We have the 370 coffee lake motherboard, still don’t get what it has to do with gsync not being available on the TM-R ?

Short version. G-Sync was never an option for the (R). No built in support for the 20 series cards either. Along with no Nvidia driver support or Clevo support. Thanks to @Prema and pressure from the powers that be, you are getting G-Sync for a 3k Panel. If you had 4K, I think that is active already.raz8020, Cass-Olé, ssj92 and 1 other person like this.

But the TM1 offered gsync with the 1080s, only change in the TM-R is the GPU to the rtx 2080 which supports gsync, along with the same exact 3K panel, which also supports gsync. Even HID assumed at one point that gsync would be supported right from the start. Either way, glad we have Prema and HID pushing this.

All I can say is. I worked on the project...

In that case, thank you too! I appreciate it. Cause gsync is my everything, I’m blind without it.

I have to admit, I was using g-sync quite a bit in gaming. LOL

I was always going to dual boot so installed windows first and then backed up the partitions(s). Then started installing ubuntu 16 and on reboot I get just a black screen. I have an old image of ubuntu and It also didn't start the wifi during install to download updates. Two questions and request advice.
Which thread should I post such questions about loading ubuntu + dual boot ?
Which image of ubuntu should I go for ? 16 or the new lts ? ( ie 18 ? ) -

Not a large unix community on here. You'll need s version with support for the latest chipset of course.

This is my first time using the Prema bios and hope someone would post a video or a written guide to the various menus in there. I am also specificially trying to see how to disable secure boot in the options.
I created a rescue disk using macrium reflect but the system doesn't properly boot from it. The system just shows a blank screen after booting. I wonder why this is so and what options to choose to create a working macrium usb ! Any help appreciated ! -

Try to use Acronis. I have the same problem with macrium on Clevo. With last Acronis update everything works fine.

I would also be interested in seeing if this is possible!

To disable secure boot:
1: Enter bios
2: Security menu
3: Set secure boot to disabled.
4: Exit
5: Save changes and reset. -
In regards to Linux questions on NBR, post stuff here - http://forum.notebookreview.com/forums/linux-compatibility-and-software.1029/
For the question of Ubuntu 16 or 18, assuming you have full driver support with all the different components of your laptop/computer, 18 would be my recommendation as it has the latest and greatest stuff.

Wow, thanks for posting that, could you give more details on what needs modding? I have the same cooler, seconds away from ordering a 2080. It looks like you've added two little copper pads and then sanded down the two parts that cover the memory on the GTX 1080 to make space for the inductors on the RTX 2080, is that right?Last edited: Feb 28, 2019

Thanks @Johnsksss but I don' t see any option called " secure boot " in the security menu in there. I will try to post screenshots and ask youJohnksss likes this.

As a friend pointed out to me.....If you are booting windows 7 or csm enabled then secure boot is disabled by default. Or if you do not select win8+, it's disabled.varunreeves and jaybee83 like this.

How to create a Macrium reflect rescue disk
I was able to figure it out. I was also able to figure out how to get a rescue disk to work on the p870tm-r using macrium reflect. In the interest of helping the community I wanted to put down the main steps that I followed. I hope it helps some people. Please let me know if I should post it elsewhere too so others can benefit.
Machine : P870tm-r with @Prema 's BIOS updated as of Feb 2019. For details see signature. ( Note: I tested the restore after back up and it did it nicely)
Applications / resources needed : Macrium reflect 7 (needed) . External hard drive for back up (preferable to have), external usb (needed), rufus (needed)
Goal :
- To dual boot Windows 10 Pro and Ubuntu 18.04 lts and to have a disk image for easy recovery for either one or both OS. (Still in progress..Have windows now but no win + linux dual boot yet)
- To create a UEFI environment bootable usb macrium reflect usb that can be used as a rescue disk to recover partitions.
- To Create a multiboot UEFI enviroment supported bootable usb which can have a recovery environment and also installable OS ( like ubuntu , windows etc) plus has utilities like Hiren's boot. This goal is a later one as I am more focussed on getting 2 above at the moment. Also, creating a NON uefi supported ( ie legacy supported) multiboot usb drive is much simpler and I already have that.
- Understanding the comprehensive Unlocked Bios options without a tutorial ! Older tutorials helped but some options are also new
- Macrium reflect disk shows up as an alternative for UEFI boot on pressing f7 during load screen but after selecting it and pressing enter you get to a blank screen.
- Creating a rescue disk directly from macrium didn't work but creating an ISO and then creating a bootable usb using rufus and the iso worked ! It should be the same thing but it isn't
- During installing the OS make sure you had ONLY ONE hard drive in the computer . If not, windows will install the boot partition on whichever disk it numbers lower and install your OS on the disk you specified ( which might not be the lower numbered disk). If this happens , backup and restore will be much more difficult.
- Install Macrium reflect and backup the three volumes (Assuming you have windows 10 installed on a disk and nothing else) ie the windows drive ( usually C: , the EFI drive and a third small drive windows creates), to another drive. Also, back a copy of the created back up onto an external drive just to be very sure
. - Ultra Male has a nice guide on using macrium to backup disks and I suggest you watch that
- Follow along ultraMales guide (also in the video above) to add a recovery menu for when you need to restore your partitions and can boot into windows to do so. The recovery disk is used when you can NOT boot into windows at all !
- Creating the recovery / rescue disk :
- Open macrium reflect -> Choose 'Other Tasks' (left column ) -> Choose Create bootable Rescue media -> Choose "ISO file" (dont' choose build yet but goto advanced ) -->
- A window pops up --> Choose Base WIM ( choose Windows PE 10 (WADK) --> Goto options tab and choose any options ( or let it be default ) --> Rescue media tab (make sure C: drive is checked) --> click ok
- Now click build and note the location of the built ISO file.
- Download rufus ( I used version 3.4). Insert emty usb drive, provide ISO location created above to rufus and the location of inserted usb and let it create the usb.
- Open macrium reflect -> Choose 'Other Tasks' (left column ) -> Choose Create bootable Rescue media -> Choose "ISO file" (dont' choose build yet but goto advanced ) -->
- Now to run the rescue media on the TM-r with Prema's bios
- Restart computer, Keep F2 button depressed during EVOC loading screen until you get to Prema bios.
- Make sure the following options are as follows :
- Advanced -> USB Configuration -> Legacy USB Support : Enabled
- Advanced --> Csm configuration -> csm support : Disabled
- Security --> Secure boot : Disabled
- Save and reload, Insert the rescue USB created above, Press F7 during load this time (not F2) to bring bootloading menu and choose your usb.
- The loading should go through and the screen turns blank for a few seconds and then the macrium environment loads up !!!
- My next tasks are to install a working ubuntu and then to back up both !

@ Johnksss I asked if you could give more details on what you need to change on the vapour chamber heatsink to make it work with the 2080.
Last edited: Feb 28, 2019 -
You need to cut one side down while adding the the copper shim to the other side. The cutting side takes longer as to how pretty you want it to look.
-
So, the copper part you cut down is stacked on top of the vapour chamber? It won't make a hole in it unless you go deeper than the layer below, right? In your picture it looks like you have some copper tape on the one side.
-
You only need to shave down enough material to clear the component. The other side you need a shim. That is to cover the Exposed memory chip. There is no copper tape.Hterag likes this.

A taller pad if you really want to cover the memory chip should be fine, they don't produce a lot of heat.

Hello Everyone,
One of our members here @DARCODER is curious about my BIOS and its settings and PM'd me to send him " a copy of my BIOS backup" for his personal use. I personally found this kind of underhanded + a little shady (my personal feeling) as HID and other @Prema partners supply the bios only directly in systems bought from them. I informed him as much clearly and also asked him to post in general on the forum so that if prema himself wants , he can share else it will be out in the open if he is honest about it. But I am not sure if he got the point and has pm'd me again so I hereby post a screenshot of the communication. Hope @Prema and @Donald@HIDevolution see this and do what they deem fit.
------ The screenshot seems to have been removed due to forum policies so I will post some lines from the conversation itself
DARKY-draco-boy (tagged above) --> i have a p870km1-g and i post a thread how to mod ourself our bios to add abilities and other options here the link for any p870.i would like to ask you if you can share me your bios backup so i can take a look what they inject to make compatibility with the new RTX as i want to update to that gpu to my system. I don't share any informations or will share your bios, it is only for me.
Me: I Hope you are aware that Prema bios is a Proprietary piece of software and asking about it in this underhanded fashion rather than directly in the forum tells me you might be someone happy in duping an unsuspecting enthusiast to make a copy and give it to you ! I am likely to post a screenshot of the conversation on the forum itself .
----------------------------
@DARCODER my advise to you is to not PM me but ask these guys for what you need about the bios. If you want to ask me something about my system that is non-proprietary I am happy to oblige else what you are doing seems to have shades of grey !Last edited: Mar 2, 2019jclausius, cj_miranda23, raz8020 and 2 others like this. -

He didnt share my answer seeing that since its Prema i don't need the bios so i ask him others info. You can share my answer because i didnt ask you back the bios and saying like i did it is not fair. It's not nice from members to compare me from someone who share a non personnal work just because i ask a bios without knowing it still was Prema work and directly judging...this is an easy blame not needed.
-
Both have HIDevolution banners flashing in their sig. You mean you haven’t seen it? Even added “Donald Edition”.
-
Even i dont see the banners bcse im on phone most of time as i said i didnt knew it was Prema. Even if it was Prema or someone else it is the same, i am not here to share someone else work. Im here in thos forum lile i was since for the beginning, helping and mod without any mean of stealing or sharing other members and from others members work. I just ask a bios, he told me it was from Prema this is finish so i ask other questions. I also send message to others members at same time. When one inform me it is prema work so i answer him and i send back to others members a msg saying i dont need their bios without the need they answered me before.
So im sorry but you are judging me too soon because i didnt share anything, i even didnt receive the information if .inf mod file is needed for rtx. -

I have in the past when tolerances were close and it had good spread and not a great distance to travel. I often use K5 Pro on my laptops now because it's easy to use and works great when I don't need every ounce of cooling.toughasnails likes this. -
Humm, but in the picture as you can see...that paste is not even touching everything.... And the left side isn't touching at all.
And the layout is different for a 2070 than a 2080 as well. That heat sink would have your card overheating inside of 2 minutes of use from power on.(2080) -

Can someone please explain to be one thing. I have access to the e-channel of Clevo and i haven't seen anything on BIOS regarding the P870TM-R or official service manuals of even photos in their e-channel. So if I'm not mistaken, this laptop is basically a P870TM1-G with proper BIOS support for i9 and a vBios for RTX cards. Right? Or am I wrong?
