Rated thickness? you should probably look into getting a sleeve for your notebook before you put it in your bag if you are worried about that. Stretch is not the goal I don't think. Possible look for a bag that is for something bigger than your laptop then put in sleeve then put in bag. Sleeves recommended on other forums are the 17inch for easy removal. For protection you can pack less to put less pressure on laptop and not throw your bag on the ground to test protection as thickness of padding won't mater. If you do go with a bag that supports a bigger laptop you may want to look into having something to hold it in the bag slot incase it may fall out of place. The extra space may add comfort that it has some give to the form factor instead of cramming it in. This strap to hold in place only applied if your bag may be sideways or upside down, which might be a rare case that you don't care for. There are lots of bags out there but is a heavy dependency on where you are taking it (like air, or school, or work) and what you are putting in it (like extra cloths, books, notepads, power supply, nothing else, or lots of electronics).

What's the battery life on the 9130 like?
Also how's Optimus been working on the gaming front? I know it can be glitchy. -
I would also like to know as well. This is a huge factor in my purchase since I have no issues saving money now and then adding the keyboard in later when I get more funds.
-
From everything I've heard, the P151EM lacks one of the connectors necessary to control and power the lights on a keyboard. While it's probably possible to hack one in, it would be difficult - it's not like you could just buy a backlit keyboard and swap it in.
-
The keyboard is a different size, and the topcase that the keyboard goes into is a different size, so it won't work. Also the motherboard is missing the connector to power the LED's and the keyboard controller (EC) is only programmed for the non backlit keyboard so the keys wouldn't work
See above for further technical reasoning why it won't work =) -
Going to buy one
-
I bought one from Xotic PC w. IVB. I hope it turns out well, i'm pretty pumped.
-
This thread is pretty much dead people
I guess no one has a p151em on their hands to provide feedback. -
I think this is the model I'm going to buy. Deciding between this and the new Asus N56.
-
I have one, its great.

Is there any chance of you writing a review of it so that the rest of us can know why it's great?
-
Yeah, I subscribe this. It would really help many people that are on the fence.
How's the build quality, the temperatures, etc -
Sure I can possibly get one up tonite. I have the following hardware:
Core i7 2670QM
HM77
GTX670M
Corsair 90GB Force 3 SSD
Been thinking of doing the exchange for a IB one, but I really have heard mixed feelings about the new 3610QM. As far as temps go, they are higher than I liked, I tend to idle around 44C to about 50C depending on what I am doing. -
Did you get the upgraded thermal compound? Mine just started production from Xotic PC. I'm pretty excited, not gonna lie. I've been building my own desktops for years. This is my first laptop purchase.
-
Nope, not worth the $35 price hike for improperly applied IC Diamond. I put HT-N1 on it when I got it.
-
I recently ordered the NP9130 and would appreciate any Videos you upload. I just had XoticPC put on some Diamond thermal past. I wouldn't trust myself with opening the laptop up to do the deed.
-
It's actually quite simple.
-
Can you elaborate? Or is there a tutorial elsewhere?
THANKS... I just order this model and I didn't get that option. -
O look, a wild 660m appears on the configurators
/me wonders off -
Shiny! Any reason to get the 660m over the 670m, especially considering they are the same price? (the only reasons I can think of are lower power consumption, and the nerd-badge for having a keplar GPU
)

I would go for the 660m. It has a slightly faster clock speed and not much of a performance decrease. The 670m is showing about 10% better performance but the 660m is supposed to run significantly cooler as well as draw less battery power when unplugged. Though, there is never really a reason to be using the dedicated graphics card while unplugged. -
I had seen those links, but thanks for reminding me. Although I agree that gaming on the battery doesn't make a whole lot of sense, I just don't know why it would be a good idea to pay the exact same price for what looks to be less performance.
Maybe I'll have to wait for some TDP and in-game min/max FPS info on the 660m before I pass any judgement. -
Just ordered my 9130 on 4/30/12 with Ivy Bridge (from XOTIC PC). Went into Production 5/2/12, will post up impressions upon arrival. Pretty Excited.
Shipped 5/9, should have it in my hands by Monday -
Sweet! Ya mine when into production today! (5/07/12) I will post some goodies as well when mine arrives
-
Just ordered mine a few minutes ago. Can't wait to get it! I'll post some pictures and thoughts when the laptop arrives
-
im thinking about getting this baby over the np6165
with the setup im looking at it will only be 140$ more than the 6165! is the difference between the gpu worth it? -
My NP9130 from Gentech PC will be arriving at my doorstep soon, can't wait!
@qOcOp: It depends on what you will be using it for, personally, I'd say go for it, since the performance gains from a 650M to a 670M is really significant -
is 95% NTSC Color Gamut really worth its 100$?
ta. -
worth is relative to what you value and application and is repeated these forums do a little more searching... If you need color it is good, but if all you do is game they say not worth it. Matte vs glossy is relative to personal preference also. Many prefer Matte, but the glossy is just as good if you play in the dark a lot. Glossy oversaturation of color vs dull color of matte, your eyes determine what is acceptable.
-
I'd go for it. The 670m is significantly more powerful than the 650m.
-
Any computer on XoticPC's (and other sites) list is better than what I used to have. After not owning any sort of PC for 6-7 years so far, jumping to the NP9130 with its GTX 670m is an amazing upgrade were my PC living today with basic Intel GMA, 1GB RAM, and 38GB hard drive.
Looking at the reviews for the GTX 670m assures me that it will survive my upcoming 4-year college life and perhaps more if I clean it with more than optimal performance.
I can't wait to get mine soon at all. It's going to feel weird having a PC stronger (and less buggy) than my PS3. -
I used to be in the same position in you, then I got a desktop and sold my xbox 360 and ps3.
I'm in college so I ordered this laptop for work and gaming on the go.
It is very likely you won't come back to consoles when you have a versatile solution for work and gaming altogether. I know I didn't.
Hope you enjoy your purchase. -
my understanding is that I can get an Ivy Bridge laptop now. is that so?
and by the way, those of you who already have it, would you mind sharing your first impressions? -
That is correct, Ivy Bridge processors are now available and you should be able to get them in the NP9130.
-
Ordered a Sager NP 9130 a few days before IB was released..Thank god it takes time to build these laptops. The delay allowed me to upgrade to Ivy Bridge 3610. 16GB memory, 750GB Hard Drive. I purchased a OCZ Nocti 120GB mSata from NewEgg, cant wait to install it. I got the upgraded 95% gamut gloss display. I wanted to get the Carbon Fiber wrap, but i ordered it from an online store and will customize my laptop on my own. Lets go Xotic PC, and your slick way of getting around California Tax!!!! BANG!!!!
-
Ya I live in cali and get to take advantage of this loop hole aswell. I heard they do it by first shipping the items to their Nebraska branch, and then to Cali. Or something along those lines.
-
Does Nebraska have State Tax? IDK..All i know is that i pondered paying the Tax for a sec, then did the math....I figured another week or 2 for delivery time is worth $130. Patience is a Virtue, and it pays off here with these Sager Laptops.
Wanna know what sucks though, The "BRAND NEW" Intel HM77 mSata port doesnt support Sata 6Gbps....That just sucks, but the regular Sata connector supports Sata 6Gbps. It doesnt really make sense to me why the chipset is limited this way. I really wish i it was the fast interface! Thats the only thing thats bugging me about the laptop at the moment though. Mine should arrive by next week. Can't wait!!! -
By my understanding, the primary HDD slot is SATA 6Gbps, while the ODD is SATA 3Gbps. Has there been a change?
-
So i went ahead got finally got it, should be coming in next week or week after next
-

If the place you purchase from does not have an entity in your state then you do not pay tax, at that time. Legally though you are supposed to claim it when you file your yearly taxes. So make sure you do!
-
What is the weight of the package presuming it's laptop only?
-
UPS Tracking has my 9130 box listed as 16lbs.
-
Anyone have any idea how to disable HT on a NP9130? I can't seem to figure it out.
-
Wow! That must be a lot of packing peanuts in there
-
Yes, HDD is SATA III and ODD is SATA II.
-
I'm probably going to order one of these next week or the week after... I'm curious to know if I should grab the 660 or the 670. I play mainly SC2/mass effect 3/skyrim/borderlands and would like the gfx to be as high as possible. I'll normally be plugged in, but i'll probably also end up sitting on my for 5-6 hours at a time playing games. Is the performance hit worth the better thermal characteristics/efficiency?
-
Mine is 14.4lbs from GenTech PC and includes an additional ODD caddy
-
Anyone receive theirs yet and what is battery life like on these machines?
-
If your going to be plugged in all/most of the time, I'd go with the 670. If battery life is a concern, go with the 660. The difference in performance is somewhere between 15 ~ 20% according to Notebookcheck, but most of the games you listed should run just fine on a 660 @ medium/high details.
