BTW, this model is in stock and ready to build and ship with the 10th Gen CPUs from all authorized Sager dealers. The 11th Gen CPU's coming soon....

The max TGP 165W (150W + 15W Dynamic Boost) is capped in hardware by NVIDIA or theres a way to flash a new vbios with higher power limits like 200W?
-

AFAIK:
No higher power limit signed vBIOS
Can’t flash unsigned vBIOSraz8020 likes this. -
Is it doable by programer?

They have a sick price tag, 3k for 11700k, 3080S.

Very nice) Could anyone confirm if system is equipped with HDMI 2.1? Would be great.
Of course, 1440p panel option is, sadly, not present. May be they add it down the road.
Also, will it support PCIe 4.0 ssd with 11th gen cpus? I see MXM is 4.0, so should be the same for ssd) -
Acording to clevo.tw, the laptop:
- Support one M.2 2280 SSD PCIe Gen4x4 (depends on CPU / only with 11th gen)

I can confirm that the 4th slot that is separate is intended for that. As I have installed a 10850K not something that I would be able to test but that is how it is supposed to work.Papusan, Mister-Knister, raz8020 and 1 other person like this.

Is the 11th Gen a different socket than the 10th Gen or can you upgrade the older clevo from 10th to 11th Gen cpu?
-
win32asmguy Moderator Moderator
You would need a firmware with the 11th gen microcode integrated. The new adaptive boost floating turbo thing may need the firmware itself to be a newer version to work correctly or be exposed as an available option.jclausius likes this. -

It is confirmed by Clevo that this model does have a HDMI 2.1 port...

Alder lake will have the new LGA 1700 socket, rocket lake is still 1200. -

Same socket but 11th gen uses more of the pins for the m.2.

As I had a scale handy here is the weight of the X170KM-G that is quite a bit higher than some sources have it:
The laptop itself including the battery almost exactly comes out to 10 lbs while the whole bundle of 2 x power supplies, power supply cage and power cables comes out to another 5 lbs. So 15 lbs it is when taking this one on the road.
The brilliant setup where Clevo requires the owner to lug two 280W power supplies around to get normal performance has been kept for all versions including the one with the RTX 3060.Mister-Knister likes this. -

The top of the line flagship, desktop cpu Clevo machines were never designed for ones that need to go on the road on a regular basis (luging it around). Occasional travel has worked out alright for ones.

At least before Clevo did not go out of their way to make traveling with them harder than it had to be.
Weight and volume are unfortunately both an issue with air travel these days so Clevo should offer some kind of Y-adapter to connect one power supply to both sockets especially for hardware combinations that do not need more than one 280W adapter in the first place.
In the end I still love the X170 because of its second to none servicability and modularity and because it takes 128 GB of memory but I wish they would have invested more thoughts into the basic design and software and less into LED strips

You can also get this splitter so you only have to take up one outlet: https://www.amazon.com/Cable-Leader...+x2+16awg&qid=1605058991&s=electronics&sr=1-2
That way none of us have to be the douche that hogs more than one power outlet to ourselves at the airport.
The only thing this laptop is missing is a MUX switch. If it had one, it'd be the ultimate laptop. Yes, I know DTRs are not meant for ultra long battery life, but that would be an easy way to get significantly longer runtime off the laptop when needed.Jaces9900, Papusan, 1610ftw and 1 other person like this. -

It would take power phases from core power supply or make the machine bigger. -
Hey! Everything has been invented for a long time and is on sale, one 660 watt power supply with two power plugs)))) you just need to re-solder your cable from X170. But you can negotiate with the supplier and maybe he can make this cable suitable for the X170

That power supply looks a lot like the one from Eurocom. Did somebody else start making these too? That'd be awesome since Eurocom's 780 watt power supply is ridiculously overpriced.
-
Yes, these are power supplies similar to Eurocom, but from another manufacturer and significantly cheaper, and also have real 660 watts, these power supplies were based on power supplies from servers.

People in the x170smg forum were against using this supply.

Specifically these power supplies? Give a link, I want to read what is the problem.

You were probably a little mistaken, there was a talk about a 780-watt Eurocom power supply unit, and here in the photo there is a completely different power supply unit,

Have you tested it? I would never use something beside stock supplyS.K and Spartan@HIDevolution like this.

What is the price tag on one of this puppies, and where to buy them from?
-
Not tested on X170, but works fine on p870TM1-G

Nice! That is a far more reasonable price. It's still expensive, but not ludicrously so.

Hi there, is this the case for RTX 3070 or just the RTX 3080?
Thanks!

For this generation of mobile cards the 3060 and 3070 are definitely less gimped than the 3080!
-
The mobile 3060 will be the closest to its desktop counterpart in performance. The extra 6 GB of VRAM on the desktop card doesn't mean anything since you won't be able to take advantage of it.
-
yrekabakery Notebook Virtuoso
To be fair, the mobile 3060 also has more CUDA cores, and the desktop 3060 is mediocre, performing around a 2060 Super or 2070.

What would you suggest GPU wise with an i5 11400F config RTX 3070 or RTX 3060?
-
RTX3070
-
Upgrading the processor in the future will be less expensive than upgrading the video card, so it is better to take a more powerful video card right away
-
hacktrix2006 Hold My Vodka, I going to kill my GPU
Ok thanks for that, coming from a GTX 970m (as my GTX 1060 died). Just after 144fps total. Looking for under 2K

3060 should easily be two times as powerful:
https://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-RTX-3060-Laptop-vs-Nvidia-GTX-970M/m1452971vsm17319
The 3070 will add another ca. 30% performance increase but if you only need 144Hz you should be fine with the 3060 - it is just about on par with the 2070 Super in the last model.Clamibot, Mister-Knister and hacktrix2006 like this.
