Well, there is lots of stuff out there, you can go with iBasso stuff (D2+/D4/D6/D7), Fiio stuff, the JDS C421 + ODAC, etc.

Has anyone ever put a touchscreen in the p150em? I believe it's possible, but you need to connect the controller to a usb-port, I tried opening up the p150em but I couldn't get very far :(
    anyone any ideas?

did you try it on the np9150 without using the headphones or external speakers? and did it make a huge difference on the headphones sound, too? because I wanted to buy it but someone here did not recommend it for the sager np9150 and thanks.

A USB sound card should work basically the same on every computer.

Are you sure cos I read somewhere here that someone had the xifi 5.1 and used it in his np9150 but he did not notice a sound improvement so he is using it with his other laptop (Asus I think), I am really new at these stuff so bare with me alittle bit, does the Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Surround 5.1 Pro improve the sound of the laptop without an output (headphones/external speaker), I want someone who tried it in his/her sager np9150/9170 cause I read some mix answers and thanks.

I asked about this in a thread lmao. The Creative Soundblaster is a sound card and only improves the sound on external outputs like headphones and speakers. So the on board sound and speakers do not get improved.

    Edit: You're welcome :)

For some reason, I haven't been able to find the fingerprint software...do I have to install it from a disk? If not, where is it located?

I was playing Skyrim today and noticed something. When I look at a high contrast bright objects and then quickly move the camera, the objects leaves a purple imprint that moves with the camera (well, the imprint stays on the same spot of the screen where the object was before...) and soon after disappears. Is this normal? I guess it's some kind of a blur, artifact. Google doesn't turn up anything useful about this specifically. I noticed this with moving the mouse as well earlier. When I move the mouse quickly on a dark background, a purple imprint of it will stay there for a moment. Almost looks like a burn-in. What am I actually seeing?

Wow that's so weird! The same exact thing happens to me but with my actual eyes!!! Like, if I look at the sun, or a lightbulb, then I look away, I'll have a purple image of it floating in the middle of my vision! LOL. For those who have ever wondered, such visual effects are called phosphenes.

Anyway, in all seriousness, do you have the 95% Gamut screen? I've heard some people say that it can have that effect, especially if not calibrated.

Notebookreview.com cannot be held liable for any attempts to look at the sun. Please do not look at the sun.

Skyrim has some weird effects. I think the brightness adjustment built into the game is a little strong, but what you are explaining isn't that. That is quite bizarre.

Hah, it might be normal for eyes, but I never noticed a screen do it. Sorry for trying to explain the effect without the knowledge of the word "phosphenes". Atleast next time I'll know.

Anyway, I have the regular glossy screen. So should this be considered a defect, or just ignored?

It's probably not the GPU, as noone else has experienced this so far.

Including the scratches, am I just really unlucky when it comes to the LCD? :D

Hey guys, has there been any updates on the amd 7970m drivers? Specifically for Battlefield 3? Remember how enduro was screwing up the performance? Or where could I go to see if there was some sort of confirmation that amd knows about this problem?

I posted a while back how unstable the fps was on bf3, and people said amd knew about the problem. Was just wondering where I could see that they conformed that they knew about it.

Do you have a custom unlocked BIOS? If so where did you get it from and what options have been added? Thanks

Yes I have one in... It's the single touch resistive flexible type of ebay. Was a pain in the back side to route the cables through the notebook but it works pretty well. I'd have preffered a 2 touch capacitive overlay but the addition of 3mm glass was a no go. The down side is that light transmition is reduced by over 12% and external light reflects of the matte surface of the touch screen. The USB I routed out of the side of the notebook and into the USB 2.0 port as a sort of permanent fixture. The controller is hidden in the underside of the notebook inside the removable panel. If you are not comfortable with working around expensive electronics or can't solder very fine spliced cables (only way to route the cables) then I'd not advise the risk.

Not the most exciting video but you get the idea... the pic shows the USB connector.

Install the software off the installation disk that came with the machine...

Go to following link and download the latest TrueSuite Trial for 32bit or 64bit as required. I just loaded it over the top of the existing TrueSuite and it now works with Firefox 13... would appear to be fully licensed. Not sure if it can be loaded without the Clevo version first:

Is there any sign of software for overclocking Ivy Bridge mobile processors yet? My search this morning on google was not very fruitful.

You can overclock on the P150EM using the P170EM BIOS and a 37x0QM, 38x0QM or 39x0XM CPU.

Is this a definite? I have the i7 3720qm processor but I'm not wanting to flash the BIOS with a non 100% compatible BIOS as that could be terminal. Do you know if the P170EM BIOS is P150EM fully compatible and are there any systems that are dissabled by doing this? Thanks

Well, that was fast! My vertex 4 turned its toes to the daises. My Vertex 4 has died :( I am calling newegg right now to get it replaced. I was really hoping I would get lucky and not have any problems with it, but oh well. At least I didn't really loose anything important, all of my data is well backed up. This is more of an annoyance than anything else :/ Back to my trusty 128GB C300 for the time being.

is it possible to remove optical drive and place the hdd in there and make ssd into primary without worrying about overheating issues or anything like that?

also, [assuming optical drive is removed and replaced by hdd] can i get some sort of usb cable -> sata that will let me plug into the optical drive and let me use it whenever w/o problems?

sry, im not too knowledgeable with computers.

I was a luck OCZ buyer. Whew. The horror stories are true sadly enough. My friend had to go through two broken drives before they upgraded him to a working OCZ Octane.

    Good luck!

Yes to both, you can buy an enclosure for the cdrom (or just buy an external slim usb cdrom as they are pretty cheap). Then get a hdd caddy for the cdrom bay and put your hd in there.

So I just ordered my NP9150 last night (yay!), with the 500 GB hybrid HDD and a 180 GB SSD in the optical drive bay. I plan on installing the OS and programs on the SSD, but is there any difference in speeds for the two ports? If so, could I switch them around?

    Code:
Optical Drive Bay Hard Drive Caddy No Extra Optical Bay Hard Drive Caddy
Optical Drive Bay 180gb Intel 520 Series Solid State Drive (SSD2 Serial-ATA III) in Optical Bay (SKU - S7R069)
    Primary Hard Drive FREE! - 500gb (w/ 4GB SSD Memory) Seagate XT 7200RPM NCQ Hybrid (Serial-ATA II 300 - 32MB Cache) (SKU - S5R413)
mSATA SSD Drive ( Slot 1 ) No mSATA SSD

Yeah, put the hybrid drive in the optical bay, and the ssd inside as the optical bay only does sata II while internal is sata III.

I considered the MSI GT60, but I hate that laptop's look and can't imagine that Dynaudio speakers would be the difference between an RMA and gaming peacefully, so I'm leaning toward the np9150 again. What's the issue with that model's audio? Distortion, lack of volume? Are there any solutions for the laptop's onboard sound quality? (I don't use headphones.)

some units suffer from big distortion, but generally speaking lack of volume and bass and the quility is not that good, and there is not a huge difference between gt 60 and np9150 sound quility but the msi is slightly better, if you do not wanna use headphones then I recommend a sound card+external speaker, but you shouldnt worry much if you are not an audiophile as the sound in np9150 is livable

Just got my Sager 9150 from xotic pc yesterday, after owning a macbook 2007 for 5 years. It's smooth running and not that bad in gaming so far. My question is how do you get Games running on the 7970m instead of the Intel 4000HD? I tried running Shogun 2 but the options said I was running on the Intel 4000 instead of the 7970m. Is there some preference I am missing?

Hey guys ive had my 9150 with a 7970m for about a month or two now and ive been getting into some pretty intensive games (metro, witcher 2, revelations, dead island, etc.) and ive been noticing my keyboard getting really hot. to the point where i have to take my fingers away and blow on it at every load screen because it gets uncomfortable. Anyone else have this problem? and fixes for it? Ive tried the old fn+1 and that doesnt seem to help

Edit: I have a single fan cooling pad under it at all times if that makes any difference

Hah, someone at Sager needs to learn to not overtighten scews, or stop going haywire with the electrical screwdriver. As if the stripped screw on the back panel weren't enough.

I went for a repaste and didn't notice that the 4th screw on the CPU had been stripped as well until I had the other 3 loose, which lifted the heatsink on one side. So now the factory paste is all messed up and the CPU is cooking. I have to get that 4th screw out somehow though, don't wanna fry my CPU.

The GPU heatsink screws on the other hand look undamaged, but wow. I can't get these things to move at all. My warn screwdriver doesn't help either, so I have to wait for an electronics screwdriver kit to arrive from Hong Kong to do my paste, haha. Someone at Sager really wanted to seal this thing shut, I guess. :D

Make sure the fan in the pad is blowning up into the underside of the notebook assisting the fan in the notebook and not sucking air away from it.

I know that I love good quality rich clean sounding music, but it's so lacking in mid bass and bass that I don't think that anyone could listen to a whole album on it and not be dissapointed!

GO RED WINGS! There is something wrong. Nothing even remotely hot under the keyboard. Have you checked the CPU/GPU temps? Sounds like a misplaced heatsink and/or paste job. Or it could be your RAM is running really hot because two of the RAM chips sit directly under the keyboard as does the wi-fi card. You might want to reseat the RAM chips or end up buying new RAM.

Oh man that sucks. I noticed that too. They need to change the torque on their screwdrivers. I almost stripped one of the screws that held down the keyboard, and couldn't even get the plastic bracket (if you want to call it that) off the 500GB HDD that came with the system because the screw was so tight. Thankfully that bracket isn't really needed.

But for the CPU heatsink, that's not good. I'm thinking you'll need to get that fixed by them unfortunately. At least I would.

Hello everyone. I just recently ordered the NP9150 with the 3610QM processor but I was thinking that in the future I may want to upgrade it seeing as you can do so on a sager without voiding your warranty. I do not know much about processor compatibility so I was wondering which processors are compatible with the NP9150 that would be worth upgrading to in a couple years (maybe an intel extreme processor) or if it is safe to assume that the latest processors in a couple years time will be compatible. Thanks!

I can't wait to get the computer, the anticipation is making every work day drag on so much.... :p
