It's no surprise to me that the Sharp display is in high demand. The specifications look so darn good. All the reactions I've seen so far have all been very positive.
On another note, Valve are awesome. I just won Trine 2: Complete Story, Trine: Enchanted Edition and World Of Goo in the Steam Holiday Auction. Just by recycling my useless junk in my inventory. Not bad!![]()

Here's hoping everyone got stock of the NP8652 IPS today!! Ordered mine on the 3rd from Xotic and fingers crossed they got stock to ship before xmas.
-
I saw something about the Holiday Auction on steam but didnt bother looking up what it was. What did you have to do?
-
Bid on games using gems. Highest bid wins. Auction repeats every 45 minutes. Simple as that! You get gems by recycling random items like profile backgrounds, emoticons, trading cards etc. It's a convenient way of clearing out the useless junk in the inventory and winning some free games in the process
Praise Gaben!

Ah cool
thanks for the info.

I received an email from Mythlogic a couple hours ago saying that my order has been "assigned a shell" which hopefully means they are getting their stock in. I need to send in my bank info and then they quote 12-15 business days after payment, so hopefully I'll get mine by the end of the year. Ordered a 980M with the FHD screen.

no it doesn't really unless your wifi doesn't work without the driver, in that case get wifi card driver down first

The XP941 uses AHCI.
NVMe is a completely different beast.
The firmware must support NVMe for boot and the OS driver must support NVMe for access.
It will be interesting if and how they support AHCI for backward compatibility.jaybee83 likes this. -
I received yesturday my xmg p505 with the 980m. Its a beast of a Laptop. The IPS FHD-Panel is awesome i really like it. At the start windows scales to 125% i think and all installers look blurry so i changed it to 100% and all symbols are big enough without causing headache like my Macbook Retina. In comparison to my GS60 the fans are really i mean REALLY good and in office mode you can't hear them.
Here is an article about scaling in Windows

Man! I hope my order isn't further delayed Dec 30! I placed it on third I hope I made the last batch... My order is still in stage 1

hey bjs I just thought of one thing, doesn't HM87 only support 2 sata 3 ports and 4 sata port total? one of them already goes to the M.2 slot already... that means the two hard drive slots....................
has anyone actually used two ssds in the sata slots? this essentially means that they can't be both sata 3... so my guess is that they hard wired two sata 2 ports to get sata 3's speed, but then that means when both slots are filled the speed drops back to sata 2? what's your take on this... -
Shame on me, didn't notice the limitation in PCI lanes.
So... that's probably why if you choose to mount a 3g modem, you can't mount a PCIx drive. -
Joined the club. Ordered my P650SG with Sharp 4K panel from XOTIC PC. Thanks Derek S for the help.
Now the depressing waiting commences.

There goes my project of buying a 3g module down the line. I'll have to choose between this and the pcie ssd, no good

Is it possible to change the fhd ips panel to a 4k panel if i ever feel the need to change it?
-
Scan better dispatch it today. Don't let me down!
Nobody knows. All depends on whether you can source replacement connecting cables.

In the same boat! I see you ordered the same specs as I did. Hoping for good news today or tomorrow. -
Yes! Finally! The tracker has left stage 5 'software' and has now moved onto stage 7 'quality control'!
So good to see some movement after these past few days of complete standstill. Please pass QC! Please!

yup, was thinking about that, but its hard to decide which info / fact is worth adding to the OP, since i dont want to clutter it and keep a nice overview. cant very well add every lil tidbit of info coming in
caretaking of the OP does not mean i play babysitter for people who are too lazy to read / search a single thread
thats why ive also said multiple time, if people would like an info added to the OP just hit me up via pm or post it here in the thread! that would make the decision easier, since it would make apparent the infos that people would like to have in the OP.redbytes likes this. -
Ok, for people in the future with the same problem, for me it turns out that it doesn't crash if I put the desktop resolution to 1920x1080, and then start 3D mark. I just ran the benchmark succesfully (results are here for those interested: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-4710HQ,Notebook P65_P67SG)

I have ~P8338 same configuration but 16go DDR3 1600-2400mhz and SSD.
I just wanted to tell everyone that after several hours of gaming : it is the best laptop i bought since i was born.
My GPU barely reaches 61°C : one hour of BF4, still, one hour of COD AW @max : 59°C. CPU <81°C average : 68°-71° .
War thunder 40 minutes @ max : 70° C CPU // 59° C GPU.
Beautiful IPS screen but ordered a GLOSSY eDP, i just love glossy screens ^^.
Very nice design, sturdy chassis, the ability of adding 2*7mm HDD is great.
The 980M is ULTRA great, crazy performance + superb temps.
The sound is great ! Even my ex-GT60+dynaudio is in my opinion inferior
I can use a horribly complex solidwork CAD model, the P650SG manages it like a champ. -
Wickette, thanks for the info! How does the IPS screen perform in FPS games? Are the response times good enough or you'd prefer a faster TN screen?
-
LG ips have A+ quality grade, don't expect ghosting or <60hz. I play all my games with Vsync @ 60fps, no problems at all with the response time, i didn't test with 60+ fps because :
1) it generates more heat for the GPU, for something useless
2) the screen isn't compatible with 60+ fps (tearing etc) just like ALL 60hz panels : I never had any tearing / ghosting but i don't think that would be the case anymore with Vsync OFF.
LP156WF4 SP B1 LG MATTE :
(i t's not a 60 fps video on youtube, but any ghosting/tearing can be seen on youtube)
The 3D mark demo is >=60fps (no Vsync) and realt time rendered (for people who don't know the purpose of 3D mark)Last edited by a moderator: May 12, 2015 -
yup i agree with wickette on this one, vsync is recommendable to save energy, keep temps low and avoid tearing

I wonder if it'll be Matt the bearded DPD guy again who delivered my P35X v3 and then collected it again when it needed returning
One more sleep. So excited! Can't wait to see that glorious 4K IGZO IPS display with my own eyes. First thing I'll try is Trine 2 at glorious native resolution, 60fps. Then Dragon Age: Inquisition, which I have yet to test out on a 980M. Most of the day will just involve setting it all up with drivers, updates and my personal files so that I'm ready to take it on the train back home the following day.
And the Steam Winter Sale begins today too; perfect timing! Though I must try and restrain myself, I have such a large backlog of unfinished games already, but I'll treat myself to some resource-light indies to test out 4K native gameplay.
I am your guinea pig. Ask me anything and I'll do my best to answer any questions. Everyone's already been really proactive at giving their thoughts as soon as they've got theirs. So if I can identify something my laptop will have that no one has yet looked at, that'd probably be most beneficial to everyone in this thread.

Hi, I'm planning on doing the following storage configuration on the P650SE, does anyone knows if this is even possible?
1) 3X RAID 0 = I would like to RAID two 2.5" 7mm SATA SSD with one M.2-SATA-mode SSD.
2) Future: Move the OS to an M.2 PCIe-x4, once the price of these drives lowers a bit and performance increases with the upcoming PCIe-x4 SSD controllers, and leave the 3X RAID 0 for data storage.
What I'm concern is, if it is possible to even RAID the two 2.5 SATA with the M.2-SATA, will the RAID controller see them and join them?
and also if I use the M.2-SATA, can I use the other M.2 in PCIex4 mode?
Please let me know if you have info.
Thanks, -
I think that you can make RAID only in pairs - like a RAID on the 2 SATA ports and a RAID on the 2 m.2 ports. Plus, RAID 0 for storage is a suicide - you don't use RAID 0 for storage, but for performance. RAID 1 is far more recommended for storage purpose.
-
I remember someone saying that you can't mix m2 and sata ports to form a raid...
-
Pleas tell how the scaling works and can you take comparison shots by setting the display to FHD?
This mashine is a beast i really like the build quality! At the moment i'm Playing Far Cry 4 at Ultra and it runs so smooth. -
yup that is indeed the case: raid on these models is only possible between the two sata or the two m.2 ports in sata mode. also, once u install a pcie m.2 drive running at pcie 4x 2.0 u wont be able to use the other m.2 port for storage anymore (iirc, so please correct me if im wrong)
-
Lucky you. I bet you now find it hard to sleep being so excited about your new notebook. And tomorrow you'll be more paranoid waiting for someone to knock at your door to deliver your new toy. Goodluck to you, I hope you will received it tomorrow...
Please kindly share to us some high quality photos and videos with 4K Sharp IGZO in action.
Thanks

Cake - if you can give us your thoughts on native 4k vs. downscaled 2K/1080p res it would be appreciated.adampk17 likes this.

+1 but with actual high quality screenshot will be much appreciated + your thoughts.

Hmm I may not need to swap to the Samsung display then
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk 2 -
good thing is one doesnt need AA anymore since the resolution is so high that one wont notice any "pixelsteps" anymore. on the other hand, 1080p performance should be around 90-100fps in order to ensure 30fps at 4K at otherwise identical game settings...
-
This is optimistic, I'd say like 120 fps in FHD to get 30 in 4k, since you have 4x pixel to process.
-
Assuming 1080p is using AA and 4k isn't, I think it's granted that we can estimate it lower than 4x... Not sure if we can estimate it as low as 3x though...

A question for the owners... The audio jack is headphone only or is it a headphone/mic combo?
