Sounds like a pretty solid plan. The default 3630 should be more than enough to play any games out now, but the 3740 offers the best bang for the buck due to it being OC'able via XTU.

Just one more question. Is the sound card the P370EM uses that same as the one in the P170EM? I know the P370EM comes with Creative X-Fi MB2, but I'm of the understanding that's just better software, rather than a hardware improvement?
-
I got a nice result in 3DMark 11 but it says my graphics driver is not supported, even though I have the latest graphics drivers. Does anyone get the same message?
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-3840QM,CLEVO P370EM score: P10341 3DMarks
Also, is there any way I can make the clickpad register clicks over its entire surface, instead of just the bottom? The entire surface actuates but I don't see an option for this in synaptics settings. -
Mmm!!!mine is out for delivery!!! Woohoo , can't wait to touch the beast !!!
Does it make me a proud owner? Hell yeah !!!
So, if anyone interested of what is in the beast here it goes:
I7 3740qm
Nvidia gtx680m
( I placed my order with crossfire 2x Ati 7970m first, but after reading a lot for the above cards, drivers, heating issues, dead cards I just changed my mind and the order.Sorry Amd make better drivers and lets see how much these cards will last -see 69xxm dead cards after 1 year)
2x4gb 1600mhz corsair vengeance
(In house 2x8gb 1600mhz corsair vengeance)
Samsung ssd 840pro 128gb
(I will add my 750gb Scorpio black)
The others pretty much the stock.
Reseller mysn.de ,these guys were /are really good and truly kind, helpfull, they answered both phone+email, they also refund me to PayPal the ammount of small money for the changed order. Thank you guys!
So unti I receive it , all I can do is to fell in love with it a bit more!!! -

Hey,
I've been using (and loving) the raw power of the 9370. Had a couple issue but quickly ironed out by the good folks over at xoticpc and now i'm just enjoying customizing and personalizing the experience.
I ordered the laptop without any SSD with the intention of later installing one, but i wanted to know if anyone has any recommendations since im contemplating making the upgrade.
thanks -

The Intel 520 and the Samsung 840 Pro are my suggestions as of right now. The Intel will have the faster speeds but the Samsung has higher IOPS which leads to better general usage. Either one will be blazing fast though so see which offers you the best deal! -
they're both identical in price (intel for about $10 more). So Intel for extreme performance vs Samsung for overall faster performance? also in order to install it would i need to purchase any additional wires or parts? (i.e sager specific mounting brackets etc..)
-
Support.1@XOTIC PC Company Representative
Intel is going to be better for larger files with it's better read/write. The Samsung will be better for more normal day use of smaller files due to the larger IOPS. I personally would go with the 840 pro if that carries any merit. No extra parts for install required. -
Wanna see some awesome idle temperatures?? I've even had both GPU's at 52*C and 59*C playing Crysis 3 MP for one hour..
-
Support.3@XOTIC PC Company Representative
Forget about the idle temps, the max temps are much more impressive
-
So mate, what did you do, to get those temps , what's the mod/ trick ?
-
i picked up a samsung 840 pro and installed it just fine but it makes a clicking noise like something is loose or not being held down properly... i doubt my laptop is supposed to sound like this lol.
-
Support.1@XOTIC PC Company Representative
Well the SSD doesn't have any moving parts, so if a clicking sound developed it's like due to something hitting the fans as they spin. Double check that?
-
It's more of a clicking as if it wasn't properly fastened and held down. Only happens when I move the laptop so I'm positive its not a moving part issue.
-
Support.1@XOTIC PC Company Representative
I believe I recall someone on here saying that the 840 series are actually skinnier than other SSDs. Could take a bit of experimenting but you could try fastening a shim under the SSD to raise it up a little bit and absorb some of the possible movement. Should solve your problem if you are positive it's being caused by the SSD. -
Yeah for sure, and thanks. I've been drooling over the cooling in that 9570 but the computer itself is way more than I could justify without going desktop. Great video on that 9570 though, it was a pleasure watching.
Well first thing was a reapplication of the IC Diamond thermal paste, and yes ICD is the best thermal paste so you can just forget what anyone else says because I tested different ones. I had even better results the last time I reapplied when I just applied the paste without warming it up to make it more fluid. I just applied it right from the tube and seen a 10*C drop from already improved temperatures the last times I applied.
I did add some copper memory heatsinks on the heatsink pipes for the GPU's and use a laptop cooler. I'm not too sure if the laptop cooler makes a noticeable difference to be quite honest, the copper either but I did notice that tilting the back of the laptop did make a nice difference and the cooler works better than a book so I'm happy with that setup. But for sure at the very least prop the back of the computer and try to leave some room between the back of the computer and the wall.
Also, I did one of those foil-tape mods once I actually found out exactly what people meant. It's actually a great idea and I used very, very little tape itself. All I did was cut a few lengths of maybe 3-4mm tape to connect the small gap between the heatsinks and the fans. The less tape you use the better.
If you like I can pull off the back and take a picture for you.
And for me personally I really like to play games on the highest settings I possibly can and keep framerates smooth so I finally managed to beat it into my head that it's alright to put PhysX on Medium and if I have to then turn off AA. I played Far Cry 3 with zero AA and was pretty happy with my experience, and I'm very, very picky. The Witcher 2 looks beautiful without AA and Ubersampling. Other than that everything I play is maxed and above 45fps at the very least.
I used to mod the VBIOS too so I can overclock but the temperatures spikes are just not worth the minimal increase in performance AND the instability. I'm at default everything and very happy with performance and temps.
-
Amd 7970m crossfire is so bad?? I see some people change their order from 2x7970m to 1x680m , i am on opposide because i already have p370em with 1x 680m but i ask my resseler and they can upgrade my config to 7970m CF by 100$ extra price. Now new games are to much for 680m to play on max settings , like Crysis 3 ( on 2x7970m it run at very high settings very playable) i think now the amd drivers like 13.2 beta 7 are not too bad. I am very confused now about this. I should do this upgrade or not?
Ofcourse buy a second gtx is too expensive for me. (100$ vs 800$)
-
Lovely, I find my self peacefull, after your report! Everything fixed and everything runs smoothly!
Grats on the temps there man! I really like that you like and enjoy your beast lappy.
If you can take a photo or two I will be gratefull.
So from your paste experience what is the best way to apply the ic diamond? A small amount of paste on center of the gpu/cpu or a strait line ?
I haven't receive it mine yet, I will have it delivered abt 3rd or 4th march but I am going to add some small 40x40x06mm fans inside the chassis and some heatsinks + foil tape mod
Lets see , I dream of this mod as I will try heavy overclocking and best temps.
Hello there, yes I am one of those people who changed my order from 2x7970m crossfire to one single gtx 680m.i had do my research before I place my order for 2 atis, I knew that I was expecting a bit of heat issues , some unstable drivers, maybe some lappy drivers problems, but after I placed my order I really studied the p370em and Amd Ati 7970m.
Well if you like make a search for defective/dead 6990m after one,one and half year of use.
Make a search of unstable windows ,windows programs with Amd drivers.
Make a search for throttling with7970m and continues bsods after new patch in da house...
Amd , Ati , unfortunately has all to do with client side tests, tests, tests.
You have 680m,if you can't handle to not play at the highest settings some of the games and you can't live without this then go for 2atis. It's only 100 $ after all.
I just pick up the most safe path for me cause as I said before its just a lappy even if its a beast one, and even if its Clevo it's not so plug and play "simple" as standalone pcs. -
Well I was looking for something to insert in there that wouldn't cause it to overheat or be conductive in anyway and after many trials and errors i stumbled on some caulk tape lying around from our bathroom renovation lol. It's a plastic rubber with one adhesive backing as i didn't want to simply double side tape it and have a hard time swapping it out down the line.A few strips here and there and the ssd seems to be wedged in perfectly! I admit, it was a bit odd having to mcguiver this, i could have sworn the laptop came with a weird bracket/caddy.
Now to install this thing. Any way to simply clone the OS install on there or will i have to do a clean reinstall (because i JUST got it where i want it lol) -
You can clone the OS but you'll have to manually enable TRIM.

Yeah, the person I had mentioned about hearing this from was saying that they had it somehow slipped under the connector due to it being so thin. Since the 840 wasn't out at the time of the design of this I bet they didn't anticipate for this. Haven't heard an issue with the rest of the SSD but the 840 has that problem. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
That or you could get some rubber feet to stick on the far side of the connector maybe.

Anyone know if the 7970m uses the same heatsink as the 680m in the p370em?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Apart from a different arrangement of thermal pads yes.
-
It'd be interesting to see
-
Wow the SSD really kicked the laptop into overdrive... Now im kicking myself in the for not having done this earlier.
Also i've been perusing the DIY section and noticed alot of people are adding third fans to their laptops (carious makes & models) to help with cooling. I stumbled upon on the p150/9150 thread and some were adding copper heatsinks+cooling for some moderate cooling boost. Has anyone done the same for our platform? Would it even be possible? -
Yes the ssd is the thing of once you got it you always need it. Boot times in under 10 seconds are nice and thats on a msata so only sata2 not sata3 so could be even faster. Im not sure how you would add extra fans to the laptop but maybe add aftermarket fans that would replace the stock ones. As for the copper heatsinks it would only make a difference if you had say a laptop cooling pad with fans to blow air into the slots to get the air moving fast the heat fins otherwise it could make it worse for having heat build up just lingering. I did the foil trick and added some mx-4 thermal compound. Only game that 100% stressed my gpu hard was crysis 3 beta but by the time i did it the beta was over so i didn't have the same conditions to benchmark. If you can compare the beta to release im getting 6c lower temps than before.
Can i get replacement monitors from my reseller? Also has anyone overclocked their monitors? If so how high have you been able to get them? Mine seems to do fine all the way up at 120 but have it set to 90hertz. Find the extra fps is a little nicer since i didn't get the 3d monitor. regretting that now. -
Wasn't there 120Hz monitors without 3D?
-
Yes, but I believe they aren't 3D capable (you can't simply buy a glasses kit later and go 3D). When I get mine I'm getting a 3D version solely for the fact that if I ever upgrade it down the line (or play older games at supreme fps) I could experience some nice 3D single player stories. My 7.1 audio will make it even better.
-
All 120hz screens are capable of 3D. but you would need a nvidia 3D emitter and glasses for it to work. the 3D version of this laptop has the emitter built in.
-
I was going by the idea that I saw a post earlier by someone from Xotic that if you didn't get the 3D screen you couldn't use the 3D even if you bought a kit, but the emitter being included or not would make more sense. I had thought that any 120Hz screen should be capable, so I was confused before.
-
Support.3@XOTIC PC Company Representative
Not all 120hz screens are 3D capable. This is true of all LCD screens wether its for desktop monitors, TV, or notebooks. All 3D screens will be at least 120hz though but the reverse isnt true. -
I am a proud new owner of the Sager Np9370 I got mine with 16 gb ram the i7 3740qm and the dual 680m gpu's. The performance of this baby rivals that of many desktops. I also got the 3d ready version and I can play the witcher 2 in maxed detail settings antialiasing and multisampling and play in 3d with no loss of quality and never drops below 45 fps in 3D. Other games and movies look awesome as well. This machine had plenty of power and gave me a 3Dmark vantage score of 38010. and a 3dmark 11 score of 10353. I took the time to overclock both my gpu's and cpu's to what I would consider a safe level. My performance scores where noticeably higher, for a 3Dmark vantage score of 43005, and 3Dmark 11 score of 10766.

Hi guy's I'm a total newb when it comes to these beastly laptops, never had a "gaming" laptop, so I'm hoping to get some advice on a few questions I have.
I've got my heart set on getting myself a fully loaded laptop over the summer when haswell and the kepler refresh comes out. I've basically narrowed my decision down to either getting the NP9370, which is the dual GPU solution or the Clevo P170EM, which is the single GPU solution.
My question for those of you with experience with these things is how much of a difference is the noise and heat output of a single GPU vs dual GPU's. Do the noise or heat temps become a nuisance over long gaming sessions with either of these high end laptop GPU solutions?
Also I'm wondering about the maintenance and longevity of these systems. Are these built to last? If I'm going to drop 4k on a system, SLI Kepler, XM processor and a 480gb intel SSD(no more spinning disks!), I'd like it to last me at least 3 year's if not longer as my main computer. Does SLI decrease, increase(Does having dual GPU's perhaps lower the workload on the individual GPU's?) or is it neutral as far as the long term stability and health of the system. As far as maintenance do these systems require cleaning and re-pasting often?
Really, my choice in the future is coming down to the pros and cons of a single GPU vs SLI. I'm just a tad worried about nuances like micro-stuttering, possible higher temps, noise and possible compatibility issues. But I also really want to max out those graphics settings with the most fluid gaming experience possible on a portable machine.
Thanks in advanced for any responses! -
Maintenance and longevity are quite good if you take care of them well. I did not know about having to clean them and such as I never had to with my previous HP (though it was NOT a gaming machine), and as such I went nearly a year and a half with HOT temps and being caked with dust in my fans before I got things in order. Then I overvolted my video card and highly OC'd it and I used my machine to DEATH. Every day, gaming a ton. I am unable to change my thermal paste too (for a lot of reasons that are all personal) but in spite of all this, it did not give me any trouble until around the 3 year mark. And I know I hurt my system's lifespan a lot too. I would say that a machine like this, if taken care of properly and not pushed to any sort of extreme but kept within nice, safe clock speeds and such should last you at least 4 years without trouble. And your cpu and cards should run a good bit cooler than mine ever would too, so that is a huge plus to your longevity.
As for the single GPU vs SLI, the SLI will have stuttering problems in a couple games, but this is usually negated by good drivers and SLI profiles. Crossfire... is not so reliable with their drivers. But they will probably power through most any games with ease for the next few years, easily. I would go with the P370EM anyway though, as I don't want to deal with optimus/enduro pains. But that's just my suggestion. Microstuttering (non-driver-based type) is caused by low frame rates while in SLI/Crossfire. This is not going to be much of an issue for a good while. -
Sorry guys for the delay. Here are the photos from my lappies guts:
-
thanks a lot TimeLord.
I just got my new shiny lappy and i like it(!!!woohoo dancing allover!!!) ,its really worth every penny !!!
mysn.de did a really good job and i will be always thankfull.
My temps are really good! but i will repaste and i will do the foil mod.
I have only ONE kinda HUGE problem.
i can not overclock my gtx680m, no matter what ive done the card refused to take that +135mhz core overclock.
i can overclock the memory but for the gpu core clock doesnt like to take it.
I made a new thread so if any of you like to reply pls do so, here is the thread please take a look:

any help will be much apreciated.
Thank you. -
I know exactly what to do. I will see you in your thread.
-
Oh yes, one last thing I forgot to mention. I missed your saying you were a high-end notebook newb earlier. I HIGHLYYYYYYYYYYYYYY suggest you look up how to clean and maintain your machine once you get it, be it this or the P170EM variant. Regular maintenance can give you a lot of extra time on your machine, especially if it's being OC'd. Make sure the fans are clean at LEAST once a month (some people here will tell you once a week) and keep it in nice working order. Do NOT put it on any non-hard, non-flat surface unless you have a cooler underneath, or you will end up blocking the intake of the fans and overheating your machine and shortening its lifespan if its temps get to near critical levels, especially for extended periods of time. If you're using it on your lap or leg, try to place your focal resting point (if your leg) under the space where there is no fan, so that the other fans can breathe. If on your lap itself, then just make sure it is getting at least some air. A little heat won't kill it, but if you suffocate it even slight use can make it overheat and you want to avoid that.
Just a couple basic pointers before you take the plunge and get one of these beasts. -
-
Well, things have taking a huge turn for the worst. Last 2 days I was partitioning my 2 hard drives. I got the data drive done and I started on my boot drive. Originally, I had 3 partitions: C:\ 625 GB, F:\ 60 GB and G:\ 13.69 GB. I thought 625 GB for C:\ was too large so I wanted to drop that to 250 GB. The new layout was suppose to be: C:\ 250Gb, F:\ 60 GB, G:\ 200 GB, H:\ 175 GB and I:\ 13.69 GB. It wouldn't let me shrink C:\ past 355 GB. So I ended up with C:\ 355.7 GB, F:\ 60 GB, G:\ 275 GB and H:\ 12.6 GB. I played around with the system for a bit then I turned off the laptop.
The next day I turned it on so I can move My Documents, etc to my data partition and when the laptop was booting up I got an error message: Bootmgr is missing. Press Crt+Alt+Del to restart. I pressed that and the laptop won't boot to windows. Great. So I popped in the blue recovery disk and booted off of that. I chose recovery to try to fix windows and when the box has windows 7 ultimate highligted, I click next and get another error pop up -
System Recovery options
This version of System Recovery Options is not compatible with the version of windows you are trying to repair. Try using a recovery disc that is compatible with this version of windows. (ok button).
I don't know what to do next. I would like for this windows to be repaired. I don't want to re-install windows - I would lose what programs and drivers were already installed. Plus the info states I would need the 25 character product key - the number I got is 20 digits. I don't know what to do next. -
