I'm hoping to get some time tomorrow to do a bit of benchmarking. Whats a good piece of software to use? something to track fps and temps over 30 mins + gaming?
also, I have a bit of light bleed in the bottom right corner, only really notice it on black backgrounds.

Thanks for everyone that replied. My laptop might be OK- I had a single crash a few moments ago, but that might be because of Windows 10- other than that, I was able to fully run the 3D Mark Benchmark a few times and get repeatable results.
I was able to load Fallout 4 and get past the area I crashed before constantly in.
It might be the memory.
Question for you guys: Why does the Skylake chipset show support for only up to 2133 on the official Intel site, but is able to see / use 2666 if it causes instability? What's the limit for RAM speed? Any idea? I know the 6820HK is unlocked, but does it scale to anything with DDR4? Are my 2 DIMM's just bad? Thanks again. -
Dont quote me on this but i remember reading that only the 6820HK will support DIMMs with speeds of 2400mhz and above while the 6700HQ is limited to just 2133mhz
-
I hope not, I ordered my 6700HQ and it comes with 2400. -
The ONLY ram Xotic offers on these is 2400, so I doubt this is true.
-
Well... I cant get an accurate photo of mine so I cant show you.
Light bleed IS present. It seems like it's due to the way the frame of the screen is attached to the lid.
Alleviating pressure in some points makes it better so I think it comes down to how carefully assembled your unit is.
Mine's not too bad at all. I only notice it in the darkest of rooms and the blackest of screens. Absolutely no issues when gaming or even watching mediaFredSRichardson and Xileforce like this. -
That's comforting. I only occasionally sit in a pitch black room looking at a completely black screen for extended periods.

I agree with @ Xileforce - this is reassuring. I will check my current laptop to be sure I haven't been dealing with significant light bleed all along without noticing it!
Actually, the stock picture of the P650RS with the glowing keyboard makes me wonder if I would even notice light bleed in a dark room unless the keyboard lights were turned off =P
On that note, I kind of wish light only came through the top of each key and not around the edges (i.e. if the edges were opaque). -
Even my expensive 4K monitor has a touch of lightbleed. I only notice on blackscreens though, and unlike @Xileforce I don't stare at blank screens for fun

This thread is awesome. I also came here looking for information when I bought my np700z5c-s02ub with 640m back in mid-2013 haha boy it's already been 3 years and the laptop has been 4 years since launch. I can put out like constant-ish 45fps cap on lowest setting in Overwatch 900p, time for a new laptop obviously...been waiting for Pascal for ages. I'm in Korea and it seems like there is a rebrand here also named "Hansung Computer", pretty popular here since ordering internationally would cost fortunes due to customs tax. The price though is like $200 more for p650rp6, p650rs6 and $400 more for the p670 versions. It's insane...is there any chance that newer models will be released by Clevo in the future or there will be price drops? I'm going back to the states in a year and I might as well wait for kabylake.
-
New chassis's aren't likely because Kaby Lake is pretty unimpressive. Cannonlake would be much more likely, and its not a guarantee that all of them would be changed.Xileforce likes this.

Not sure if there will be much in the way of price drops, consider that a 970m laptop would run about $1200 or so. The 1060 performance is about on par with laptops that came with desktop 980s and start around $1300 and the prices don't seem as crazy.
Edit:
Also I swear I was just kidding about sitting alone in the dark!

Thanks.
-
Yea I noticed the price of 980m laptops are still pretty high considering 1060 can put out ~30% more performance and they can be had for lower or equal price.
-
If the 1050 ever launches those prices for Maxwell cards should plummet.Xileforce likes this.
-
For sure and I should clarify. I was referring to what they cost before Pascal. I'm sure prices have fallen a bit.

So, I've found some things that could help out people when deciding which models they want. Unfortunately, this brand hasn't released the p670rs-g. Scroll down to see measurements and basic port layout and design differences. They are in Korean, but it should be easy to understand. I can also find the ones with i7-6700k, desktop CPU which are different models if anyone wants.

@Galm17 and @Xileforce hmm... I have to check now. It's quite possible I've been living with light bleed without realizing it. I'll have to test my old laptop and see how it fairs.

Thank you for this! I will have to see how aware I really am of light bleed. It's quite possible that I've had it on my laptops (and even desktops) for some time and just ignore it or don't notice it.
I suppose if it was bad enough it could impact those really moody immersive moments in some games like Skyrim which can get pretty dark. -
Typically so long as there's other things on screen it's a lot harder to notice. Even in dark scenes. It's mainly pitch black where you see it most.

Yep, purely Korean brand. It's just like Sager. You could say this brand and MSI dominates the gaming laptop market here.FredSRichardson likes this.

I have had light bleed on both 651 and 670, but its not that big a deal in my opinion. Watching movies with lots of black is slightly annoying, but no problem apart from that

One thing that worries me a bit is that it comes it replacement thermal pads. Must spread the TP quite thick unless you can put more pressure on the heatpipedock? Pads looks light brown, so I`m guessing ceramic-kind,

Clevos always ship with those in extras baggie. Its not for cpu

Excited to get my hands on one of these around mid October or November. Still running an Acer V5-573G with an i7-U and a 750m.
I'm between the GS63VR with the 1060 or this with the 1070 to lug between work and home but I'm concerned about the reports of thermals being not so great. Should I wait and see what the other manufacturers come up with? -
Clevos thermals are some of best for pascal right now. Repaste helps a lot(because of stock pads) plus youll get more durable build out of it.
Mainly because temp is balanced between all three fans. GS is out of the question if your worried for thermal performance because gs has always been at the brink. GT would be better option but those come at price of thickness...same with clevos DTR.

Hi guys, I need some advice about my next laptop.
I've been looking for a clevo with the new GPU's pascal sold by pcspecialist:
https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/notebooks/defianceIII-15/
How are temps and in general is it a good laptop?
I've never had a clevo, how reliable is in the long term? I mean keyboard, display, cooling and other stuff like these.
What about the pcspecialist customer service? Would you suggest buying there outside the UK?Last edited by a moderator: Sep 5, 2016 -
I've heard the cooling was bad and did anticipate it to be worse with the boost that Pascal brought, pity though. Any word on the battery life of the 1060/1070 models?
-
They only have full color keyboard in UK English. Others are white light
-
They dont have full color KB in US English
-
From the xmg review or here? My 1060 is ocd to 2100 core and my temps haven't even hit 80... 75cish at worst and as it stands 1070 is ofc going to be a few c hotter. I had temp creeps before I repasted with MX4 potentially doing kryonaut next but the systems cool enough. Default config just doesn't spin fans much till things start cooking...but every c helps since my rooms 80 to 84f and 90+f with desktop on.
My 360mm x2 + 240mm full copper wc loop with 16 fans....keeps two 980ti and a 5960x at 60c while gaming so to me the 70s are A ok with air for the unit as long as that heat is not transferred to lap which so far hasn't. If it was then there would be huge issue...
Battery wise MSHybrid mode : 4 1/2 hours for me but Discrete i haven't checked

I do own a P670RS-G since last week. 1070, 6700hq, rgb keyboard (awesome stuff) 1080p@75 Hz, 16 gb ram, dual ssd setup.
the temps are quite nice since i put the kryonaut on my cpu/gpu. cpu is undervoltet @-80 mv which seems rockstable for now.
Idle: CPU 32°! GPU 39-41°
Witcher III all maxed: CPU no idea, below 50°. GPU 71° max with and without Vsync
Squad@ epic settings: FPS never below 50, max 140 or something. thats also the game that gets my 1070 realy hot (80°) but its an early alpha version and not optimized.
Prime95 max heat tourture CPU 81° max
Unengine Valley GPU 76° max @ 1825 clock max.
Firestrike Score 12,5k ~16,x k Graphic Score
not much gpu oc done by now but +150 core +300 mem seems stable. used msi afterburner for a quick test because the clevo control center is cancer and aids at once.
and thats my biggest concern.
the controls center does not work at all.
custom fan speed? nope
oc window? does nothing
recognizing values after reboot? nope (downgraded to x.58 to get at least this working)
i hope clevo does give us a fixed bios/EC/CCC version soon and this laptop will be a hell of a beast.
automatic fans are ok but not perfect.FredSRichardson likes this. -

And yes I really hope they fix those issues, because they can be simply fixed.

From the XMG review, if you're referring to the one on Notebookcheck (is there a difference? I was hoping to buy from them). Cheers for that, doubt I'd be gaming on discrete while on the go. Do you know how much the power brick weighs? Trying to decide if I will buy one for the office and another for home.

If you are having a hard time booting a Windows 10 USB pen with UEFI mode ON, Press F2 when the PC turns on and in the BIOS BOOT page you will see your PEN under "Boot Override" select it and press ENTER, if this does not work then its a problem with your pen.
This might not be a problem for now, but it might be in the next BIOS version, so keep this warning in mind.Garridovic and baytotheapple like this. -

Great little review, thanks.
Out of interest, how loud are the fans while gaming? Reasonable without a headset? Did undervolting help reduce noise much?
Also, did you try overclocking the display? Any other general subjective thought on the display?
Much thanks. -
Nice OC. How much of a difference did the OC make to typical fps and fan noise?
Also, asked NomadFX a question above regarding the display. Would be great to get your thoughts. -
Hmmm. with the automatic fan setting it is still ok regarding noise. my XMG P706 was louder than this one.
idle or browsing, playing hearthstone -> ultraquiet
semi demanding games with vsync on -> realy okish!
high end games -> still ok ;p my gf can still sleep while i play.
max fan setting -> dont do that ;p no need for it anyway.
Did undervolting help reduce noise much?
a bit but replacing the heat paste helped more.
no oc on the display. little bleeding in the top corners but no biggy. i like the display a lot.ronferri likes this. -
Wow. So you had the exact same model, except with the 980m, and you're saying the 1070 model is quieter?
Interesting. So many reports seem to show pascal as running hotter, thus louder, than maxwell. -
I shall have to test differences. I only tested it in BF1 for temps! So i will report back on it for you around 5pm est. For panel OC i will check for you too but i have heard the usual notion of up to 100.
I have fan noise video while playing OW few pages back ill need to do better one though that's not pulling from onboard and creating so much interference. Its not noticeable when your on headset and is honestly eerily quiet to point I wish they had a button like msi has to max all fans if stuff got too hot just to be sure...they are not as aggressive as they could be.

Fantastic laptop with my only wish being more fan steps ( but I am sure a BIOS update will improve this)
PCSpecialist customer service is average at best, but it was so much cheaper than anyone else I risked it. -
Has anyone undervolted the cpu? If so, what did you use to change it?
-
What does Fn + 1 do? That's a max fan speed shortcut on P870, so perhaps it'll work.
