nah, just keep the IHS but swap out the intel TIM with something....more adequate, like CL liquid ultra
-

Since we're on the TIM subject...I see sooooo many vendors offering an upgrade to IC Diamond paste on the cpu and gpu. I've never used it, because I read that it scratches the heck out of the dies...which to my mind would hurt subsequent repasting efforts if they were necessary. Anyone have any experience with this TIM?

BTW...already purchased my 32 gigs of ram for this puppy...bought a 4790K months ago because I was thinking of sticking it in a rig, so I'm all set with that...SSD's were purchased on Black Friday...now if we could just get this lappy in the wild already!jaybee83 likes this.

i hear ya buddy cant wait to get this beasts lil brother cant wait to get this beasts lil brother

btw, ive used ICD before tons of times, and while it indeed does cause some minor scratches i havent heard any desastrous consequences from a single user thus far. all the reports were just cosmetic in nature if ure still worried tho, u could just try gelid GC extreme, its supposed to even be a tad better than ICD if ure still worried tho, u could just try gelid GC extreme, its supposed to even be a tad better than ICD Kaozm likes this. Hmmm...non-corrosive AND non-conductive. And to think: I've been stuck in the days of MX-4. Methinks I doth giveth Gelid a look! Danke!
-
Went from MX-4 to GC Extreme, pretty happy with it so far, a bit more difficult to deal with, though.

so does the 9772 have optimus or not? i keep seeing it listed but in forums peeps are saying you're running straight off the 970m. i'm almost sold on the 9772 and may be a guinea pig but this is one of my deciding factors. it's this or 8278-s, but the 9772 is so promising if temps are good, and even better if optimus works.
-

 Yes it uses Optimus.
-

So why do so many say it doesn't?
-
 any source ?

clevo builder in my country specifically said p770zm doesnt have optimus
-

Go to RJTECH. They advertise the video card selections as having "Optimus Technology".
-
 strange

i double confirm again with my clevo builder , they can guarantee that p770zm doesnt have optimus . And when i try to look at mythlogic they also didnt specify optimus with p770zm , only p17xsm have optimus
-

sorry wingnut, one of the rare cases i have to disagree with you my builder also confirms that the ZM series does NOT have optimus, thus why they sport comparably bad battery times. but who cares, just wanna be able to overclock my display my builder also confirms that the ZM series does NOT have optimus, thus why they sport comparably bad battery times. but who cares, just wanna be able to overclock my display

Meaker@Sager Company RepresentativeIt might be worth investigating if the P state clamping in nvidia inspector could be of help since the gpu even fluctuating slightly can cause a big increase in power draw. The 970M and 980M should cope with most 2d work at idle clocks.
-

always a nice thing to have to keep the laptop quiet and cool during everyday usage (when not gaming/benching/doing intensive work) is to force the 2D P-State as meaker already mentioned. helps a lot in temps and power draw in light usage scenarios same goes for forcing idle clocks on cpu / disabling turbo boost.

You are correct. The manuals are available at Clevo's website now too if interested: è天Clevo

There is no indication of Optimus or Intel GPU in the manual. I think some resellers need to update their descriptions.
-

thanks for manuals  btw they are same for Z75xZM & Z770ZM
-

Is there any other reason to get the 4790k besides over clocking? I just want to undervolt. Would the k be better or luck of the draw if I get a regular 4790. I'd like to leave turbo boost on if I get a good undervolt. I'd rather have a cooler system than one that hauls at a higher tdp.
-

if u cant think of a reason to go for the 4790K right off the bat, then u most probably dont need it as for undervolting, the 4790K models would generally be higher binned, thus be able to hold specific clocks at lower voltages than the regular 4790 models. doesnt have to be the same for the S & T models though... as for undervolting, the 4790K models would generally be higher binned, thus be able to hold specific clocks at lower voltages than the regular 4790 models. doesnt have to be the same for the S & T models though...

No Optimus/Intel GPU? Geez...seems no matter which way you turn, there's always something less than "optimal" (pun intended) about laptops in general. Having the option of switchable graphics would have been awesome for those who intend to run cpu intensive applications that do not require a powerful gpu. Would have also probably saved on stressing-out the gpu (heat!)...I hate having to replace those things ($$).

But no matter. For me, the P770ZM is still the best option from a needs/price/performance point of view...as long as I can get it with a decent screen (still waiting for confirmation.......).
-

Would've been nice if switchable on boot at least. My laptops are mostly DTR's but when I go mobile I usually don't need the discrete graphics.
-
These look really good, anyone know the HZ options in terms of screens? Im looking for something with 120hz/144hz ideally.
-

Is the "Model B" pictured in the P770ZM Manual the same as the P771ZM?
I didn't know some models don't have the subwoofer.
-

So ideally 2h runntime on battery? Nvidia doesn't have a low power mode or something or is that 2h the lowest 970/980m get? Last edited: Jan 13, 2015
-

model A is the 15 inch version without subwoofer, model B is the 17 inch version with subwoofer, so no worries

the 1 is for black exhaust fans, whereas the 0 is for chrome accented exhaust fans. thats pretty much it!

this is for medium usage. check the OP of the batcave (see my signature) for a review on maximum battery life of the 15 inch with 980M Last edited: Jan 13, 2015 Last edited: Jan 13, 2015

 Thank you! All clear now!!!

How hard will it be to repaste this thing is both heatsinks are one piece? More challenging? New technique? Just glob it on like most OEM's do?
-

the pasting technique wont change, no matter what kind of shape the heatsink has line method / corn of rice method / cross method still applies here. just that u always have to repaste both cpu & gpu every time, since the heatsinks are connected.

Still kinda disappointed that there's no upgrade on screens for the 770ZM :/
-

 Give it time.
-
Meaker@Sager Company RepresentativeI have yet to see any higher resolution 17.3" panels around.
-
I mean higher gamut/faster response time panels. I'm fine with 1080p.
-
Meaker@Sager Company RepresentativeThey are not widely available either yet, as said more time is needed for them to come out.
-

Eurocom is offering 3 screens for this model, and provides manufacturer and model information for those screens. Mythlogic is offering 2 screens...a 60% NTSC and a 72% NTSC, both matte, but no manufacturer/model info (perhaps you can get it if you call them). I haven't made the rounds today, but last I checked other vendors offer 1 screen, and have a generic description that does not give specifics.
-
Eurocom is pretty expensive and not in the US *sigh* :/

Mythlogic doesn't offer the AUO B173HW01.

I'll email some of the resellers in the US and see if they can add it as an option for this laptop.
-
Last time I ordered from them, I wasn't charged tax. I'm not sure if it's because they're a Canadian company or if it's already included in the price and if you're a student, you get 10% off so it may end up being a good deal
-

iirc eurocom has a shipping location in nyc, so if they ship from there its no surprise one wouldnt have to pay taxes
-
So far this is what the retailers are saying.

Prostar: Said that screen upgrades will be coming to the 77xZM at March, but unsure of the specific model.
Xotic: Sager does not offer us a different screen for the 77xZM.
Mythlogic: The specific screen is for a new batch of the 77xZM, will contact back once it is available.
PowerNotebooks: Not available if it is not listed on the customization page.
-

Guess it's true...good things come to those who wait!
-
RJtech (barebone): Sager does not offer us a different model screens at this time.
-
Support.1@XOTIC PC Company RepresentativeTo make it easy for you, All Sager resellers will only be able to offer what Sager offers. So to sum it up:

Sager Resellers - Display options will be offered when Sager offers it
-

I'm wondering why Clevo can't offer the 17" LG IPS screens.. That would have made me jump and get the P770ZM but since they didn't, I just decided to stick to the M17x R4...
-

there are other shops independent from sager, u know
-
I think Eurocom just installs the screen on their own.
-

I think eurocom prices are a little high. Similarly configured system from most USA resellers and eurcom is a big difference just to get a better option screen. And as of now, 2 of their options are chi mei and 90% gamut AUO.
-

I feel you, Pukemon...and the price of Eurocom's 3 year warranty ($344) is just mind-boggling, and just that alone inflates the price over some Sager resellers by almost $200!
-

Yep. This has been the slight case when they were the first ones to release a few years ago. Wonder what they might do this time
-
I wonder if xotic will honor warranty if the laptop's screen is changed by the user, because you can buy the standalone upgrade panel from china for around $95 incl shipping. It seems a bit expensive but at least it will still be cheaper than buying directly from Eurocom.
-

they will honor it, just that it wont cover the screen itself or any damage to the bezel surrounding it if it was caused during the swap, naturally
-
the default screen in P770ZM is chimei CMO1720 ( in my batch )

i only played black flag for 2 hours so far and the temp of both CPU ( 4790 ) and GPU (980m) never passed 75 degree celsius without setting the fan to max

also i notice there is no more fn+5 to turn on and off the subwoofer like in my old Sager NP8170
-

check the user manual, maybe the button combo to switch on/off the sub is a different one now
