I look forward to them.

Well I won't be posting pics anytime soon. My laptop is now delayed until 04/23. Which honestly leaves me a little jaded.

@Meaker@Sager, not sure if you can answer this, will sager be offering the NP8770S-S with a 1440p or 2160p panel upgrade option down the road? if so any idea how much it might cost? i would really love to get a higher resolution panel than the 1080p.

Meaker@Sager Company Representative
I don't have that sort of information in advance. For now, no.

Ahoy, I'm awaiting delivery of a PC70DS, should be arriving this weekend fingers crossed. UK supplier, model is Scan's 3XS Vengeance GL3080 (may be worth adding to product list at the top of thread?). Very excited to test it out. Coming in from a 2080 Super Max-Q so unsure of how much real-world difference I'll see. It's a DS-D specifically, so has a 240Hz panel apparently.

also the 3080 Max-Q is supposedly gonna be close the same performance of a 2080 Super Max-Q based on everything i have seen. im coming from a 1060 so its a significant upgrade for me, i hope its a decent upgrade for you as well. what were you running before?Last edited: Mar 31, 2021 -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
I'd assume the same performance wise.
-
- Newer model = maybe more compatibility with this next generation of drivers as they get updated
- Smaller GPU architecture = better power efficiency, so *maybe* it will run a little cooler than the 2080?
- I'd hope going from 8GB VRAM to 16GB VRAM would see an improved capacity for higher in-game shader settings at the same FPS performance

based on the pictures provided on their site, it looks like the multizone model. im assuming since you also got the custom build that it will come with that.
-
i'm gonna wait for the intel 11th Gen before making a move
Please do some benchmark on 3080 since is a Max-Q 90W (Dynamic boost to 105W) - i'm less optimistic on the performance since Gigabyte Aorus 15P can cramp in 130W on a super thin chassis, i don't see why is not happening on Sager thin chassis notebook as well -

The ram is nice for long term use so fair enough on that.

So, it's arrived. First thing to note, it has a 10870H in it, not the 10875H. I've emailed my reseller, but I'm fairly confident it's a mistake in their listing rather than a mistake in what I've been sent, but either way is ****ty and I'm not sure what I can do about it. I can also confirm that it is a single zone RGB keyboard as I initially thought, with just a misleading picture in the listing. Sucks to be feeling a little crestfallen instead of nothing but excitement, but oh well!
Photos below, and let me know what benchmarks y'all want me to run.

as much as it pains me i cancelled my order. due to the fact that there is not ship date on it. maybe once things clear up down the road ill reorder the system.

Its a rough time at the moment for parts, hopefully things get at least a little better.
-
do the 3080 hit 105W consistently or only during heavy load ? -

You should be able to push it to at least 10.000, cf. NBR's results: https://www.notebookcheck.net/Schen...ightweight-High-End-All-Rounder.526379.0.html
Using the laptop's display yours is closer to last year's 2080 maxq. -

Make sure you're using the Performance power profile
Undervolt the CPU with Throttlestop (note that you can also change the TGP there)
Undervolt the GPU with Afterburner using the curve method -
-
BrightSmith Notebook Evangelist
You can't brick it when undervolting. Just start with a conservative -50mV for the cpu and then move up until your system becomes unstable during either idle or load scenarios. Unstable means bsods etc, which won't brick your machine. The voltage curve in Afterburner for the gpu is a bit more work but also not dangerous at all.
E.g. I'm running a typical -100mV for the cpu. Do a search on the forum how to use Throttlestop and Afterburner. -
-
Furthermore, Afterburner won't even scan, it fails every time. Normal and legacy scan mode. Any thoughts/help appreciated!
-
BrightSmith Notebook Evangelist
Weird that Throttlestop crashes. Try uninstall and reinstall and set undervolt at last safe setting? -100mv? Check the bsod logs?
What do you mean with Afterburner scan? The auto OC feature? It's buggy on laptop gpus. Have you tried changing the voltage curve?Last edited: Apr 7, 2021 -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Yeah ctrl + f and modify the curve is the only proper way.
-
I think there was a 30 MHz overclock/undervolt using the NVIDIA auto tuning feature of GeForce Experience, but even without any tuning it is around 9800-9900 on the graphics score. -
BrightSmith Notebook Evangelist
It's a low TDP variant of the rtx 3070 so that score is ok I think.

Hi guys,
I recently lost my 5 year old laptop during a GPU replacement gone awry.
Disappointment and frustration aside (it was a pretty decent DTR and planning to keep it as back up, while waiting for the market to settle down before buying a new laptop) I found this model that on paper seems on a pretty sweet spot between price and performance, and more importantly still available for purchase among many resellers.
I would still like to learn a bit more about it before fully committing, in particular about its thermals, given its thin profile, compared to beefy DTRs. And if it other design flaws have been noticed yet (like the need to unscrew the back to remove the battery, which in this day and age, seems almost made only to annoy people).
I am planning a configuration with 3070 max-q, as the increase in performance and specs compared to the 3080 max-q seems too negligible for the current price difference.
And with a i7-10870H, rather than a i7-10875H, for the same reasons as above.
Another question regard the possible availability of Prema modded bios, and if any of you guys has had the chance to use it on this machine (or have come across any video or review detailing the improvements for this particular model of laptop).
I am also looking for Prema partners in Europe, as I have not been able to find any updated information about it yet, in this forum and elsewhere.
Cheers -

There's no prema mod for this series. If you want a dtr I suggest Clevo's X170KM. If you want thin and light, the new Tongfang models are much more capable than Clevo's PC series (see in 'Other Manufacturers' on this forum).
Installed64 and Drazil like this. -
Thank you for the reply, in a way it's reassuring point, as I won't be tempted to mess with the extra bios settings and try my luck with overclocking. Plus I have not been able to find European prema partners yet, anyway.
In regard to going for the X170KM, I still have it under my radar, but it's double the cost compared to the pcc70dp, offering only a quarter more performance, hence the better cost\performance ration I was referring to in my previous message.
Besides, I imagine full power RTX 30 series cards are overpriced at the moment, due to these crazy times, and without modded bios and heatsink, I have read they can easily make a laptop double as space heater.
What has been bothering me the most is the shortage\lack of reviews on this laptop models, that's why I hope to hear from actual owners of it, to know if it gets too warm, and if it has any other flaws to consider. -
BrightSmith Notebook Evangelist
Compare notebookcheck's reviews of the XMG Pro (this series) with XMG Neo (tongfang). The latter gives better performance for a better price.
Drazil likes this. -
I have read elsewhere that Tongfang makes laptops with soldered gpus and cpus, so I prefer to avoid their products, just in the off chance I need to replace those pieces myself.
Another weird thing about this model is the apparent lack of a manual. I have been looking for it for hours, with no luck, so I am starting to suspect I may be using the wrong designation.
It would be good to have it, to check its internals and specs. I remember it coming in handy many times with my P771dm. -
BrightSmith Notebook Evangelist
Clevo's PC series is also fully soldered, the X170KM is the only laptop in 2021 that is not BGA.
