After experiencing pretty much the same trend with MSI haswell GE 60 as well as Clevo W230ST, at this point I would point my finger at Nvidia reference model for motherboards with 765m GPU. GE 60 did pretty much the same thing as Clevo W230ST. There was no middle ground for the fan speed. It was either dead quiet or dead loud. But at least Clevo W230ST isolates the heat from reaching me. The heat got to me on GE60 which was why I returned the damn thing.
-
Not yet I usually only use it in power-saving and performance since I thought that changing those settings only tweaked with the power settings in control panel. Does quiet mode really change some setting for the fan?
-
Evening all,
I apologise if this has been asked and answered already, however has anyone ascertained the source / cause of the fan rattling, or found a solution?
Thank you for your help! -
Got mine today <3
Schenker Germany
Chi Mei Screen here. Seems like they got different screens then -
Not sure if other people are getting a rattling sound. The only thing I've been complaining about is how the fan behaves (0 to 100 speed) no middle-ground so it is like it bursts erratically. Currently it can only be fixed by a BIOS update that hopefully peeps are correct and Sager/Clevo are working on it.
-
I have seen several people comment on the rattling sound, both in KT Wingnuts review thread and review writers themselves. Unfortunately my friends system has the same problem

Lol That 2-3 weeks has been there for 2-3 weeks, i spoke to them via email an they have certain batches of UK keyboard arriving now an then, I just missed out on the last one, they said the next delivery is on 2nd of sep and their build time is a lot shorter than that of pcs, ur kidding about the basic config right lol
My config with pcs was £55 more than mysn also mysn have 7260 wifi card and pcs don't, my config came to £857 where as same config with mysn + 7260 comes to £802 you do the math lol.
Lol Cisco no I wish I was playing with it right now but my patients run out with pcs, too many lies about yeah your order will be dispatched on this date an on that date lie after lie I just got fed up pal, anyway I reckon they have stock now but they have lost my custom never again will i order from them grrrr lol

They seem to be big already, though not necessarily highest end. Which does not mean the W230ST display is not good or comparable with Chimei or AUO. Would be very curious to learn some figures (if you have a colorimeter, onkelosuppo). -
Anyone know if we can replace the speakers in this? Are there such things as aftermarket laptop speakers? I kinda miss my Alienware Klipsch speakers lol.
-
Interesting I went with PCS for the same reason, my config was £80 cheaper with them.
Just goes to show what shopping around can do. -
Thanks for the info. I don't have any professional tools. I will aks notebookcheck whether they want to put my screen to the test. Their test center is around the corner.
For now I can only say this much: I use only 50% screen brightness even during the day, because this thing is so bright. White comes out a real white. In comparison to my Dell U2412M it has little red tone.
I have it too. It sounds like an HDD constantly loading. At first I thought that's what it was, but I only have an SSD. So I consider it a "well known" sound.
-
Wooo my notebook is on its way from mysn.co.uk
Currently somewhere between Germany and here.... -
Dodger, what specs did you require?
xmg was nearly £100 more at £802 ( £94 to be exact) but i upgraded the wireless option to N6235 so the ariels are there should i get the chance for ac 7260 online somewhere. so my model is priced at £718 saving £84 and it could of been much lower if i wanted it to be and i still got more for my money than xmg had at base to inlude warranty upgrade and pixel cover for £19/year, but i got things i dont need to buy after in it. and these options arent on xmg AND i did see ETA 2-3 weeks so i thought might aswell save cash with pcs. Also already got 2x8gb 12800s just need 1/2 plextor 256gb msata. i can andle the wait/ i still got two laptops LOL. -
I ordered as well from PCS. I had to wait a bit (well, a lot more than a bit, around 3 weeks since they didn't have it in stock) but still I got the cheapest price.
They also replied always the same day.
Still waiting to receive it since I'm not living in UK. -
Ok thanks to a user at the notebookcheck.com forum I found some information on the panel in my W230ST. It is also used in the Samsung Series 9 Ultrabook and seems to be very nice.

Well sisco my specs were,
CPU 4700
Ram 4gb
Hdd 750gb
Thermal paste
Bigfoot 1202
No os
2 yr RTB
1 yr pixel guarantee
That came to about £857 give or take £5
And the same spec with mysn comes to £802 but with a intel ac 7260 wifi card,
But I think you guys config it to the most basic spec so probably it works out cheaper on pcs, as one of you mentioned the RTB comes as standard with mysn an you can discount it with pcs so that makes it cheaper I guess.

Are you sure you removed the Windows licence (which costs about 90) on PCS site ? It is there at default config.
Edit: oh I didn't notice you took a longer guarantee, maybe that is where the extra cost comes from
.
-
Curious about this too. Has anyone installed the linked Intel HD Graphics 15.33.0.3262?
-
Yes they work fine.
-

Yeah idkv, I removed windows an extended the RTB warrantee, I would rather have that piece of mind, it was worth it i reckon, a few months ago I couldn't even play a game for 5 mins on my w110 before it shutting down for some unknown reason, they sent me a replacement fan but no luck an I sent it in an it turned out a faulty board, jus imagine if I didn't have the warrantee, my wallet wouldn't have been happy lol

i have mine since yesterday. loving it so far!
can you please tell me how do I turn bluetooth on?
thanks in advance -
I tried to do the same cofig but only achieved £828 max and that was picking 2x2gb ram so i dunno. and that was not including the discout. maybe thats why yours took so long. they couldnt figure this out too lol.
no i spec'd
cpu 4700
4gbx1
wd blue 750gb
no paste ( i have some ic diamond, plus i want to test it at default to see how the ic paste stacks and if im applying it righ as in too mucht)
intel 6235
no os
1yr RTB silver
1yr pixel guatantee
That priced up to £733 (That is no discount price)
i couldnt fault price. i payed for my lenovo edge e320 with i5+6330m as upgrades for around £650 plus an extra year warranty making it around £730 before i got a 10% that is only applied without VAT. so all in all around £680 but when i compare both machines pound for pound i had know which machine is defo worth cost.
I can handle 98C LOL cos my i7 2630qm gets 98c in when gaming for long periods and thats 13" so i think its something to do with the cooling which cant be helped i guess.
I can uderstand your fustration with the wait .so i ordered mine now based on that rather than waiting to sell 1 of my current ones 1st a so go crazy and do something like cancel lol.
Thats sods law with the warranty. i got the year one. watch now. i got the 2yr in my last laptop. not required. i go with one year on this model. and it die on 370th day or something... -
Fn+ESC to bring up Clevo Control Center. You will see the BT icon at the bottom. Click to activate/deactivate.
-
thank tou but i dont have those 2 icons on the bottom. i had to go to the share option (windows 8). does it stay ON all the time? will it have a major impact on battery?
-
Download the bluetooth realtek 64bit driver for the OS you have and then just connect it.

Yeah the prices do seem to fluctuate I don't have my laptop at hand, so can't check but I will have a look later, also what is this discount your talking about is there a discount off the final price that I don't know about lol
Sent from Space using Tapatalk 2 -
yea only £15 quid tho. but i wasnt placing an order till i found the code and applied it. if i do upgrade warranty ill just pretend the warranty was £54 instead of £69 for the extra year. but that can actually be extended 3 months before it expires if you want so i might see how i get on 1st before extending. likely will but at time of purchase ill be much happier to keep it as low as.

You have a wireless card installed right? -
Art4ull Dodg4ar!!! Notebook Consultant
lol so what is the code sisqo, you cant just say there is a code an not tell
, i was adding the 7200rpm hdd i think you applied the 5400rpm scorpio blue.
-
yes i do. everything works fine now. except those 2 icons (WiFi n BT) not showing on control Center. bit i can access to them in the airplane mode menu so not really a problem
-
LOL. the code is G4DPC. i didnt suspect at all you would pick the 7200 drive. i assumed you would have msata as main. so a hotter, louder and faster drive would be pointless as a slave(storage) but yea it was the blue i added. Lol you gonna reorder?
-
Yes I cleaned it thoroughly with alcohol and cue tips. There was no paste left on the dies or heatsinks after cleaning.
The temperatures have been stable and low for several days after I replaced the heatsink but didn't screw the screws in as tightly as before. Perhaps the tollerances of my heatsink plates are slightly too tight.
Either way it seems to be working fine. -
Art4ull Dodg4ar!!! Notebook Consultant
Yeah your right i already have a 256gb msata and 16gb of ram waiting patiently for this little beast
, you know the price difference between the 7200 an 5400 is squat so i thought i would future proof my hdd incase i decide to take my 256gb sata ssd out of my w110 an replace it with a hdd i would rather it be a 7200, i dont know i am still in 2 minds who to order from, with mysn they have the intel ac7260 which is very tempting i must admit, i already have 2 laptops like yourself so i aint gona jump the gun again
-
hmm for you then its prob best to order the wd black. you could just swap it and sell it. unless you like to keep them for a bit. but from guessing from the other users here. i dont have much doubt you will not user your w110er and it will still fetch a good fee making it almost like a part ex imo.
im just gonna upgrade the ac 7260 manually for around £20 from reselers or ebay at any chance. make sure you get the dual band one which i assume is attracting you to it. from there just mirror everything wingnut does with his LOL. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
If you have to get a HDD at all always get 7200rpm if possible, even if you just sell it, it will be easier to sell.
-

Yeah as soon as i get arnd to ordering this then sadly the W110 has to go, pm me if there are any interested parties , also i have a MSI GX660R
-
Ok when I play league, I always seem to spike from 80 to 500 ping once every minute while no one else is having an issue with spotty connections. Any idea what is wrong? I am using the AC dual 7260 card.

Slight offtopic, what is the least expensive solution to hook up a dell u2713hm to this machine? Is it possible at all ? AFAIK the specs of the monitor say 1440p is only available through DP and dvi, not through hdmi.

I get this with my laptop (no Clevo W230ST) too. What router do you use? Dual-Band? Are the other people with no issues using the same connection in your spot? Did you experience lag spikes before?
League of Legends is very sensible with wireless connections. A lot of people experience lag spikes through wireless. -
I had lag spikes, bad ones. I re installed the drivers from the clevo website and made sure I had separated ssid's for 5ghz and 2.4ghz. Before when I had the lag spikes it happened when both ssids were under the same name. It would go from 5ghz to 2.4ghz and the connection became terrible.
Fortunately now I only connect to 5ghz channel at 300mbps and have a full clear line of sight. Have not experienced any lag spikes again.

Well, here in Norway the only supplier of this machine is Multicom, and the delivery date has been pushed forward several times. I ordered mine 16. july, and now the delivery date says 30. august, still unconfirmed. Does anyone know if Clevo has problems with their supply? This waiting time is killing me.
-
Woop mine has arrived from mysn UK very well packed and the xmg livery isn't in your face.
Excuse the pink table but my daughter insisted on helping unbox it.

I used to experience the once-every-60-seconds lag spike with my old laptop (Atheros wireless-n card). I discovered it playing FPSs online via wifi. It had something to do with Windows 7's Wireless Zero Config service checking for a more preferred router every minute. I tried all sorts of manipulation of services, different wifi settings and drivers, even strange executables from the dark corners of the internet. Nothing that worked for everyone else made one bit of difference for me.
Until I found this.
I honestly don't know who wrote it, or remember where I found it (it was a few years back). It's a very simple executable that opens a command prompt and suppresses the lag-inducing behavior. I scanned it with all sorts of AV software before I tried it, and I'm 99.9999999% sure it's clean. The link above is a direct download from my personal dropbox account.
You can test it by opening up a command prompt and pinging your favorite web server. I use google because it's pretty much always going to be there. At the command prompt, just type: ping google.com -t
This will ping the server every second until you tell it to stop by hitting ctrl+c. If you let it run long enough (a minute or two) you will see your lag spike, identifiable by the latency increasing from something reasonable (5-20ms) to something unreasonable (500ms+). Now run wififix.exe and then try the ping test again. With any luck, no more lag spikes.
I don't know if it works on dual band cards, and I don't know if it works in Win8 (I suspect it will). I don't know if it will help you, but it certainly helped me. -

Reapola please check your screen for us an see what it is, as i am about to order from mysn but not sure what screens they have in their units, it will be greatly appreciated thanks  -
Could you explain on how you would go on about doing this? It would be much appreciated!

I still spiked with the program on :/
