It's the best shot, other option is getting a 2nd hand chip that someone else has tested. That's hit and miss too of course. -

On TB4 I don't think there is a step down option to TB3. Not sure on the bandwidth I'd have to ping back to base on that.

Very undecided with pulling the trigger on the X170KM.
Was waiting for the QHD screen and it's finally here.
The 150W RTX3080 and the arrival of alder lake are what's bothering me.
I have a Razer Blade so it's not like I'm not served at the moment. Just pretty much had enough of Optimus related issues, plus the 2080mq is struggling to keep up with my 3840x1600 monitor while gaming.
Lots to think about

The 3080 mobile will struggle in some games to drive that ultra wide I have a 3440 x 1440 and can’t max out all games with high FPS

Depends on the detail settings and frame rate you want to hit.

Yep. 3080 mobile ain't a 4K card. Not the same graphics card as the desktop version of 3080.

You might need some DLSS if available to help.

Even a full fledged 3090 desktop will struggle on some 4k titles maxed out and as @Papusan said the mobile 3080 sure isn't meant for 4k. It sits firmly between a 3060ti and 3070 desktop. Even those cut down 4k resolutions will pose a challenge to the mobile 3080.
@Shark00n Anything from Clevo won't be till next year and that's assuming they bring out some full desktop Alderlake loving. On the other hand, if you're not pressed for something new in the next 4-6 months, might as well wait.Papusan likes this. -
currently running 11 for testing for clients , but having issues with atlas have tired a few work arounds on first install fresh didnt work did a few different drivers worked fine for about week then software updated and no nothing keeps saying connect the device
-
I'm running Win11 on my X170KM-G since 4th october. Works great and stable. 3 days uptime!!!
Also no software issues with old Adobe and Autodesk software.
Only logon was slow after upgrade from Win10, but this could be fix very easy. -
no issues out side of the sound blaster atlas not working to boost the speakers are very low
-
I don't use the internal speakers very often. In the XMG discord channel, you'll find a solution for the problem:

Honestly i dont think its any better on 10. I have experienced low sounds which certain sounds meaning i suspect the sound is unbalanced.Jaces9900 likes this.

Windows 11 may simply need more time to be developed for.

Today my ssd coolers arrived and they fit perfect into the X170KM-G. Only the NVMe port neary the battery cant use with the cooler (to high).
The coolers are working great!
When i did a performance benchmark before with Samsung Magician, the SSD temperature raised over 70°C - with all SSD and full fan speed!
Now with idle fan speed of 40% (15% offset):
Samsung 970 Evo = max. 62°C
Samsung 980 = max. 58°C
Samsung 980 Pro = max. 62°C
And with full fan speed:
Samsung 970 Evo = max. 54°C
Samsung 980 = max. 48°C
Samsung 980 Pro = max. 51°C
I'm very happy with the upgrade!Attached Files:

Thanks.
Yeah, I was very close to ordering a x170km but I've decided to wait for alderlake and 3080 super or better.
My Razer is fine. Just Optimus really grinds my gears, requiring restarts as gaming performance is inconsistent sometimes. But it serves me fine for a few more months.
Haven't gamed that much since Cyberpunk came out actually. Was really pumped for Battlefield but after trying the beta I'm sure 2021 will be the year I gamed the least in like 2 decades
Every game sucks, studios can't work from home with the same quality.

what are ideal prices for the 170km-g model and can the 1080 144hz cable work with it ?>
-
nice where did you order these it looks great!!

They do brighten up the interior! -
The price for a 2k 165 hertz matrix is 350 $, for a 4k 120 hertz matrix is 500 $, they work with a 40 pin EDP 0.5mm cableJaces9900 likes this.

Has anyone got Ubuntu to work? I get an error message while booting from the installation stick saying there is a BIOS bug related to TPM.
-
I just wanted to give a update on my laptop. HID has it and said there not seeing the artifacts in games. I bascially experienced the same thing that i wouldnt see anything for week then out of no where something would happen.
-
Hi guys,
I got my Schenker/XMG laptop 2 months ago and maybe once per week or two weeks I get a random shutdown. When I try to power it back on, the led on the power button turns on for 2 seconds, then turns off. I need to remove the battery and put it back again to power on the laptop again. I am using Ubuntu as my OS, checked all the logs for high temps or other critical errors, but nothing there. My config is the following:
i9 11900k
gtx 3070
1x32gb samsung@3200
1x512gb samsung 980 pro
3x1tb samsung 980
I was reading this thread and saw someone said that the 3200mhz ram modules should be on the slots under the keyboard, and mine is placed under the bottom cover.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks
-
Which BIOS version is installed?
-
Bios version is XMG 1.07.05RTR1
-
Did you reset the BIOS settings to default after BIOS update?
-
No, it came with that version installed, I didn't update the BIOS.
Only thing I changed there is I disabled discrete thunderbolt, because it takes > 1min to boot on Ubuntu. -
The problem is mostly with 4 dimms and it gets worse when using the dimms under the keyboard.
If your dimms are under the bottom then you are OK.

is this a custom heat sink and all ??
-
I just got Conductonaut in and planning to repaste this week. I have used LM multiple times on other laptops. I normally use silcone conformal coating to protect exposed pins but these are soldered on CPUs and GPUs.
What is the best way, if needed, to protect the surrounding pins and such when using LM on the X170?
Thank you! -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Yes it's a custom heatsink. -
Seems like when the laptop came with no os, and we did a fresh install, there were no touchpad drivers on the website for either clevo or sager. I also installed the intel hid driver and made no difference. Would anyone know what the deal is with that, is the trackpad not programmed correctly or is there some special driver we need to get? The device id said it was elan.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
It should just use the windows precision drivers.
-
Same here. Did a fresh install and unable to use gestures any longer on the touchpad. No luck uninstalling drivers and or removing from Device Manager. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
If you search for precision drivers does anything come up in the system?
-
Just seen a video on youtube about 12900K. Apparently it can pull 330 watts. Do you think clevo will be making another laptop ???
-
hacktrix2006 Hold My Vodka, I going to kill my GPU
Well if they use the same chassis as the current X170 they will be a bit cramped for space with that socket unless the socket size is the same or pin density is greater.

Hey guys just giving a update on my laptop. I am happy to say HID is replacing the GPU. They did see the artifacts I was seeing so they said it was a special request which I can understand but it wasn’t like I didn’t have evidence with the videos I produced. They are pretty good they just take a while to get to you which is the only down side.

11900k can pull 330w too if overclocked. I had two that pulled ~330w @ 5.2 and one that pulled ~370w. But in a clevo laptop you will be looking to run it stock and undervolted. Maybe a touch of OC if it is a good bin. Hopefully there won't as wide of a variance of pull, watts and heat as the 11900k experiences. -
But X170KM-G with 11th gen intel CPU have big problems with enabled OC and uncontrolled shutdowns. And there is still no solution available.
XMG thought about removing the OC feature completely, but the customers are not very happy.
For a stable X170KM-G (with 11th intel CPU), you can't use OC.
I ordered today all stuff to delid the CPU and optimize it with liquid metal. So i hopefully can set PL1 to 170 or 180w with good temperatures.electrosoft likes this. -

Honestly, I would be fine with just getting the 11900k to run complete stock and be able to pass CB23 without hitting the 90s and no dips due to being power starved or an inferno. The stock PL limits are woefully inadequate for any meaningful OCing once you get the 11900k going past stock and depending on chip even stock can be 210w+
I don't know what happened so badly moving from the Z490 based X170SM-G to the Z590 based X170KM-G or what is the ETA for Prema BIOS for the X170KM-G.
How are your temps and what is your pull at stock when running CB23? Delidding can seriously shave 7-12c off depending on the pre-existing STIM job by Intel so that will definitely help. I'll be curious to see your results before and after especially in the X170KM-G which doesn't have access to major desktop level cooling to compensate every degree will help.Papusan likes this.
