Yeah, I replaced the keyboard once. 2nd keyboard had the same problems days after the warranty expired. Now I just accept that I am using an external keyboard.

Fan fix is cheap, but $80-100 to replace a keyboard and just have the next one break and need replacement because of the same problems a little more than a month after the swap is to expensive for me to keep trying that.
We will see about the monitor. Right now I am not even testing it because the fan noise is too loud to even turn on the PC. Will check it out more when the lubricant comes tomorrow.
My biggest problem is that these are all problems I have never had to deal with on a laptop before. Before this my biggest problems were batteries getting weaker and laptops running slower over time.
Edit: correction, I did have one of the first 17 inch Dell Vostro laptops more than 10 years ago and was disappointed by it but cannot remember why.Last edited: May 1, 2021 -
$100 for the keyboard? Wow, from my reseller it was only around 20 GBP.

If they can ship it out for you to fit is the best usually, not hard to do.
-
Can you post a short audio/video clip of the sound of the fan? Fans make different sounds depending on the fault.
For me, the keyboard is about $60 + another $60 shipping. And now we have a lockdown because of the damned virus, so even that is difficult. I'm reduced to using an external wireless keyboard. -

Hopefully the vaccine program kicks the virus and we can get back to normal. Then the supply chain just needs to settle down.

can you link a shop/seller who sold you for 20 pounds the keyboard? my p950 keyboard dying again, cheapest I found was around 65$ from aliexpress.

20 pounds (27 dollars or so) does seem a bit low to me, 65 is more common.

This will work. I changed on my laptop, they increased the price a bit from my last purchase...
I would suggest buying a normal keyboard and use it as the main input device and use a laptop keyboard only when you are in a mobile situation. -

That's what I do, I like my mechanical switches too much.

I saw your post "How do you disconnect the EDP display cable from the motherboard site".
I have a flickering display problem and would like to change the EDP cable.
When I was trying to pull it out from the motherboard it's just not going. I'm afraid to broke something on the motherboard, because of force which I'm applying textolite is bending.
Could you please make a small video on how to pull out the cable from the motherboard side if it's possible? Would really appreciate it. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
If it has a little pull tab on it which IIRC it is then it pulls straight up away from the motherboard.
-
Thx! Pulled harder a bit and disconnected the cable. Usually, I'm afraid to apply too much pressure on electronics.
Was disconnecting the front panel from the display and broke one of the small plastic hinges inside the panel. Whatever...
Ordered a new cable from aliexperss. Will see if the problem will appear again, at least I will have cable for replacement in the future. -

Better to ask with laptops before, some people did not check... It got expensive.
-
I don't have the laptop anymore so can't make a video, but you have to pull it upwards (away from motherboard) not sideways. You do have to use a bit of force, but not too much and it might help to wiggle it a little bit.
Edit: nvm just saw you already sorted it, good luck with the replacement! -
Any idea where to get decent drivers for the sound card? It is getting to be more and more difficult with each iteration of Windows. I just reinstalled Windows 10 and I'm struggling. To further complicate matters, Windows has a default High Definition Audio driver that it reverts to when the Realtek driver is uninstalled, and then the new Realtek driver doesn't want to install. The Sound Blaster thing is driving me nuts. What Windows installs doesn't work, and the stuff bundled with Realtek doesn't show up anywhere.
Realtek High Definition Audio.

While we're at it, any suggestions for a driver for the webcam? Blasted Chicony cr@p. -

You can get a default set from us and move from there, generally you want that on first before updating.

Thanks. Btw. for some strange, extremely stupid reason, my ISP is blocking your website. Had to use a VPN.
I got the set for NP8952 / MODEL NUMBER: P950HR. The problem is that Windows really likes its own drivers, which get installed on reboot after cleaning by DDU, even with the internet disconnected.
EDIT: can't get it beyond this: Your audio device cannot be detected.
