Here's my bad screen:
![]()
Right side bottom half part of the screen, very noticeable when the screen is dark, not so noticeable when bright colors are on it looks like a smudge. its weird though (when you look closely at it when its on the booting screen you can see red pixels.
Sorry for the lower quality pic, its just the lighting sucks.
Also my fan makes a hard drive like rattling sound... I hope the new unit they send me (they are offering me cross shipping) doesn't have these issues. I might ask about extending the warranty to two years and adding the zero dead pixel warranty. (since mine has a dead pixel)
also I'm on 311.54 and that's all I can get to work with it (the driver on the disk)
I love the laptop though and I am not giving up, my only concern is the thing is going to be a grease/finger print magnet (the opposite side of the LCD) because of the dark rubbery texture. most amazing screen ever on any laptop.
here's my 3dmark score:

compared to my W110ER score (overclocked):

still has nothing on my desktop though![]()

the fan profiles on this thing are weird though the fans will go full blast (with a rattle) for a split second then go back to the quiet but rattly noise I mentioned earlier.. I hope this next one i get has none of these problems. (that fan sounds terrible though)
-
naaaaaa, thats just fate lol
-
The half a dime white circle thingy seems to be a defect called screen bruising so definitely get that exchange.
Regarding the rattling noise on your fan, that don't sound good and the fan blade might be hitting something internally so get that check out too. Which reseller did you buy your w230st from? -
Directly from Sager themselves. They are replacing my whole unit, they said they will offer cross-shipping to replace it. (I will talk to them to get more details Monday)
-
I have a similar issue with my laptop. It's also being handled splendidly and getting my whole unit replaced. Just hope the vRAM can overclock +600MHz like this unit!
-
Which? The fan issue or the screen issue? I agree Sager is really handling the exchanges well. Just asked for pictures and the serial number.
-
The screen issue. I have one of those "bruises" too.
-
Darn, that's too bad
Well I hope this gets all sorted out next week and we both get lucky with our next screens! (did you get any dead pixels? I got 1) I really like this screen a lot, its beautiful! my only complaint is maybe its too dark at times, that's all. -
Too dark? Only at minimum brightness, needs 20-30% to really be usable. Full brightness it's like the sun, lol.
-
Is Larry of LPC handling your rma/exchange HT? Is he sending you a replacement and a shipping label to reduce downtime??
-
He is handling it although I'm in no rush. Hoping he can take care of fulfilling orders first.
I know it'll get replaced soon enough. However he wants to handle it is fine with me, although I did request cross shipment. Sounds like that may happen.
-
Good to know HT. Can you also take a picture of your screen defect when you can so we could compare it with gooface. Also why get the whole system replaced if you can just get a panel replacement or repaired so you wont risk getting a lemon within the mobo or the voltage mods.
-
At the moment they will only do a system replacement. Or if I wanted to wait for a couple weeks or so for them to repair it, I probably could but I'm not willing to part with my new machine that long. And if I get a lemon, I get another replacement, ad nauseum, until they get it right. With an HP laptop I bought several years ago, I went through no fewer than four laptops until they finally shipped me one that was "right". Stuff happens, I don't care. It's the service that matters, and if they take care of the problem, I'm happy. With Sager I believe they actually spend a little time with the replacement laptops to make sure they're good.
There's nothing about this system that would warrant me NOT to keep one. The LCD is a minor hiccup that can happen with any OEM and any laptop. -
I feel the same way, I have my laptop, it could have been way worse (artifacting and such) but as long as they deal with me in a proper and timely manner (dont charge me shipping, etc) I am fine with replacements.
-
Other people who've got their W230ST already---any screen blemishes/rattly fan noise?
-
Did anyone try to connect WQHD monitor to W230ST's HDMI port? From what I understand nVIDIA GeForce GTX 765M should support 2560x1440 resolution just fine, however I saw warning that certain monitors would not work with laptops. Any thoughts?
-
If I had that resolution LCD I would definitely try....
By the way Clevo FINALLY posted the drivers and manual on their website. Only Windows 8 drivers though.
CLEVO - Download -
The downloads are not working.
-
I am experiencing really weird behavior on Just Cause 2, I get 60+ FPS then after like 4 seconds of running around it slows down to almost a crawl... then I got into the menu and go back into the game without changing any settings and its back at 60+ fps again and then it goes back to crawling after that... even after setting everything to lowest it does this.
-
Are temps about the same as they are in other games? If so that's a real puzzle you've got there.
-
nope temps are fine and low since I have a laptop cooling pad.not even 60c on the cpu or gpu.
edit: weird... after updating my intel integrated drivers to the latest ones on station drivers (9.18.10.3234) the issue is gone..
-
About Just Cause 2: Read here Just Cause 2 - common problems (with solutions) - Steam Users' Forums , Point #4. Just Cause 2 somehow manages it to slip through nvidia-optimus and thus uses the integrated gfx
-
hmmm well updating the intel driver seems to have fixed it (I wouldnt think the newer drivers from 2013 would have these issues on a game from 2010)
The game runs great now, cept when you enable the nvidia specific features the game goes black and crashes. -
Try forcing it to use the 765M through the Nvidia control panel.
-
Finally bit the bullet after the talk and purchased. Has there been some consensus on what cooling solution to do for harder gaming? Laptop balls enough or a cooler?
-
Can you keep us updated about this? I'm going to try to email them with a similar request -- I want to buy in Germany if i can but I have some special conditions... I just emailed them now.
ETA: A few more emails and they pointed me to this: http://hawkforce.de/product_info.php?products_id=76 !!! Excited!!! -
Undervolt.
-
Has the forum come to a consensus on the 4700 vs 4702 (CPU) issue? The vendor I'm talking to is asking €40 to "upgrade" to 4702.
Is the 4702 completely pointless if I just use ThrottleStop? -
I'm looking to buy from germany or the uk, but they don't seem to offer a keyboard choice option. Have you got any more info?
From germany I think I'd rather wait for shenker. -
In my email discussion they offered a US or UK keyboard. He said just to make a comment about it when ordering.
I know schenker is the "bigger" seller, but it sounds like HawkForce gets decent rep around here. He's also offering "his best price" for NBR forum members -- he responded *very* quickly to my emails. -
Art4ull Dodg4ar!!! Notebook Consultant
Hello to all my UK maties, it has finally landed in the hands of PCSpecialist if you wana head over there an see if it meets your requirements that will be great

We don't get Intel WiDi on this do we? Then why do they have Clevo drivers for it on the Clevo site for this model?
-
ARK | Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260
Yes, it does support Intel® Wireless Display. Only if you opt for Intel WLAN of course. -
I was told that WiDi works on any system with HD3000 or later, that uses an Intel wireless card. Why would you think it wouldn't work here? (as long as you buy a config that includes Intel wireless...)
-
Thanks. Never done it before. Just try to follow what you outlined in this topic/your impressions topic? edit: I guess what I'm asking is: any tips for the novice?
-
Go look at his 7330 first impressions thread and the 7330 review thread for more info. Both are in this sub-forum... (and should be linked in his .sig)
-
Download Intel XTU and adjust the CPU voltage -50mV, stress it for a while, drop another -50mV (to ~ -100mV) and stress it for a while, then perhaps drop by -20mV at a time until it starts to lock up or crash.
You should be able to do the same with the cache voltage. It's adjustable as well.
Once the system crashes I usually bump up 20mV then stress test longer and with more apps/benchmarks and see if it's stable. Lather, rinse, repeat.
I guess I could do a quick write-up/video on it if it would help. -
that would be lovely.
i'm hoping one of the community members would be willing to write-up a comprehensive guide so owners of the w230st will have a sense of how best to optimize for battery life/noise/heat. -
I'll add it to my to do list. But if someone else gets to it before I do, all the more power to them!
-
Thanks! A writeup would be cool for the community at large, but this should be enough for me to get playing with it once it gets here.
-
Is it safe to be undervolting? Or to be having the computer locking up and crashing while you optimize the voltage? I googled it and others seem to say its relatively safe, but I'd like another opinion.
-
but i actually like you comprehensive reviews. i need someone to go on youtube and show me them pressing the mouse buttons so i can hear how loud they are. cant have a stiff clicky laptop like those big asus gaming laptops.
-
undervolting really is one of the safest forms of modification. As in you have no chance of damaging through excessive heat or voltage/current.
As to the crashing that's just part of finding how low you can lower the voltage and is no more dangerous than any other crash or kernel panic.

Woohoo! The status on my order from XPC changed to "Shipping to Xotic PC Nebraska plant"! One step (week) closer to getting my new toy
-
Dude, if you could make a tutorial video on how to undervolt the CPU and GPU, that would be extremely appreciated. I want to undervolt my Chaos 1313 to conserve battery life, and lower the temps on this little beast of a machine.
Let's us know when you make a video. -
PC Specialist aren't offering the intel ac wifi either. Sure, my current router is only N, but I intend to have this thing for a while, and I believe in future-proofing in any case. It also makes me wonder if the UK batch will have the "lesser" screen, if they're not getting the top-flight options on other parts.
-
Has anyone else ordered their laptops through Mythlogic? I ordered back on the 15th, and the order status has said "Payment Complete" for almost a week now without any progress. Has this been the case for anyone else?
I am without a gaming capable computer until this arrives, so I'm getting somewhat antsy, especially with everyone's orders coming in already. -
Same here. Borrowed my friend's netbook for the time being, but even moderate surfing lags this thing, lol.
-
Mine is now at "In Build Queue". Give them some time. They do each of these laptops individually and stress test them. Plus, they didn't receive the Clevo units until last Thursday.
I'm getting a little antsy, as well, but we must be patient.
