I don't quite understand how a USB device could ruin the ports... The only USB-A port still working is the one near the card reader. The other two ports are DEAD when it comes to data RX/TX, the only thing they still manage to do is to power on the leds of the devices I insert in those ports. The devices are not seen by any of the three OSes.

The devices could spike the lines or be physically damaging the port.

(I had a few Li-Ion batteries not delivered from China in the past, which were shipped by some untrackable couriers — lost, stolen, or more likely blocked by customs — that's why I insisted on DHL shipping)
The power manager reports 49 Wh instead of 45 Wh, so it is a nice +10% capacity bonus. I hope it will last for at least one year (original battery had just 28% capacity left after 2.5 years usage).
EDIT: alas, no capacity bonus. Despite power manager reports "energy-full 49.14 Wh", the battery stopped charging at 44.95 Wh. -

Well it's in spec at least.

I'm thinking to buy Clevo's P640RF here in Germany. Trying to find a replacement for my Thinkpad X220.
I got two questions:
1. Does it run Linux well? It's hard to find any information about this laptop online.
2. Is it a bad idea to buy this laptop now with the meltdown/spectre vulnerability?
But it seems Clevo is not planning to update their 14-inch gaming laptop. The price is good too. Around 600 Eur for the basic configuration in Germany.
I appreciate any advice. -

Any machine will have vulnerabilities, though this is an older machine now.

1. yes, it does run Linux well.
2. it is bad idea to fix meltdown/spectre because you will lose 10-30% performance. I personally blocked cpu microcode updates because of that, but then Linux developers inserted those patches in the kernel itself...QWSniVuC likes this. -
Thanks for the info, guys. Just worried, because it read some old threads about Nvidia problems with P640RE version. It's too bad the display for P640RF is glossy. I wish Clevo updates it's 14-inch gaming laptop.

The new slim 15 inch designs are more portable generally.

HI,
I've a clevo p640RF laptop, which worked fine so far. However, the HDMI port stopped working for some reason. Linux is detect a second screen, detecting all the correct screen information (model, size, resolution, refresh rates), however, the screen isn't getting any signal. Is there any particular fault in this model what could cause this? The HDMI port worked fine before but now suddenly stopped working.
Also I'm unable to get the second mini display port getting to work. It's the port on the left, which is the closest to the back of the laptop. It's doing nothing, Linux doesn't recognize a screen plugged in and it's just like it isn't connected to anything on the main board.
I'm able to use the other mini display port connector fine for my second screen. However I need two second screens, and this is impossible for me right now because the HDMI port doesn't work and the second mini display port doesn't work either.
I also tried using an USB-C to display port adapter but that also didn't work.Last edited: Aug 2, 2019 -

Is your dedicated graphics running ok on the internal display? Do you have the drivers installed.

Yes, my dedicated graphics are working fine with bumblebee. I'm using the nvidia drivers.
