Yes, had one for quite a while ;-) Not sure when the first review will go online, depends if notebookcheck are working over Christmas I guess!!!!!

Nice! Any insights on battery life from your personal usage?
-
@Needs - not really at the moment as the laptop is in the office in Germany where our R&D department isbut I work in the UK office. When I said "Yes, had one for quite a while" I meant that the company has had chassis for a while - not me personally. I used it a couple of weeks ago when I was over there but didn't carry out any testing myself so I can't draw any conclusions at the moment.

omg! @XMG! just saw your new flex line of machines, desktop cpus, igpu, external dock, slim form factor, this is nice!!! only thing missing is an egpu now
u dont, by chance, have any shots of the internals? id be interested in the cooling solution to get a ballpark what kinda desktop cpus might be possible in that line

cant find it on their site. does it support 6700k ?
-
Its on their german site, under schenker laptops. It doesn't support the i6700k, but instead offers the low TDP versions i.e. i6700Tjaybee83 likes this.

yupyup, thats why i would be interested in more details concerning the cooling solution
makes the modder in me itch with excitement

Aftershock just mentioned in their thread over in Hardwarezone that they will be uploading a video soon due to high amount of requests for reviews. Stay tuned!

I think there have been quite a few people looking for a machine like this just as it is.
-
just read on notebookcheck that xmg introduced this machine to their repertoire

@XMG: What are the methods of payment for international buyer? PayPal is OK?

Paypal should work... Don't see how it isn't possible...robohgedhang likes this.

so are there still no reviews out for this machine? Would love to see a full review before i pull the trigger.
-
I don't think anyone is going to get the laptop until early-mid January, so you will have to wait for a bit.jaybee83 likes this.

Ah got it. Sounds good. I didn't realize it wasn't shipping yet. I really think this could be the perfect size, just want to make sure it's not throttled.

Ionising_Radiation ?v = ve*ln(m0/m1)
Not as detailed as what HTWingNut does, but fairly decent, and typical of an Aftershock review.
I'm impressed at the cooling performance (~ 75°C CPU, ~60°C GPU), but they didn't exactly run killer tests or games. Fallout 4 and AC: Syndicate barely load the GPU; they'd have done better running Witcher 3 at High/Ultra or looping the 3DMark demo and Prime95 together.
I'll see if I can pop over to their showroom to test out some of my own games and of course, 3DMark as well as X-Plane 10 (which I believe to be a superior benchmark to most games).
It's a decent machine, but I'd rather it came with MXM and one more M.2 slot, as well as a longer battery life. Oh well, can't have everything.jaybee83 likes this. -
Agree! But at least now we know something rather than nothing x) Hope to see more reviews and tests!
Nice! Hope to hear from you soon with your results real soon!!!
Yea, can't have everything but I'm itching to get this device as its seems to be very reasonable for its price, weight and hardware, making it suitable for both school and gaming needs!

Does this have the same 180W power adapter (2lb) as the 15.6 inch?
-
Thinking about pulling the trigger on this laptop soon through XoticPC ( http://www.xoticpc.com/sager-np8640-s-clevo-p640re.html). I am conflicted between this one and its 15.6 inch big brother, which runs comparable specs and starts at the same price ( http://www.xoticpc.com/sager-np8657s-clevo-p650re3-p-8678.html).
-
And the 15.6 inch one has much better battery life, but is more expensive. Anyone know why that is? Shouldn't a 15.6 inch cost less because they don't have to cram as much into a small space?
-
Where do you see the price increase? For me they start at $1,319 each.
Also, the 15.6 inch variant comes with an included 1TB HDD that is not present in the smaller variant.
Probably pulling the trigger on this baby later today (with 2x 500GB SSD, 16GB RAM upgrade, Windows 10 Home). Price comes out to be $1,618.
Last decision I have is to A) get the Windows 10 Recovery Media (+$25) or B) add the copper cooling package (+$75) -
On exotic pc they have the 14 inch (non S) listed as $1,169 and the 15 inch (non S) as $1,269 :/
-
Ahhh I was looking at the S and then the Non S but some upgrades
-

The 15.6" has some extra tech in it such as GPU switching and larger heatsinks. It's a similar level of technology but you get a bit more of it
-
Which clevo model is the 15" version?

if clevo kept their naming scheme as with previous machines, its just a slight visual difference in the finish of the fan exhaust grills (glossy vs. matte)

Yeah, with Clevo models, the 0 or 1 is just going to be for the exterior finish, as there would be some slight changes to that, but usually the same internal systems.
The 650re has some design on the lid of the laptop, the 651re has more of a flat lid without the design to it.TomJGX and SlipperAgent like this. -
I see, thanks!
I did compare the specs earlier (which are exactly the same on the site) but thought I was missing something. Think I prefer the 641re with the flat lid; and if there's a difference in the finish between glossy and matte I'm all for matte. -
Is the battery easy to swap out on this unit to get more mobility with two batteries?
Will having only SSD and no HDD keep the unit cooler and/or extend battery life?
Thanks, having a hard time deciding between this and the P650 15" -
Ionising_Radiation ?v = ve*ln(m0/m1)
Easier than a MacBook Pro (since the battery in this is only held in by a few screws and not glued-on), but harder than the external-battery W230SS, which works like any removeable battery.
Yes, it will keep the unit cooler and extend battery life, but not by much. The benefits (besides the speed boost) still don't warrant getting a large SSD. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
They are more reliable in a mobile machine too due to the lack of moving parts, they are quieter and lighter.
-
I just ordered a P640RE with two 500GB SSDs. Not too sure about your space requirements, but if you dont think you will need more than 1TB on your laptop then I suggest going this route.
-
Does anyone know where the 2.5" drive and the m.2 slot is on this computer? I can't see them in the picture with the bottom panel removed.
I'm curious as to how easy swapping drives will be, and if one will be easier than the other to swap. Are they under the battery or something? -
hmmm wait did i miss something? where are the pics showing off internals?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk -
The 2.5" drive slot is in the lower right side, and the m.2 slot is in the left, below the left fan. I'm referring to the picture (with the bottom panel removed) posted by XMG.
-
Thanks. Seems obvious now.
So for the m.2 then you just insert it similar to ram and secure it via a little screw, yes?
I'm wondering which makes more sense to have my OS installed to. My package will have 2 evo 850 500gb drives, 1 m.2 and 1 2.5". Any thoughts from you more seasoned gentlemen? Which makes more sense for primary drive? 2.5" or m.2? -
Still not for sale on xmg UK website curious what price it will come in at?
-
aaah, got it:
good thing they decided to go for a shared heatsink design, that way one can tune the hardware better in such a restricted space
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
It's funny how middle sitting jacks (in PCB cut outs) are becoming the norm to save thickness. I just wish they did that with an MXM slot.
-
Yes, correct.
-
So I just got mine yesterday and either I have really greasy fingers or the keyboard is attracted to it.
Anyhow, I was wondering if anyone found a keyboard cover that'll fit. -
Ionising_Radiation ?v = ve*ln(m0/m1)
I found keyboard covers to be more of a hindrance than a help (dust gets under them anyway; keys feel too 'spongy' with the cover' and there usually isn't an exact fit for the keyboard unless it's a MacBook). Considered washing your hands thoroughly?
jaybee83 likes this. -
I don't mind keyboard covers, really. I had one on my old laptop.
I'll give washing my hands before use a try but I'm sure it's probably sweat or something due to long use. Gotta play my games! -
Ionising_Radiation ?v = ve*ln(m0/m1)
Of course! I know that feeling. I also found that scratching your head while using your laptop contributes a lot to the oily feeling.
Have fun with your laptop, I'm really envious! -
A guy over here is doing an AMA on the laptop right now!

Just as bad battery life as I thought
-
Oh, that's me. LOL. I'm not a total tech person so bear with me guys, I'M TRYING!
Also, I think your battery life may vary. I'm trying to get a handle on Sager's software and Window's built in software. -
Lol I wasn't sure, and I'm OP btw haha!
