Well for the Ram Kingston HyperX has a good quality/price ratio, I never use mechanical HDD, i invested in a 1TB SSD few years ago and still use it. regarding the drive where window is I prefer using a M.2 ultra fast high quality SSD.

I'm going with the default 16GB RAM, I guess i'm of the belief that you're better off buying an extra stick of RAM than paying for a minimal performance increase with a brand. But I'll admit I haven't done much research lately into it, so I can't say i'm the best source.

SSD the Samsung 950 Pro, hands down. Now that they're running off the NVMe standard, it blows away the other SSDs on SATA, even the 850 Pro. ( Link) They are pricey tho, so I'm getting the 256 GB as a compromise. Since I keep any photos on an external drive anyways, and am using only ~200 GB after 5 years of my current laptop, the 1 TB backup will suffice. Maybe a couple years down the road the price per GB improves enough that I'll think of upgrading, but for now I'll be fine.mishkasm likes this.

On that note, it appears the 2nd M2 slot does not have PCIe Gen3x4, which would negate any advantage of buying a second 950 Pro or similar further down the line? Can anyone confirm?

I'd love it if you could game for an hour or so, ideally Witcher 3, Crysis 3, something like that, and report on the fan noise. Imagine you have a wife and baby on a sofa 3 metres away who don't like noisy fans - will they complain? ;-)
-
And I had an email from sager saying that the p650rs had a 60Hz screen screen. He said 75 at first. But then sent another email correcting himself to 60Hz. So I think we need another confirmation. Mayhaps someone that already has the screen and laptop?

This is exactly the information I was looking for. Thanks!
-
Oh, I'm very interested in noise. I don't have any fancy equipment but I'll give you my subjective opinion once I play with it a bit. I used to have an old Asus ROG G73JH and the damned thing sounded like a vacuum cleaner once it spun up.

Side note - I bought from Xotic PC.Punchdrunk likes this.

 Yes, I have 6820HK.

Can you disable MSHYBRID and test for CPU downclocking and high CPU usage when external display is connected?
-
Sure, will add this to my to-do list. What tool should I be using to view downclocking?

You can use Intel Extreme Tuning Utility - https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/24075/Intel-Extreme-Tuning-Utility-Intel-XTU-

I'm going backtrack somewhat; while the 950 Pro has impressive stats, I found another article with real-world testing (i.e. bootup time and game loads), and it found the real performance benefit to be minimal.ValkerieFire and Garridovic like this.

Just ordered an NP8153 from LPC Digital and will be 'patiently' waiting for its arrival. Apparently they're extremely popular right now.
Gonna use it to replace my 980 ti mini itx system. Went with the gtx 1070. Very excited from what I'm seeing.Last edited: Aug 30, 2016

Thank you sir, that article really helped my to clear my mind about buying or not a m2 ssd

my .02 (i looked up a lot) The real benefit to NVME is having tons of read/write so professional photo editing and video editing etc, in fact a lot of reports have said start up time will slow down because of the architecture(compared to standard ssd). ssd's suffer (just like hdd) in speed when more of the drive is being used so i find a 256gb to limiting anymore because of that(normally 500gb has double the cache as 256 as well). NVME gets hot and uses more electricity and costs 2x as much. So i chose m.2 850 evo 500gb which is same price as 250gb nvme 950.SirSaltsAlot and Garridovic like this.

i read that the power consumption is alot less with the 950 pro. the price difference isn't that much between 950 pro 256 and a 850 pro. i got 1 for mine
-
Good points. I totally forgot about the extra heat pipe. I really wish they would post a review of the P650RS-G, or better yet, I wish mine would hurry up and get here.SirSaltsAlot likes this.

I don't know where you see that.

I've universally seen that the 0950 is hungrier, especially at idle. At peak speeds the p er write/read power consumption is lower, although total power consumption is still higher. What I can't find easily is "real world" power consumption, as I noted in benchmarks the 950 was a beast, but in OS load and game boot it wasn't nearly as special.

For the 650RS the price difference between the 850 and 950 is $110 and $185 (256 & 512 GB, respectively.). that's nothing to sneeze at.
-

i got mine for $130. i think most sites changed the price on the upgrade
-

You sure you didn't just start on a higher default SSD?
-

I have a pcie SSD in my Sony Vaio pro and it's really fast in boot, but I'm not sure I would say it's hugely faster than my super old monster SSD. Like maybe a few seconds faster on boot up.
-

Everything was looking good then I went into bios enabled xmp on ram...and then switched gpu mode to discrete for gsync and well now the laptop kb lights up power lights up and...few sec later turns off and then lights up again in a loop. Display wont even turn on and i cant seem to get to bios anymore

 Sigh fun stuff

Turn off your notebook completely, press fn+d and the power button, this will reset the cmos. It works on some DM notebooks.Last edited: Aug 30, 2016SirSaltsAlot, Kittys and Xileforce like this.

Grrr....I ordered my system on 8/19 from LPC digital. He called 2 days later to tell me it (P650RS-G) was backordered and wouldn't ship until 8/31. So some people are getting their systems this week, but the Sager site now shows backordered until 9/9. Reached out to Larry at LPC and he can't give me any info on when my machine might ship!!!!!

He said he might know something tomorrow.
-
baytotheapple Notebook ConsultantDid you contact him 2 days ago or he contacted you? I also ordered on 8/19 but didn't get any backordered notification.

Is your model come with with gtx1060?
Also, is any of the two type-c ports thunderbolt 3?
-

It is. I have a P670RP6-G..I will have to check but I am sure both are just gen2 ports!

Can't blame them or us. Even if its just a 14nm deviation of maxwell the differences on mobile end are just too delicious to pass up if you can.

Most of the people getting them now ordered awhile back. I ordered mine exactly a week ago. I should get it by next Monday.
-

 Only P7X and P8X have TB3
-
Larry called me on 8/21 to inform me of the back order status, at which point he told me that it should ship on 8/31. When I checked the Sager site yesterday and saw that their back order status had moved back to 9/9, I emailed Larry to ask if he had an updated shipping estimate. His response was that these are the "hottest selling" Sager systems in quite some time, and that they weren't getting enough units from Clevo to fill all of the orders. He will have an update for me tomorrow, but I have a feeling that the order may be pushed back further.
-

sry i got on sale separately

Not sure if you are in the US, but just a reminder that next Monday is a holiday.

Can someone with a P650 tell me how much it weighs? Kg or lbs please. I saw 6.2 lbs (I think) in the german review, but I'd love to hear from owners.

That totally depends on how many gigs of porn you have stored on your hard drives
