I know the feeling, it's heavy compared to other 15" laptops but fortunately not too bulky, relatively slim (1.3 inches).
Wasn't someone supposed to start a weight training program to get us coffeeshop thin and light weaklings with atrophied biceps into shape for the Batman?![]()

From what I've been able to discern the PM953 is an M.2 22x110 form factor, not M.2 22x80. If the specs from the Polish reseller are correct, there will not be enough room in the P7x0DM for this type of card.
We'll have to see if this holds true as more details become available. -
indeed, ive also come across that info concerning the dimensions of the PM953...

They may be trying to keep it single sided for server airflow purposes so going with the larger standard.

It depends on how much carrying you will be doing like if your going to carry it around everywhere u go or to different classes. Tbh after helping my nephews move to their dorm I noticed alot of kids with smaller laptops. Battery life will also come into play. If your going from one class to another constantly on a daily basis you might want to get something that will be lighter and have a longer battery life. Something like the clevo se/sg would be more up your alley imo. -
My college has AC plugs in all classes in which I would need a laptop. Well, for this semester at least.
I use notepads for writing notes. I don't type notes. So I won't need it in my lectures. -
Just a 980M GPU? what about the newer generations? i thought a new one was coming out in a few months. Either way, i'm still getting this beast at some point in the coming year.
-
well duh, if the DM series comes out before the nextgen nvidia graphics, then of course its not gonna be sporting it (yet)

Ok so the count down begins Sept 1st we should have some updates very soon for a release date. While we wait
lets have some discussion. Do you think VAR's (Value Added Retailers) like Sager and XoticPC etc.. should offer a delid service? And do you think they should using something better than IC Diamond?
Imagine getting the laptop with no hassle or stress just turn the thing on and it's ready to go, with delid already done using the best of thermal pastes. What do you think?ghegde and MichaelKnight4Christ like this. -
So, go with Mythlogic. They test before they ship. It's ready when you get it. I'm not sure how extensive their customizations go. I didn't ask about delidding or lapping. My ZM from them has my SSD and RAM in the build. IC Diamond wasn't an option, it was standard.
I don't see Sager offering a delid service. They're too big, it's too custom. I've seen too many reports of poor paste jobs from them already. How will a delid go with "Rush Service"? Poorly, is my guess. They use IC Diamond for a reason. It's good enough. I'm sure bulk pricing doesn't hurt either.
-
Here's a fresh look! Say Hello to the New Batman 2.0
Notice the Type C port : )
Also I don't think IC diamond is "good enough" especially as an only option from retailers... So the discussion continues do you think retailers should offer a delid service with better thermal paste options? Perhaps it's time to make the Demand!
I'm also concerned about the lack of Glossy Sharp 4K IGZO panels that I'm seeing being offered even for the old batman. Which is sad to see it was superior to the Samsung in many ways except for G-Sync of course. I hope Clevo will still offer the Glossy 4K panels

I think places like that should offer a delid service I mean it may take longer for the order but why not since they offer other time consuming jobs like custom paint or OC servicing ect so I see it as a extra technical service that some will want to use and will pay for to get those extra lower temps without tinkering with it themselves. I'm glad you brought this up because I would like to see some other things as well.. like vendors offering; more cpu options(from every available z170 compatible chip) and more battery options like bigger or smaller options to purchase. Anyway as far as Ic diamond goes I know its rated high but from what I see its like every vendor uses ICd. Maybe some new choices would help and tbh variety and choice is always a good thing when your spending money. -
Exactly I mean a lot of users here who are pushing to lower their temps do not use IC Diamond there is better, so why not offer the best, especially when your buying the best laptop.

Delidding won't help much. You still will have to make up that gap between the CPU and the IHS somehow. Maybe Sager could offer a heatsink with an added 0.7mm copper thickness on the heatsink for users that want to delid and get best cooling opportunity.
MichaelKnight4Christ and moviemarketing like this. -
Those are some of the resellers not Sager itself offering the extra services. Sager would build it, ship it to a reseller for the extra and then to the customer.
I'd go for an upgraded heatsink. Or a few $ more for a tighter tolerance stock. That's more on Clevo. -
MichaelKnight4Christ Notebook Evangelist
I was in fact pertaining to the vendors, I feel if most vendors offer things like oc service and custom finishes a delid would be a stellar option and as htwingnut said a copper piece as well as anything needed to complete that type of service properly. Its still niche type of service but a great service option none the less. Also the tp and cpu options I feel are super important. For example the non k i5 6600 and non k i7 6700 as well as the xeon processor when released should be regular options for most vendors. I am aware that some vendors offer these but I want to change "some" into "most". -
IC Diamond already is among the top three of non-metal based TIMs. the other two include GC Extreme and now also Grizzly Kryonaut. the only pastes that are even better are metal based ones with Coollaboratory Liquid Ultra sitting on the very top. so when already using ICD there isnt really much room for improvement anymore
also, imagining how that delidding service would be like, if the vendors are already infamous for bad paste jobs. so imagine that bad paste job under the (cpu) hood...
just reuse the IHS, its made of copper anyways, so no need to bridge that gap
speaking of which, ordered myself a vice from amazon yesterday...

Are you willing to wait up to a month? I wouldn't think a lot would stock odd CPUs. Of course, you could buy it yourself and either change it or send it for the build if a vendor is willing.
TIM - North America - Sager, Pro-Star stock or IC Diamond upgrade. Eurocom, Mythlogic IC Diamond standard. iBuyPower - didn't see anything on their site. That's it for NA Clevo rebuilders on NBR.
Have you contacted any of them about your wishes? Some might be more open than others to customizing. -
Right, but what about that silicon goo seal around the base that was the issue originally, about 0.7mm offset of the IHS to the CPU. If you remove that silicon goo you will get closer to CPU, which should result in better heat transfer, but then you're offset to the system heatsink by 0.7mm, that is where you'd need to take up that extra gap.
Ideally it would be best if they will would make an "enthusiast" heatsink to remove the IHS altogether and have a heatsink to touch down to the bare die. Laptop CPU's are just bare dies so why not do same with the desktop CPU. -
totally correct as always HTWingnut, the best way would be to remove that silicon seal and reuse the IHS without it, but rather clamping it down with the socket itself
that way ull remove that silicon gap and still have easy access to the naked die, if it ever becomes necessary...
as for the resulting "gap" between IHS and cpu heatsink, im hoping that itll have enough flexibility to overcome that
ill find out soon enough i guess

Two quick comments...
A) I don't believe vendors will ever offer a service like this. How would they offer / resolve warranty issues. I just cannot see this happening.
B) I thought with Skylake CPUs due to the "thinness" of the package, most OC'ers are recommending NOT to use the vice method. Plus with the voltage regulator moved off of the chip, cutting the IHS away with a razor blade was less risky.
Clarification... for B, I'm referring to the CPU which would go into the P7x0DM when it is released, not anyone's current CPU or a CPU on a different machine.Last edited: Sep 1, 2015Bullrun likes this. -

Believe what you will, but here in Europe Hyperbook (former Bluemobility) offer a
deliddservice on their configurator.
Edit: Nevermind, I was talking about lapping the heatsink, not about deliding.Last edited: Sep 1, 2015 -

oh they do, hm? gotta check that out right away....also didnt know they changed their name

I would think that a desktop CPU will provide limited gains/benefits for gaming. I see the Batman as primarily a DTR/Workstation.jclausius likes this.

Agreed, A) Is probably the biggest deterrent.

Not a problem at all. They can still warranty the laptop just void the cpu warranty. I'd be OK with that just haver a waiver that the buyer agrees to waive the warranty for the cpu.
Think about it this way is your warranty voided if you install a new cpu? Nope so just offer a custom cpu where that cpu is not covered under the warranty -
I agree. We all have our reasons for upgrading, and a simple "because I want to" is more than sufficient, let alone having other reasons.
I also have a ZM currently, but I'm looking to sell that one off and getting a new one, as I didn't realize at the time that I could've gotten G-SYNC on it. Since I'm looking to get a new G-SYNC version, why not wait a month or two for the DM?
I think certain people view one's choice as potentially invalidating their own. Which is ludicrous. I drive a Hyundai Sonata, my brother-in-law drives a Ford F150. Both perfectly fine decisions, since I commute to my office/desk job (gas mileage is important) and he's a construction supervisor.
I just sold off my AW17 R1. Not because it's a bad machine (it isn't - it's one of the best I've ever owned) but because the new tech coming out (G-SYNC, USB3.1C, TB3, DX12, etc.) are things I was interested in, and that machine couldn't deliver on those (same thing with the 750ZM).
Part of the problem here is the people who often visit this forum tend to be more tech-savvy, on the leading/bleeding edge of it, and the idea that someone is ditching their laptop makes them feel like they have a sub-par machine.
Different strokes for different folks.
Too bad you don't post here more often - your Lenovo Y50 review is the first one I ever read here, and is the post that got me started on these forums. For better or for worse.alaskajoel likes this. -
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this machine going to use 260-pin DDR4? Wouldn't that then make it incompatible with 204-pin DDR3?
-
Sorry, I should've been a little more clear in my post. To me, warranty on all parts is extremely important. Yes, changing CPU should (and does) not void the warranty on these Clevo laptops. However, AFAIK, de-lidding does void the warranty on the CPU. So my guess is it would be something a minority would take advantage of - spending $$$ on a new CPU only to void its warranty.
However, it's a free market for most of these things. If there's enough demand from customers for this service, I'm sure someone may offer it. I just don't know if there's enough of a demand and was trying to explain why it hasn't already been offered.
But I could be wrong, and perhaps someone might consider this in the future. For example, I just saw a vendor's web site offering an extra 'lapping' service for the P7x0DM. Is de-lidding around the corner? Time will tell.Last edited: Sep 1, 2015 -

Above is a long range quote from another forum topic thread and with this the user attached a file linking us to the specs of a new SLI version of the DM. http://forum.notebookreview.com/attachments/p870dm-b_v2-0-without-pdf.127268/
This notebook is looking like it will be the most powerful consumer notebook pound for pound. Its similar to the DM but will have more usb ports and will be able to support 2 mobile graphics cards.
Gollie...if a desktop cpu wasnt enough for a notebook imagine a desktop cpu with sli 980m's all in a 17in 10 lb laptop package. This is a total DTR !! Compare this to a actual sli desktop and you see how much space and weight is saved.jclausius likes this. -
Drat. I was hoping one of these new Clevo models would go back to 3 drives. Either 3 x M.2 2280 OR 3 x 2.5" HDD bays.
Still another model to consider. Thank you, Clevo! -
What's the difference? You can install 4 SATA-SSDs if you want.

I doubt you will see anybody offer a de-lidded CPU or service to do that. I don't think any vendors want to void a warranty on the CPU. -
@MichaelKnight4Christ: well, its not like this was a big surprise, its just the refresh of the P37x series
the true monster will be unveiled once the P570WM successor pops up
@Ramzay: as mentioned before, reading helps @supposedly feeling invalidated
as for DDR3: thats correct, the P7xxDM series will only support DDR4 hardware-wise. the chipset itself can handle both DDR3L and DDR4, but only if the mobo manufacturer decides to support both slots hardware-wise... -
BIOS-type (Fake) RAID on these newer Clevos is only supported among the two drives in either chain with mirroring or striping.
In the older models with 3 drives you could get RAID-5, which I've needed a time or two when redundancy and somewhat speedier writes were needed. I can report performance was sub-standard. However, I didn't do benching on 2 drive mirroring vs 3 drive RAID-5, so I don't know how timings compared between the two with large virtual machines or a database.
Now, if only there were 3 drives along with a true checksum chip they could enable on these laptop mobos w/ RAID... Then that would really be a dream machine for my needs.Last edited: Sep 1, 2015 -

Its going to be a beast and the new undisputed power champ of notebooks until skylake or kabylake makes 6-8core chips so as far as I know that Dm will be the undisputed heavy weight champ of notebooks with its full desktop cpu and sli double guns.
Okay pal !
Thats nothing you should see my 11yo acer its about 7 lbs, 15in screen, no dgpu, and it only has one mobile processor.
but it still works!

Has anyone tried using Delid Die Guard (from MSI) on p7x0zm?
And if it worked well for 4790k, what do you guys think of using it for 6700k on DM? -
you should probably ask that in the ZM owners lounge
but as far as i know, no one has tried that there, it has been discussed though...
@MichaelKnight4Christ: well thats exactly what the P570WM successor will sport, namely an 8 (or more) core extreme desktop cpu with sli mxm graphics

The P570WM will still win in benchmarks due to the two extra cores over anything using 4 core skylake

Looking around, I can't seem to find any 260-pin DDR4 RAM modules.
Any ideas on availability/pricing?
