots, HDD, ODD, and mSATA.
The HDD has faster data transfer rates than the ODD (SATA III vs SATA II). So if you want to take full advantage of a SSD, you want to stick your normal hard drive into the ODD and the SSD into the HDD, if you opt to go for the SSD+HDD configuration. Stick Windows on the SSD.
Yes, you will need a special mount installed into the ODD for it to hold a hard drive. Most resellers can do that for you. Just let them know.
XOTIC PC - Sager NP9150 (Clevo P150EM) Video Review - YouTube gives a good overview of what's under the hood - skip towards the end. -
Thanks you Slane04 for the quick reply.
The laptop already shipped, can i buy this mount myself and install it myself? -

What kind of SSD did you buy? If it's a standard size 2.5" SSD, then you have to swap out the drives because you don't have an mSATA model. There are three places you can have a drive on this model: the mSATA slot, the primary drive bay, and the optical bay. mSATA is a standard that uses SSD's about the size of flash drive. They go into mPCIe slots that wired for them. In your case, it sounds like you don't have an mSATA drive.
You should install your SSD in the primary bay because it can handle the faster SATA 3 drives, while the optical bay is slower SATA 2, thus better for mechanical drives which won't use the full primary bay speed. You need an optical drive caddy to install a hard drive into the optical bay because it converts 12.7mm optical form factor to a 9.5mm hard drive size.
You can buy the caddy from pretty much any retailer, or you can buy generic 12.7mm SATA optical caddies elsewhere (though they may not match cosmetically, or may not use the same retaining system- you have to check). -
I bought a Intel 510 Series 120 GB SATA Version 3 2.5-Inch Solid-State Drive. I still have time to cancel the order though.
-
can anyone tell me how much weight increase if I made the upgrade on graphic card to radeon 7970 and matt 95% gamut and etc?
-
Just put in my order for the NP9150 last night! Very excited to receive it.
After some research, I went with xoticpc. I'll report my first impressions once the unit arrives next week! -
Is that the radeon 7970m model?
-
I can't imagine the a lot weight being contributed by the screen and the graphic card. It already 6.83 lbs with the standard options. Switching out the normal HDD to SDD will definitely make it lighter, but I see that you got the 500 gb HDD in the optical bay. Maybe you can leave that out and put it in only when you need to use it.
-
but I actually need that space for storage media content. That is the reason why I put it in optical bay. I just hope that it isn't heavy as my laptop right now which is 17.3 inch 7.7 lb...
-
Yah, but I went with a 675m. I don't think the 7970m is ready quite yet.
-
isn't the 675m a reflashed 580m ? How's the thermal on that card
-
If you can give your impression about weight and portability when you receive your unit that will be appreciate
-
Happy to do so. I know I relied a lot on the feedback of the NBR community to make my purchase and happy to do the same for others.
It's the same card. some people have been able to reflash a 580m into a 675m:

Can I use 120w AC with the GTX 675m ? Together with a 35w cpu

I'm ordering my NP9150EM with the stock 500GB HDD and will separately buy a 120GB 2.5" SSD (they're on deals). I am also opting for the HDD Caddy in the Optical Drive Bay. Will I be able to remove the HDD and put it in the Optical Bay and also put in my SSD without much difficulty, as I'm not so good with screws?
-
No, you really will need at least 150W PSU (180W is recommended though) to use a GTX675M even along a 35w CPU.
-
OK, just read this entire thread in one sitting. My head is spinning.
I now ask for your expertise. I will be replacing my faithful old Dell M1710 notebook with a P150E/Sager NP 9150. For the first time in a long time, gaming will not be a top consideration (I have moved most of my hard core gaming to the 360 and PS3.) However, I will be doing a lot of video editing, using software like Vegas and primarily Cyberlink PowerDirector 10. Powerdirector has hardware acceleration options, to quote from the program "Intel Effect Accleration/nVidia CUDA/AMD Accelerated Parallel Processing technology if available to speed up the video effect preview/render, as well as hardware decoding options." I know that this means the nVidia 675 option is a good one, but not sure about the new ATI option.
So what I am asking: for a machine that will be primarily used for 1080p video editing (as the most intensive app - I will also be using Photoshop for photo editing and then all the standard computer stuff: Office, web, etc.) what would you recommend as the best and most cost effective configuration? CPU, GPU, and especially the HD configuration? I have no experience at all with any kind of SSD, but I will need a lot of storage for the video and photo and sound files and I believe storage speed will be important in editing and playing the edited video. Oh - I need a BluRay writer too, so I assume that bay will be taken up with the BD writer option.
Thanks! -
I'm excited to say I decided to purchase the NP9150 after extensive window-hopping and research every thread on this forum ^^

Does it actually weight 6.8 lbs , because I have a Vaio F 2012 next to me and it's 6.8 lbs. If it weights the same, I'm hooked !
-
Anthony@MALIBAL Company Representative
Yep, but that doesn't include the power brick either. -
But apparently the shipping weight is 28 lbs o.o
the power brick can't be that heavy -
Does anyone know how this would compare, size wise, to like a Dell M65? I toted one of those around Florida for 2 weeks and it was a pain. I have an Asus N82JQ right now...the size is perfect for travel, I would hate to drop nearly 2k and have a big monster of a machine. I love the specs...just having trouble with the possible size.
-
this laptop is heavier and larger than the m65.
-
I'd recommend a 750gb 7200rpm drive with as big of an mSATA ssd as you can afford. You should get a 95% gamut screen as the improved color accuracy will help your editing. 3610qm should be a good enough processor, for gpu get either 675m or 7970m, depending on when you need the computer by.
2nd graphics card? U sure you bought the right thing?
It really makes me mad when companies give you your spec sheet and it's full of pointless stuff (like printers) that it's telling you you didn't buy, and stuff that's super obvious (like the ports) that you couldn't change anyway. It's a rediculous waste of time trying to find out what people actually bought. Really, would you put all that in a sig? -
Can somebody plz tell me what caddy they used to mount the hdd in the optical bay, a caddy that fits and doesnt ruin the look of the laptop?
-
Your laptop is 6.2 pound and this laptop is about 6.8 pound. So it's larger. At least, your laptop is better than mine which is 7.7 pound - - so I hope that this laptop will be more portable than current one.
-
jesus christ that sounds like the configurator is yelling at you
-
Ok so I changed my order after obsessing over it some more and apparently I'm insecure about it because I'm telling you guys.
3720 Processor changed to i7-3610QM
500GB 7200RPM Primary HDD changed to Intel 520 240GB SSD
8GB 1600mhz Ram changed to 12GB - DDR3 1600MHz Dual Channel Memory
Bluray Optical drive changed to 750GB 7200RPM (I'm going to get an external drive for like 40 bucks)
now I'm at like 2100 bucks...bleghhhhhh -
Almost identical to my setup XD
-
If I were to buy a P150em right now for 1300, what would be the best upgrades for the price with NBR discounts and from what reseller? Also, I am in Nebraska, so I believe I'd have an added 7% tax from xotic so that kind of takes them out of the picture even with their great discounts.
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using Tapatalk 2 -
NP9150 is a 180W power supply.
As for that build you should go with your gutt. HDD change to SSD looks pretty expensive. the ram change might not really make a big difference. If I had to choose more ram or better processor... I'd pick the processor because ram upgrades are easy. Blue ray vs HD switch depends on what you are using it for. If you are for sure switching to SSD in main bay then most choose a HD in optical but if you think you would be using the ODD for movies more than storage a usb drive might work just as well. Anyhow don't second guess yourself. You know what you are using it for so built towards that. -
Assuming it would fit, he could "use" a 120W brick, but you'd probably have degrated performance and you'd be using more power than you'd be bringing in. and there's a chance you could fry the brick, possibly some internal components along with it. Not really worth it just to save a bit of weight with a smaller brick.
Check out LPC-Digital. They've got pretty good prices and are located in Las Vegas. babyhemi is their rep on here. You have to message/email/call for the best prices -
for 1300 the best discount you can get is in ram if you choose 8gb of ram 1333 instead of 1600 stock. That will gives you $50 discount. If you want to have $50 discount from NBR then you need to make upgrade above $1500. I believe the graphic card 7970 and 95 % gamut screen are the best upgrades.
This is from xoptic pc
I start to wonder if i use 95% gamut will be worthless without calibration. I read through other forum and people said that it will be over saturate without calibration.
