no, it's not necessary but it really makes the screen shine having accurate colors, kind of a necessity for those who work in photography and other fields.

I'm lost. where do we see pricing for the i7-3xxx models? Did Intel release that information somewhere?
-
you will see them on April 29th

Not really necessary for calibration. If you choose to calibrate your display, here is Sager's official recommendation on it:

Gotcha.
What's this Intel Pricing sheet that they are talking about? -
does quicksync and widi work on these models?

Tough to reply to all this at once when my multi-quote button has gone on vacation...
7970m looks tempting, but I'm going to stay the course and get the 675m. For 7970m I would need to wait another month with no computer, and with end-of-trimester coming up I can't afford that. Also, to get the extra $100 I'd need to cut something, and the only single thing that would make a big enough difference is dropping my 2nd HDD, which I need. I'm buying from mythlogic, so I can get a beefier gpu installed later at a much better price than selling my own, thanks to the upgrade plan. My original plan was to get 675m then 7990m, and I see no reason to deviate from that course. Plus, I've had a terrible gpu for so long now that I won't be able to appreciate the difference as much (and 7990m will way outperform 7970m). -
Do you have any photo from this method of calibration?
-

They should work as long as you've got the Intel GPU enabled (not using the discrete card) and WiDi in particular will require the Intel wireless card also (and the external hardware receiver as well). -
So do you think the 7990m will be supported with the stock power supply? or is there a way to upgrade the power supply to provide better stability? or is the power draw equivalent for the 7970m and the 7990? or and stock power supply sufficient "enough" as in no OC? or can you get the 220W power supply from the NP9170 to replace the stock that comes with the NP9150? or... how many or's am I allowed?

This one? Ivy Bridge mobile CPU lineup revealed
oh, i also found this
Intel announces Ivy Bridge desktop and mobile CPUs -
7990m should be 100w, no need to upgrade the power supply. It's just a better 7970m that will be released later (maybe end of summer).

So been using my 9150 here and there over the past few days, and I have seem to be having an issue with the screen. I'm not sure if it's changing the color calibration but every now and then it changes, even while plugged in.
Anyone have any suggestions to fix the issue?
I have the 95% gamut screen and the spyder 3 elite color calibrtion. -
Changes how? Do the colors change, or shapes, too? How subtle is it? And does it stay changed or does it just flicker and go back to normal?
-
The 675m is still a nice GPU and should be viable gaming card for a while. I'm kind of in the same position as you, but I've decided to wait for the 7970m. It's going to be rough going an extra month without a laptop though.
-
lol...i'm like twinturbo...been waiting too long for a new laptop like a year now...my 10 year old dell is just too old for me now =-( can't even play a decent game on it. I work night shift and up all night the night before to get used to the job, and it's been lonely and depressing w/o a laptop for gaming to keep me up all night...i'm just waiting for the ivy bridge to come out and then it's a done deal for a new beastly laptop =-)
-
the p150em has two or four ram slot ? the power supply is 180w right ?
this will can handle the quadro 3000m or 4000m i think... right ? -
4 RAM slots, 180W PSU, it'll run 3000m and 4000m just fine, we sell a bunch of them.
-
My laptop will be here by next week. So excited the only thing i am having trouble finding so far is the drivers for the gtx675m in the sager np9150. Is it using the drivers right off the nvidia website or are there better beta drivers avaliable?
-
Ok... I've been waiting and researching since dec 2010, and have researched 18 different laptops (not counting anything that will release on sunday). Can anyone beat that?

the research never stops for most gamers
Sounds like warranty time
Would this still work on the 7970? sounds like a stupid question but wasn't sure if the ATI power saving actually just downclocked or switched to the integrated Intel GPU. -
But I won't be using this to play games. Also, it's good that I waited because I didn't have as much money when I started looking, and there was only a very small (2 week) window of time when I actually could have bought what I wanted at the time without getting screwed or ripped off. Also, my old computer didn't start dying until it was too late to buy anything without having major buyer's remorse around now, mostly due to this thing's raid support and backlit keyboard.

I think you made a good choice either way. A choice made by you is better than a choice made for you.
Does anyone know what integrated memory controler is on the ivy bridge? sandy bridge is 8GB 1333... does that mean ivy is 8GB 1600...
Edit: Found answer from another post about ivy bridge that it is 1600
"The memory controller still supports up to DDR3-1600 (800 MHz I/0 clock rate). "

Every time I turn on or restart mine or even if it wakes up from sleep the screen changes its color calibration/settings. By that I mean it seems to set the custom Spyder calibration profile. I think it initially starts with the default Windows one but then it adjusts it to the custom Spyder profile that I have loaded.
I'm not sure if that is your issue? Does anybody know if it supposed to do that? -
I really don't want to send it in for warranty if this is how it is suppose to function. I will be leaving for a deployment and may not be here when the laptop is returned for warranty issues.
This is what usually happens with mine. Every now and then it will switch randomly, but it will just be just momentarily. It may be related to the optimus graphic switching. I'm sure it's software related since it only occurs during start-up and wake, and I always get the loading calibration from the spyder software.
No artifact or shapes change, just colors and hues it becomes brighter and warmer usually. -
Does anyone have any experience or know if the batteries in these have to be conditioned, fully discharged and recharged several times, to help them maintain a charge for longer?
-
It sounds like a "feature" of the Spyder software to confirm monitor color calibration is set. It sounds a bit on the shady end to make you keep the software installed. Would have thought it would make more sense to calibrate the color management on the display color management and not a full software suite... but its one way to do it I guess. Maybe by doing this it isn't really bloatware?
-

You don't have to do that. Modern batteries don't require any real maintenance. Just make sure you discharge it every month or so and it will be ok. -
Full discharges are actually bad for the battery. They should only be done if you need to calibrate it.
-
If you are nervous about battery life carry more than one. If you are regularly switching out batteries atleast you are sort of fully discharging it. Most electronics turn off well before "full" discharge though.

The old Nikel batteries had a memory effect but pretty much everything now uses Lithium ion (Li-ion) which dont have that problem.
-
Any realistic weight on the unit ? What the ads say aren't very accurate..........
-
Just got off the scale with the unit, it is 7.0 - 7.1 pounds, the power brick adds an additional 1.6 pounds. This is with the ODD caddy without an extra hard drive.
Ok, thanks for the info. My wife's older HP encountered battery issues that's why I was asking. -
Lithium ion is the beginning of the end.
-
Thanks, so so heavy

Does anybody know how accurate the scores submitted by ATI for the 7970m are? I'm just curious if I should wait the extra month or just bite the bullet and grab the GTX 675m

I really have question about the screen: does the 95% gamut matte screen cause granny text which make them hard to read. Is matte screen suitable for game and watch youtube video?
Isn't xoptic pc show the weight of unit to be around 6.8-7 pound?
((
-
the weight they show is the laptop with the battery only, not including the charger
-
no, yes and yes. The matte screen is actually preferred by most consumers instead of the glossy screen.
The weight for NP9150 is 6.83 pounds (3.1KG), but the weight differs of the components installed inside. Plus the charger is another 1.2 pounds -
the mxm module support 3.0 a and b ?
-
I have the matte 95% screen with the color calibration and it is amazing. I put it next to my wife's glossy screen and the colors are more pronounced in mine. I prefer the matte with mobile options since you can't control the lighting everywhere you go.

Yeah, it's a beast. Especially since I was originally going to get a Clevo W110ER (4lbs.) but once I saw the 7970M benches I had to eat the extra 3-4lbs. of weight. The added performance/expansion capabilities/better screen should make it worth it.
-
I think the 7970 is 3.0c. so should be a c.
Anyone know if the NP9150 supports?:
Intel® Virtualization Technology (Intel® VT) for Directed I/O (Intel® VT-d)ports
Hoping it will have this: Intel® Core? i7-3612QM Processor (6M Cache, up to 3.10 GHz) BGA -
^ yes that CPU certainly does
-
lol, I meant if the MB on the NP9150 supports it. I know the processor does. wasn't sure if there is a MB dependency on that feature. Sometimes MBs are quirky about not supporting all processor features.
-
^ didn't know there's a mobo dependency.
-
Might not be specificly controlled and could very well be a moot point. But just confirmed as I plan to run lots of VMs on this little box.
-
Mythlogic told me the 3612QM is not available on the P150EM - but the 3610QM is. They appear to be very similar (other than TDP, slightly faster). I ordered mine with the 3610QM.
3610QM @ Intel:
http://ark.intel.com/products/64899/Intel-Core-i7-3610QM-Processor-(6M-Cache-up-to-3_30-GHz) -
Can somebody tell me if the this thing can turn off the 7970m when not gaming?
-
I was hoping to order with the 3612QM but I guess if that's true then its out of the question now. 10 TDP isn't likely to make it that much hotter anyway even with the faster clocks so it's still win/lose kinda situation.
