Well I have no idea what I just did but I seem to have mashed together the 9.4.3.7 drivers from Sagers website and 8.5.2.2R2 that I downloaded from MSI. Whatever the hell I did the touchpad seems to be working quite nicely now.
Edit: Never mind. The problem is still there and worse than ever. I have a feeling I will be returning this in favor of a P150SM by Mythlogic and its not-utterly-unacceptable Synaptics touch pad. This is ridiculous for a 2400$ machine. No hate for Xotic or anything, you guys rock! Sentelic on the other hand, does not. -end rant-

-
Anyone else having utilization issues with Metro Last Light (780M)?
Even without overclocking it throttles down. -
Is there a hotkey to switch between the GPU's without having to go into FN-ESC?
-
Well after doing some research I've decided to return my NP8250. Nothing against you Xotic but Clevo, please never use a Selentic touch pad EVER again. I am going to be sticking with Clevo, but in the form of a P150SM from Mythlogic with identical specs. Again, sorry Xotic, if Sager carried the P150SM I would buy from you again in a heart beat.
-
I think that game is CPU limited a little, so thats why it downclocks.. New drivers from nVIDIA should help that..
-
Clevo's website lists the P150sm as 376 (W)x256 (D)x35~43 (H)mm (14.8 x 10.08 x 1.38-1.69in) and the P157sm as 375 (W) x 268 (D) x 22~45 (H)mm (14.76 x 10.55 x .87-1.77in).
Is this a typo because from the pictures it looks like the P157sm is the same thickness all around. Does anyone have pictures of both laptops side by side? -
This is the P157SM. The P150SM probably doesn't have that slope and keeps a fairly rectangular shape. -
It's really severe though.
It went from say 50 FPS to 15 FPS and stayed that way. -
Huh just with that game huh? Yea I would try the 320's from nV's site.
-
Evil Penguin, what are your temps? It may throttle because of this
-
Less than 75c with heavy load games.
If I go into the menu while the FPS is around 20, it shoots back up to 50.
Then I go back in-game and it rapidly goes back down to 20. -
try using the latest BETA drivers from Nvidia!
-
I have, clean installations of the latest stable and beta drivers.
I haven't tried the 320.xx drivers though.
Here are a few pics:
-
I think I narrowed down the problem...
PhysX is not playing nicely with this game.
Whenever I disable it (in-game), the GPU utilization shoots back up and the FPS is stable. -
I think 75C is strange, because its so low... I have the Mythlogic Pollux 1613 (p150SM) with almost exactly the same specs, and when the 780M GTX is under full load on my system it can reach 90 C after a while of gaming, but the framerates are great..
I have re-applied thermal paste so I made sure everything is contacting properly.
I guess maybe something is throttling your card, because if it was running at full load I would expect it to be creating much more heat... -
So far Metro Last Light has been performing really well.
Temps are no higher than 80c (usually around 74-76c) and the core clock of the 780M is 901 MHz. -
Glad you got it solved, sneaky Physx
-
Thanks a lot man sorry I took so long to respond

Hi guys, finally found out the cause of my BSODs!
Previously on my posts, I thought that the drivers from Sager were the culprit but it's not. The system is unstable if I have 12 GB of ram. Have you guys encountered this one before? The RAM is definitely
good as I tried to run memtest86+ on it for the whole night. For now I reverted back to 8 GB.
Any tips to solve this one? -
Get another 8GB stick, or trash all of the RAM and get a shiny new 16GB (2x8GB) set.
-
Hmm. I don't want to waste the 3 x 4GB ram that I have.
Question, if I bought another 1 x 4GB ram, do you think the BSOD problem will go away?
-
I thought you had 1 8GB stick and 1 4GB stick...? Sure go try that.
-
Probably best to make sure same brand/timings too...
I got lucky with mine, came with 2x8GB 1600 Patriot and I ordered a 2nd pair from amazon which turned out to be identical, so it might just be finicky possibly about multiple timings...
About to find out about that with my desktop, as my 32GB corsairs(4x8) aren't quite the same timings as the first set... but they'll be a separate quad channel so hopefully that will mitigate any potential problems... -
Yes, I have exactly the same brand/timings. If I go and check via CPU-Z, all memory slots display the same information except for the serial numbers.
-
You know, one of the things that I've always wondered but never investigated is IF the RAM timings were all set to most common denominator by BIOS... i.e. I'm still not even quite positive about the Patriot RAM but the hw sniffing is same part #, but I can't help but wonder on prior setups if the BIOS just didn't end up defaulting to "closest" match or something, which I can see happening...
Unfortunately can't exp. with the 7330 as I maxxed current mem already, and have no other DDR3 SODIMMs to experiment with anyways... -
That issue above is why we don't offer odd number of SODIMMS on our configs for the P-series.. Because half the time it just doesn't work right =)
-
Quick question; How do I load up and activate the Clevo Control Panel on my 157 in win8?
-
hi I installed win7 64bit, I dowbloaded all drivers and software for the p150sm from the clevo page, which is all for win 8. I remember that someone wrote here it all can be used also for win7 except the hotkey software and one other driver or software. does anyone remember which it was? because these two they wrote should be dedicated win7 versiob installed, which can be found somewhere on the sager homepage
-
Just download the Window 7 versions of the drivers. Most of the Windows 8 drivers should work, but some may not.
His BSODs were not caused by drivers. -
so just using all the sager win7 drivers and I am fine?
-
Pretty sure.
-
That's all I did when I installed win7 x64 pro fresh on the new ssd. Actually the only "newer" driver on the sager site v. driver dvd was the hotkey app which I still haven't gotten around to updating yet(apparently have to uninstall it completely first then install new version as installing over the existing version fails...)
I also recall that at the time(a few weeks) back that I checked a variety of the mfg drivers and they were all the latest versions that I could find(released). I AM using the nvidia 320.49 video driver though...
NOTE: I USED the win7 versions of the drivers. Originally I thought of experimenting with the win8 versions, and think that I may have even asked about it here, but since win7 versions were available used those. -
ok well I have cash burning a hole in my pocket for over a week now and I am out for a new laptop... I am down to two models and have about $350 from the base price for upgrades/extras.
I am looking at the P157SM and also the MSI GT60 2OC-022US
the P157SM caught my eye because of the advertised GPU upgrade ability. With what I just read you basically threw a brick at me (and quite possibly others) and hit me smack dab in the forehead lol.
minus that... could you tell me then why I should purchase the P157SM over the GT60 20C ?
because from what I have been reading here I am getting a little bit nervous about putting my money on a laptop which seems to have driver problems, iffy support and questionable updated which appear not to be coming from a team of engineers.
I don't mind the 770m GPU over the 780m which the GT60-2OC has... so besides that what advantages do I have if I go with the P157SM?
thanks alot for any responses, I've nearly burned all my brains transistors out over the past 8 days or so... numbers and call signs and tech stuff is just swirling around so much I am dizzy and can't add up the differences myself anymore ha! -

We're you going to send us a windows key to use so we can install the OS?
thanks! -
Here's what I have learned from experience. None of these laptop manufacturers guarantee upgrade ability to the next generation of GPUs. If you're looking solely at upgrade capability in a system as the basis for your choice, you are taking a big risk. You need to purchase a system that is best suited for the CPUs/GPUs available right at this moment and focus on other characteristics like cooling, emissions, comfort, ease of use, aesthetics, customizable features, etc. Upgrade support for processor components between manufacturers is a lot more frustrating compared to desktops. Now, having said that, Clevo builders such as Sager, Mythologic, etc., might be a good choice in that you will have the luxury of an experienced modding community. Folks, such as Prema, take it upon themselves to tweak bios and firmware in an attempt resolve issues when it's related to software compatibility. Many manufacturers unfortunately tend to drop the ball on maintaining software/firmware compatibility with future GPUs -- moving on from yesteryear's model laptop versus the next generation of processor. If, for example, Maxwell comes out in 2014 or 2015, and you find that your P157SM has the hardware capability, but not the bios and firmware capability, can you be guaranteed that Clevo will focus on bringing yesteryear models in line to support it? No. However, can you be guaranteed that MSI, Lenovo, Alienware, etc., are going to dedicate resources to optimize a 3, 2 or even 1 year old model to support that new generation chip? That's also a no. However, if you do your research, you might find there is a community behind some of these brands who will find a way to make it work -- that is if it's even possible. Clevos are promising in that regard. But even after a year of ownership, if you're going to get the latest and greatest GPU, regardless of what brand you purchase today, the likelihood of having to buy an entirely new system is great. So best advise? Buy the laptop and GPU that is the best and most cost effective solution for you today and not for what new GPU comes in 2014 through 2016. Make sure the combo will be sufficient and practical enough to handle what you need for at least 2-3 years. Otherwise, if you're wanting the latest and greatest GPU every year, you're probably facing a new system purchase every year.
-
I wasn't planning on sending over a Windows key, did you guys need it? I usually just image my computers myself lol. The only legit copies of Windows that I have are a Windows XP full version and a 7 Home Premium Upgrade disk anyway. I tried to spec it identically to the 157 I returned to Xotic. II opted for the Intel 7620 instead of the killer card though.
I was curious to know how much of a performance boost that 4x4GB 1800MHz ram would make though compared to the 2x8GB 1600MHz set though. Think I also opted for no branding too, I have an Aperture Laboratories logo I was going to stick on at some point.
Anything else special I should consider? -
I just got in my 157SM w/ 4800mq. and 780m. Haven't played with it much except a little at work between work. Is it just me or is it really difficult to find the optimus/discrete graphics setting. I haven't played with a laptop since the M15x I sold last spring.

Received the updated BIOS and EC from Sagar. Those who want it can PM me their email.
=Jason- -
I'm having some trouble with flashing the new BIOS and EC for the NP8250 (825ec05 and 825bv06LS1) which I got through Xoticpc.
I followed the instructions here to create a bootable flash drive and I extracted the files of each archive into separate folders and left them in the flash driver's root.
However when I try to boot the flashdrive after using the boot menu (F7), I get the error ">>checking media presence... >>no media present" before it just boots into Windows.
Does anyone have any luck with flashing the new bios? I'm using Windows 8 64-bit.
Updated:
Needed to disable UEFI in bios to allow the usb to be booted from. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Are you sure you made the USB stick UEFI bootable?
-
when you flash to the latest EC05 make sure to install the latest HOTKEY app driver form SAGER's website in order for KB lighting to function properly
-
is there any way i can get a hand on the new bios and ec for the p150sm?
-
I'm on EC 1.05 and Bios 1.06. I noticed the keyboard/touchpad backlights are only all on or all off. I saw someone in an earlier post mention about the updated EC/Bios that you can toggle the touchpad light indepedently.
Is there any downloads for the updated EC/Bios out? I didn't see any on Sagers site. If it matters, the machine was purchased from Xotic. -
Support.1@XOTIC PC Company Representative
They actually ask that you contact them directly for those files. Shoot a message to [email protected] and give them your model and serial number as well as tell them that you're looking for those files. I shot them an email yesterday about getting them for you guys and I heard that they had started sending them back out again so shouldn't be an issue to get anymore. -
Awesome. Thanks!

Hey guys, quick question. How do I set the memory timings for the P150SM? I couldn't find it in the BIOS settings.
-
For now the P150SM bios is locked when it comes to ram control, maybe Prema will be able to fix that. But seeing that the P-series bios is more locked down than the W-series it might not work. I'm using Thaiphoon burner to change ram timings, the new timings works fine in my W110ER but in the P150SM the bios reverts the ram timings back to normal values.
-
Why is Clevo so interested in locking down their BIOS?
-
Thought the same thing, same story with "the P150SM and the P170SM are equal" which is some sort of untrue cause why is TDP changing in XTU possible with the 170SM but not with the 150SM? Please don't say it's due to the 180W PSU lol
