Which model do you have? Did you buy the versionnwith the fixed mSATA port? Have you tried the other mSATA port?
-
Somebody has some information about the HDCP HDMI port in the laptop ?
-
Gaming at a table is definitely a good idea, but it's still good to couch game at times
That does look like an awesome cooler. I've currently got a Targus cooler which works quite well, though it's probably not as good as that one as it only has two fans which can't be moved around, but it is very comfortable to use on a lap, helps spread the weight a lot and is has a bit of cushioning on it. When that dies I'll probably look into buying that Notepal
-
who knows about any discounts on friday and monday?
-
Ah I see mate, yeah the Notepal U3 isnt really comfortable to use on your lap. First of all that metal frame is quite bulky and huge, and second its not comfortable to have on your knees (I've tried it!). Starts cutting into your legs, especially if the laptop weighs a lot.
In terms of cooling though, its amazing and pretty much renowned all of the net for being the best customizable cooler you can get. I'm even planning to get 3 extra fans for it to cool my beast of a P370SM that I've got coming this week. xD -
I am not impressed by those notebook coolers. After all, they don't force air in, they create more turbolance which may reduce internal airflow, and they have a negliable impact for the outside of the notebook. I think just increasing the gap under the notebook, i.e. raising the back, and making sure the fans and vents are not blocked is best.
-
Check the black friday thread in the main section for Clevo/Sager.
-
You probably never had a good one.
A few of them work really well, especially at forcing cool air into the bottom vents. The ones with movable fans are the best though!
-
Well, when you get your notebook, please test it flat, raised back, and with a cooler. Stress test with something like furmark for half an hour. Maybe the Clevo will see an improvement with the cooler. But I hope it doesn't, since that implies bad design. It should be designed to properly cool while flat on a table.
-
Hi, I am having issues with my P170SM with the 8970 and the 4800, playing world of tanks. The game runs great but i am unable to enable shadows. If someone that plays the game and has the 8970, could you please test the game to see if you have the same issue.
-
Support.1@XOTIC PC Company Representative
When you say that you're unable to enable shadows, does that mean the option isn't able to be selected or are you experiencing gameplay issues when you do select the option? -
Right, well one thing... I never said it shouldn't work properly while standing flat on the table I simply said that the cooler simply helps the air flow get in through the vents at the bottom. One because most of them have a raised profile, and two because the fans force air into the vents.
Simples.
-
From my experience the laptop cooler has definitely helped reduce the temperature in my x7200, not significantly but enough to stop me worrying about it on hot summer days. Even if it's not plugged in, it helps tremendously when using a laptop on your lap, stopping it from heating up your legs, as well as if, like me, you have to put it on the floor when you plug it into the TV, which stops the carpet from obstructing the vents. I very rarely need to use the cooler when the laptop's on a desk or table, only on the aforementioned hot summer days
-
You should not use these notebooks on your lap, bed, or carpet, etc. In fact they no longer call them laptops for this reason. When I want to use it under these conditions, I use a flat board I made. I just cut some MDF, I got from the hardware store, to the right size.
geko95gek, I know you didn't say it won't work fine without it. Just wondering how helpful the cooler actually will be with what ever model you end up getting. I prefer real world testing over marketing hype. Not to mention every notebook is different, so some benefit more than others. -
What you say about the usage is true, the best environment for a notebook is a table... preferably glass so it keeps it cool.
I've got the P370SM on order as per my signature, and I have a Notepal U3 cooler with 3 movable fans so I can position the airflow where it counts. I should have the notebook on friday, and I will definitely report how it works on the notebook cooler. I'm even thinking of getting another 3 fans to put on it lol, talk about overkill -
Exactly, hence using a laptop cooler in those situations. It keeps it raised and the vents free from obstruction. Also the holes in the cooler probably helps with the airflow compared to a plank of mdf

I am getting ready to order the NP8275-S. I prefer not having the tribal touchpad, and I think the touchpad is better than the NP8295. I will order a seperate SSD and put it in myself. I really want the 1TB 7200 HDD, but I don't see it listed. Other specs would be i7-4800mq, 780M, 16GB ram, bluray burner, optical tray for future use, and Windows 8.
-
Today, 11/30/2013, I ordered a NP8275-S from LPC-Digital. I did a wire transfer to get the cash discount, and to speed it along, no rush delivery though. Below are my order details.

Yes, that does help. Seems I missed some, but maybe they will pop back on Cyber Monday. Thanks.

Since this thread is slow, and people really want to know (ha). I will update my order process.
Ordered a NP8275-S on
Nov. 30, 2013, Saturday (Did wire transfer, emailed proof to LPC Digital, although wire xfer will not process until Monday)
Dec 2nd, 2013 Monday. Order shows it was sent to factory for build. (First business day, 3rd day) -
Added latest stock BIOS & EC for this model to my blog (follow my signature)!
It's a simple one step flash method and fixes the 8970M UEFI mode black screen issue.
ENJOY!

Hey guys, I just saw this model today, as I'm interested in the 4700MQ + 780M combo.
I'm considering both the P170SM and the MSI 1763 barebones.
It seems like I can get them mostly to be the same spec, with the exception that the MSI is a bit cheaper ($1588 on GenTech compared to $1688). But reading some reviews it definitely seems like the Sager has the better cooling and maybe better build quality.
What would you guys suggest? What is the best reseller to get this from (i'm from California).
Thanks. -
I believe I read the Sager was quieter and cooler. Try a google search for lpc digital.

It really depends on which one offers what you're looking for. Biggest differences you'll likely notices is that the MSI barebones won't have the customizable backlit keyboard, also lacks the GPU upgrade potential down the road, and will have the superior sound quality. Sager does have a bit more solid build in my opinion, but the MSI will not fall apart in your hands either.
Reseller depends on who meets your needs best. Feel free to call around and test the waters. One thing to keep in mind is California sales tax if the reseller is located in Cali it's required to charge you up front for that. Anybody located outside of Cali won't charge you up front, but still something you're responsible for come year end. -
Yeah I've seen a few people get it from there, and it would be nice because no taxes since I'm from California.
-
I am also in California... They had the best price with a small discount, I also paid in cash for that discount as well. Now I am just waiting for delivery.
-
How long does it take from cash payment to receiving it, do you happen to know? -
Anyone here have any experience on the P177SM with a glossy screen covered by an anti-glare film? Does the display match just a matte screen?
-
Finally got my hands on my P170SM today and it's amazing! I'm really impressed with it. It's lighter than I expected, I turned it on and it was practically silent and it stayed pretty quiet while playing Injustice. The screen is superb. The keyboard is quality, though the layout is a bit weird, I've never had a laptop with a wide enter button and the # key above it, also the \ not being by the left shift is so odd. Can't complain, though, as the machine is worth every penny. I'm looking forward to getting all my software on and games downloaded to give it proper road test, particularly like Metro Last Light, Bioshock Infinite and Far Cry 3.

You're gonna be blown away by metro last light quality, this is how it looks on my P370SM with one HD 8970M:

Sent from my baked potato -
I did a wire transfer. So the xfer is right away during business hours.
-
Different films react differently. So it depends on the film. Personally, I will use my laptop in places that won't have lights above or directly behind me. So glare won't be an issue. So I went for the better display, glossy.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Yes it will depend on the quality and diffusal level of the screen coating along with the quality of application.
-
So how long did it take between them receiving the wire transfer and shipping and you receiving? -
I did the wire transfer on Saturday, Nov. 30th, 2013. The transfer happened on Monday Dec 2nd, 2013. On Nov. 30th I also emailed lpc digital regarding the wire transfer. They started the order process and sent the order to the factory, even before they officially had the money from the wire transfer. It has now been only four business days since I ordered. I will update this thread on any updates, but it should be maybe another week to go. (7-10 business days)
-
I'm thinking of doing this same thing but I'm leaving the country on the 22nd, which means 20th is the last day I can receive it.
Do you think if I do the rush build it will be enough time? -
Not sure about LPC digital, but MYsn did my rush build within 3 days. So 5 days from ordering to receiving... and playing. xD
I guess it all depends on how busy they are at the time of your order. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
A rush build should be ok still IMO.
-
A rush should be OK, but talk to the reseller to make sure everything is in stock.
-
Support.3@XOTIC PC Company Representative
That leaves you 10 business days. Sager computers ship from CA so pick your shipping method accordingly as well. I saw on earlier posts you are in CA so its going to need to ship to your reseller first then back to you to avoid collection of sales tax.
I'd skip the bank wire and use a card if you can, wires can take 2-3 business days to clear -
Since this thread is slow, and people really want to know (ha). I will update my order process.
Shipped...
Ordered a NP8275-S on

Dec 2nd, 2013 Monday. Order shows it was sent to factory for build. (First business day, 3rd day)
Dec. 7th, 2013 Saturday (6:30AM) Shows shipped to LPC Digital, to avoid CA tax I guess. (Five business days, 8th day, the 6:30AM might mean it shipped the day before, so that would be five business days, 7th day.)
Note that I did not pay for rush service or delivery. -
That's awesome! Just out of curiosity, did they give you an estimate of how long it would take to ship when you first placed your order? I placed an order for the same computer with a different reseller and its going painfully slow.
-
I placed an order with LPC Digital yesterday, and since then I've gotten no instructions about how to do the bank wire transfer? How long did it take you guys to get instructions?
-
No, just said building would take 7-10 business days. After that I think it ships from California to Nevada, then it is shipped back to California. But it depends on your reseller.
-
Call them or email them. I was in touch with them before and during placement of my order. So as soon as I said I was doing wire transfer he sent me instructions. Otherwise they don't know if you are mailing a check or what not.
