I'm patiently waiting for my NP9150 from Powernotebooks. I ordered on May 30 with full knowledge there might be a prolonged wait. But today, I noticed on their website that it no longer says the 7970m is on backorder. Hopefully there will be some good news coming my way in the next few days!
-
we should call sager and say its ok to take a weeee bit more time to not strip the screws
-
Ive been reading this thread religiously waiting for this thing! Cant wait hehe
-
So the screws I'm referring to are the heatsink screws...7 for the GPU and 4 for the CPU. 2 on the CPU were almost completely rounded, and all of them were damaged in some way. The screws holding the case together looked perfect.
-
You should be able to hot change the battery out and run the notebook of the power supply without the battery. Hmmmm stange!
-
I'd always advise to plug the notebook in until 100% charged during the first time used. Then run on battery till you get the please plug me in I'm thirsty warning (Low battery). Then give a full charge. =]
Even if not leaving the house, I run my battery down at least once every 10 days to make sure the battery stays happy. -
Just a shot in the dark... I'm thinking about upgrading my A/V reciever/amplifier to one that supports HDMI as my current Sony ES A/V amp is 11 year old...
Has anyone plugged the HDMi from their P150em HD7970 into an A/V Reciever/Amplifier? Does the notebook transmit undecoded AC3/DTS/DD 5.1 surround though the HDMI output?
Has anyone used their notebook's Intel WiDi with any of the available HD WiDi recievers? Does the WiDi transmit the undecoded AC3/DTS/DD 5.1 surround to the WiDi reciever? (For anyone who's interested WiDi is Intels technology for the wireless transmission of video. It is supported by any of the Intel wireless card options available to the P150em bar the basic Wireless N 130 card. You just need a WiDi reciever plugged into your TV or HD TV to use the laptop with your TV wirelessly).
I love my toys! -
MY HDMI DOESN'T WORK
I have a new NP9150 from Xotic with Windows 7 64. It has a GTX 675m. The HDMI doesn't work (no detection, no output) and I've tried many different driver versions from Sager's latest up to 302.59. The nVidia control panel NEVER has "Set up multiple displays" in the settings list. The DVI DOES work. I havn't been able to check the display port.
... actually the HDMI port does work but only when I boot from an Ubuntu Live CD, so the hardware must be fine.
Has anyone else with a 675m had problems with HDMI? Is there anyone with a 675m that can confirm their HDMI functions properly? I know there is at least one other person that has this problem with a 675m, but on a NP9170.
Thanks -
Did you try using different hdmi cables ? And I'm also interested in the widi it runs off the igpu though not the 7970m
-
Because WiDi is an Intel technology standard, I'm 98% sure it uses the iGPU.
-
Did you cycle the available outputs using Win+P?
-
Actually the problem wasn't AMD's fault, it was Clevo's for using bogus 3rd party voltage regulators.
It won't help for gaming, remember that the stock screen is fabulous too.
4 posts up from you, bro.
I get 4 hours with iGPU, no bluetooth, wifi on, screen brightness 25% and doing mundane tasks like browsing NBR and downloading things. If I turn off wifi, set brightness to 0% and don't use anything that uses my HDD's, then I get 5 hours. What GPU you get won't matter as you'd be using integrated on battery anyway.
Depends what CPU it is. If it's some dual core then get the sager too. If it's a quad core, ask your school if that's really the best use of their money and keep the sager. You should lower your config a bit though, and maybe even get the NP9130 to save money. 7970m is overkill for light gaming.
Exact same thing on a hardware level, but AMD's software is currently inferior.
Maybe not, depends how much you could sell your old one for. 670m is already a year old, so good luck with that.
Seconded. Maybe they should just include spare screws, they probably cost a few pennies at most in the quantity Sager buys them.
Because the dGPU passes through the iGPU anyway, I'm 98% sure it would still work. -
Just wanted to say that i talked to a customer sales rep, posted a pic on like page 185 and he pushed me ahead into production. I had made my order on may 13th but the check hadnt processed until june 6th. He very simply complied to help me out with this dilemma. Try talking to someone about your problem. Just wondering about your laptop won't get anything done.
-
this makes my wait seem so short, granted I didn't get the 7970 but still ordered mine on the 24the and it will be here Monday or Tuesday
-
i went for stock wireless card and realised most of the people here using intel wireless.
is it worth to get intel wireless card? i just need to connect to my home router(just under my laptop's table) and not sure i should upgrade to better wireless card..hmm
do you think this stock wireless can bear my 4+ years old dell inspiron with intel centrino wireless carD? -
First of all i'm a newbie here so hi everyone. I know that noise from the fan isn't a big problem, but if i will be gaming in my dorm room and I get a super picky room mate I don't want to bother him. Is there any way to decrease the noise just a little? Will adding a better thermal paste keep it cooler and therefore reduce the use of the fan? Also, is it easy/automatic to do all the battery saving things like turning down gpu usage, decreasing brightness and such? I know these are really dumb questions, but I am kinda new to the computer gaming world especially on laptops. Thank you to anyone who answers and to everyone who has posted. This has been a really helpful forum, and I am almost sure I am getting this laptop for gaming/college!!!
-
I'm coming from a similar l501x upgrade and I can honestly EVERYTHING is far superior to the Dell other than the speakers unfortunately. The l501x's speakers are outstanding, surpassing many mid-range stand alone speakers so it was slightly depressing to here the weak speakers in the 150EM, but it's nothing a good set of headphones or external audio wont fix! -
Depends how many antennas your dell has.
Yes, you can upgrade the paste which will help. And all of the battery stuff is either automatic or on the Fn keys. -
Nice to hear, thanks Vahlen! I don't use a desk atm so the notebook speakers are pretty important to me, but I plan to change that and I will likely use external speakers. Thanks for the encouragement!
-
Mine should be arriving next Wednesday!
3610 : 7970m : 256GB Crucial M4 : 8GB 1600mhz RAM : No Branding : IC Thermal Diamond Paste : Possible 500GB hybrid drive in ODB or selling it to get a smaller mSata.
I'm going to write up a small review most likely. Going to take a while to set up windows 7 ultimate 64 bit + all of my games + my software and mess with it for a day or two first though
Then I'll do some 3d mark 11 w/ out OC and with OC, then SSD benchmark, then CPU Bench then some BF3 footage maxed out + Skyrim w/ hi def textures add on.
I'm also going to try many methods to OC the 60hz AUO V.4 display to 75/80Hz even though so far it seems as though its very difficult with an AMD card like 7970m compared to nVidia cards.
Also still need to go buy a Win 7 copy from my school w/ a school discount
Then I'm running this all up !
Can't wait. Especially with WarFace and Planetside 2 around the corner, oh and Guild Wars 2 O_O.
haha.
Going to be working and going to school quite a bit for my bachelors in finance so this should be a nice stress relief when I do get an extra hour or two in there of free time
-
Received mine Friday and I gotta say I'm pretty blown away. It's my first true high performance laptop so I don't really have a great point of reference for comparison. But the screen is amazing and the speed of the Samsung is ridiculous. No gaming yet but my stock 3DMark11 bench was 5835 which seems to be right on target with other scores. No desire to OC yet, just wish AMD would get to work on some drivers for this bad boy.
-
Yeah with drivers the 7970m could squeeze out as much power as a GTX 680m most likely. If they even give only 5% more than thats legit considering you can easily OC another 10% on stock voltage.
-
Ugh! i ordered my laptop back on the 7th and'm still waiting for a 7970 to be allocated for my order. the wait is excruciating!
I ordered : P150EM w/ : 95% Matted V.4, i7 ivy bridge 3610, IC Diamond Thermal Paste, 16 GB 1600mhz RAM, 256 Crucial M4, 750MB in the optical bay, intel ultimate N, 7970
GAAH! -
7th of June ? Rofl. I've been waiting since may 1. People are such babies. Lol. Had no desktop or gaming PC for 5 months waiting for EM series and 7970m
-
The stock 8GB of ram is two 4GB sticks, correct?
-
Finally, after two and a half months of waiting, I'm going to pick up my Pollux 1612 tomorrow at Mythlogic. I just got back from a week long vacation, and I'm facing a road trip to Michigan. What a tough life
I'm definitely excited for my upcoming week-long gaming spree. That might be commonplace for most of you guys, but the fathers/husbands amongst us know how rare an event that is. I took a subsequent week off just for gaming on my new lappy
-
LOL! Gotta love the dedication.
Yes, 2x4GB sticks. -
Has anyone swapped the display out on there P150em themself? I'm just wandereing if I could squeeze in a 3M capacitive touchscreen but need about 3mm to get the sensor in place infront of the screen. Does anyone know if there would be enough room if I modify the screen brackets?
-
Never heard of anyone putting a touchscreen but swapping out the screen is easy there are guides on line .
-
Are the stock sticks of ram in the two slots hidden by the keyboard or the two slots that are easily accessible on the bottom of the laptop?
-
How about taking the glossy bezel off! Any guides?
-
I requested mine to be installed under the keyboard. So if you are interested in that, you can just ask your reseller for whatever location you want.
-
Support.3@XOTIC PC Company Representative
Yes, standard production by Sager installs the RAM in the slots under the keyboard. The two DIMM's easily accessed through the bottom will be left open. -
Achusaysblessyou eecs geek ftw :D
Hi, I thought i'd chime in here, I know my roommate took some sandpaper to his Razer Deathadder to give it a matte feeling instead of the glossy plastic sides of it, you could try that and it woudln't actually do much damage. -
Not a bad idea. Probably going to take it off, wet/dry sand it with 1000 and spray it with fusion flat black. Just want to know how the clips are on the bezel or if its attached in some weird way.
For a minute I thought he sanded a razer blade
-
Hello owners! I'm thinking of ordering an NP9150. Could you all tell me if this is a reasonable build? I'm going to college this fall for engineering. I'll be using the laptop for photoshop, video editing, music editing, internet surfing, media viewing, and gaming.

Also... matte vs glossy? -
Your build is great; I'd say that an SSD would be better with a 500 or 750 GB drive in the ODB would be better though. A 256GB SSD is only around $200 now and the 500GB will come with your computer stock in most cases; it's a worthy upgrade in my opinion. But the 40GB cache drive does work well; although I'd buy it myself and install it myself; the resellers overcharge pretty significantly when it comes to SSDs/cache drives. And it takes about 5 minutes to install yourself lol.
-
haha the laptop that i'm using while i wait for my sager is ridiculously old and slow. my impatience is very well justified. I need this laptop for things OUTSIDE of gaming. When you start working, you'll understand. time is money.
Also in response to rishi, i agree with micah, if you can swing it, throw in a 256GB SSD. well worth it now imo. I would also consider upgrading your network card. From everything i'm reading, the extra antennae gives you much better wireless roaming signals. -
6300 intel is a good card and pretty cheap. And I do work and know that time is money. I'm a finance major also which has furthered my understanding of this very basic idea. I waited because it was cost effective and my current classes didn't require any real computer work. I will use this lappy for gaming and Photoshop. I do graphic design with my small clothing company I started with a friend. Open cl support in Cs6 and 5 should make the 7970m shine in Photoshop and illustrator
-
Can we get pictures or video of this?
-
Once I get my hands on my machine (not here yet) I will do a full DIY for those who hate (edit) the glossy bezel.
-
Had ? Do they use a flat bezel now?
-
So you got the bezel to be matted? Did you sand it or what? I'm interested in this also! I want to matte the bezel and remove the logo from the sound , THX or Onkyo logo whatever it is. I want to remove both ehhe.
-
Not yet, still waiting for my machine to come. I will probably do it the day I get it.
-
whens yours coming? mine is done being built and getting tested today and shipped tmmrw, hope dshipping takes only 2 days but it says its 2-3 day :/. hehe
-
Oh man? Yeah I have no idea when mine will be in, maybe the end of this week. Have you seen anything on the web to take off the bezel? Just want to see how it's done, hate to break a clip or something.
-
Yeah I'm not going to mess with it until someone has a failure proof way to do it
Also I see you got the Killer 1103, I want to upgrade to that or the 6300 intel.
Waiting until I have more extra cash though because for now I should be fine w/ the stock
.
And are you going to run on just the 128GB M4? That isn't very much room. I'm worried I may run out on my 256GB haha. I'm just going to buy another 256 and put it in the ODB perhaps in a few months; it will limit the speeds but still 5-10 times better than a HDD. 300mb/s is still great lol, not 500mb/s great but w.e. it will not seem that much slower most likely. That or wait for the 256gb mSata's to drop; the cheapest now is like $300 so maybe if they get down to $200 I'll cop one. -
I picked up the Killer N off of ebay a while ago. I am hoping their will be a difference, who knows though. I think I am going to use the 128 for my desktop and pick up a 256 off of amazon (I have a gift card there).
mSata would be nice as a data drive once they drop quite a bit, way too expensive now! -
Yeah the 256gb is only $180 right now. Haha.
-
I'll throw a SSD and an mSATA in mine in a year or two, but I don't need the speed at the moment. Lets hope the price continues in the southward direction.
