Does anyone know what the adapter tip type is for this laptop? I can't find the adapter tip for universal power banks anywhere.
Perhaps that's because this may be a non-standard adapter tip. I only know of 2 laptops that use this USB-like adapter tip.
Good thing this laptop has an easily swappable battery.

How do you take off the keyboard

How is the 11900k treating you thermals wise in the km chassis? What clocks and settings are you using? -

There is two screws one near each fan. Its marked with a keyboard icon. simply remove them and then place a blunt cylindrical object into the whole after placing your laptop side ways. Just make sure you have a hand to catch the keyboard just incase. As the flex cables are get damaged easily enough.

Okay, now I am sure that Clevo was sneaky and secretly did something with the lcd overdrive in the new model, just like with p775dm3-g->p775tm1-g.
X170SM 240 hz panel:
Look at the third ufo line, there is a visible white outer line on the left side of the ufo, which is corona effect caused by lcd overdrive. Normally it would be a duplicated ufo, however it is displayed in white because the pixels can not display the correct color due to the lcd overdrive side effect.
x170km 300 hz:
Another x170km machine with 300 hz:
I do not see that white outer line with the KM. Or am I the only one only seeing it with the SM? (Don't have a picture of the 300 hz SM, but trust me, it had the same problem ad the 240 hz panel)
For reference KM with 144 hz:
As you can see the 144 hz panel is fine too with the KM and no white outer line in the left side caused by overdrive.
I am sad and happy at the same time. Happy because Clevo listened and sad because just like before they did not admit the issue and secretly fixed it in the new model and will never fix it in the previous model (x170sm).
The above images were captured from the videos made by four users, I thank all of them for making it possible to make this comparison ! -
I received my X170-KM-G yesterday from HIDevolution. Less than 30 days from time of order arrived next day after build in another country. Impressive you say, yes indeed and with crazy cool thermals. I am very impressed so far with Max and Ted from HID and DHL Personal. And with tuning schedule to be booked it should only get better.

It has been great. Stock clocks and PL with an -100mv undervolt. The single-core increase is noticeably better than the 10700k. With the undervolt fans do not ramp up very often during productivity use and noise is much better when gaming. Not quite as good as the 51m R2, but it really is tough to beat that CPU vapor chamber. CPU and GPU are pasted with Thermalright TFX.electrosoft likes this. -

What are your specs? I literally ordered mine on April 4th and it's still in preproduction and hasn't shipped yet. Getting kind of annoyed here. I know they are working hard but seriously I've seen others get there's shipped and mine still hasn't been yet. I wonder if it's because I upgraded a bunch of stuff.

We've been talking. I know they're working on it but it's just frustrating. But from all I can see here it's worth the wait. This laptop looks like a beast and I can't wait to get it.

I am waiting on mine too
What did you upgrade -
Maybe the rush fee is the difference, but could also be the specs. I do a lot of data science work, so I kitted the thing out originally with the i9-11900k delidded with upgraded cooling, 128gb of ram, and 3080. 1080p 144 hz panel. But they came back a few days ago and said they couldn't delid the 11 series because of the risk (which I had assumed would be the case after ordering and doing more research on the stupid 11 series processors), so downgraded to the i9-10900k with delidding and upgraded cooling. I am thinking it was more of an issue with the 11th series processor. Which I shouldn't have even thought about ordering in the first place. It's worth the wait though I can see.

I went with the delidded 10700. Very good cooling so far.

Makes more sense over the i9 IMO. -
Why’s that

Most reviews of the chips say the same thing, worth a watch. -
I got the 10850k will the temperatures be better then the 10900k
-
About the same (10900K is a better binned chips).
The point at which the two processors mostly differ is on power and thermals. The Core i9-10850K is a less strict bin of the silicon, and this is showcased very much in a couple of metrics. If you get over the fact that both processors are going north of 250 W at full load, our Core i9-10850K was drawing 15-20W more peak power, which is 6-8% higher, despite being 100 MHz slower. This manifested moreso in the processor thermals, where we were easily going north of 100ºC on this newer processor.

So I should have got the 10900k?

Depends if you want try get the last drop of performance/lowest possible temp out of 10th gen chips. But you could be lucky and get an ok bin. None know before they test it. The higher price is for the better bin (normally a better oc'er).raz8020 likes this.

I just want reasonable temperatures and something that will run beam ng and Microsoft flight simulator decently

Too bad xoitic pc doesn’t offer the prema bios
-
I ordered a i9 10900k(no delid) with 3080 on april 13 from HID. It came in on may 5. Not too long of a lead time I think the delay may have been the i9 11 your ordered.
The EVOC systems from HID do not have prema bios yet but I think it is coming.
So far this thing is great. Build quality is amazing. The only fault I can find ( and its minimal) is external usb keyboards do not allow you to control BIOS / GRUB only the onboard keyboard works till the OS gets loaded. -
How are you liking it
-
I am coming from an HP OMEN i7 7gen with a 1070 and this thing is way better. Granted this EVOC was 2.5k more money but I would never go back.
This thing is quiet too. I have only been playing Valheim and spelunky2 in linux but the fans never come on while playing at 4k.
The 4k monitor seems pretty high quality at 60hz its nice and warm.Last edited: May 9, 2021Papusan likes this. -
Just received my X170KM-G from HID and so far have been loving tinkering with it. The system is definitely putting up a fight though. I was wondering if anyone might have more experience than me with this system.
I ended up ordering a delidded 11900k, but so far, whenever I turn on the overclocking function in the bios, the OS will quickly BSOD with a clock_watchdog error. Even before any sort of undervolt is applied. (First encounter was actually during the OS installation) Things got even weirder as after I was turning overclocking on and off to hopefully help with the BSOD, the system ended up in a state where the BIOS said overclocking was off, but Throttlestop still allowed undervolting of the CPU. (I assume the BIOS was reporting the wrong value?) All in all it's been a pain and I hope I might find more success once the Prema bios comes out.
I picked up a pcie4.0 SSD, but had to open the system up to transfer it to the correct SSD slot for the pcie4.0 performance. The speeds are crazy and those three empty slots and tempting me to confiscate some SSDs from other systems to build out a RAID array using slower drives for media storage.
The RTX 3080 flies, I was concerned after seeing initial reviews of the mobile version, but in this system with the 165w power I had plenty of juice to both run Final Fantasy XIV at 4k, max settings, maintain 60fps, all while broadcasting a 1080p stream to Twitch and a local 4k recording using NVENC. This actually came up since there was a quirk with the HDMI port on the system as well. It wasn't registering anything was plugged into it. (Since been fixed with a full OS re-install)
So far happy with how the system has been performing. My only hope is to be able to get further with at least a bit of undervolting of the 11900k if anyone's ran into similar issues in the past with the BIOS overclocking settings on these. On that note, is there a new keyboard command to do a full CMOS reset? I attempted FN+D but didn't see any obvious result from it.
This is a bit concerning to hear as I also ordered the 11900k delidded from HIDEvolution. Was this on a recent order?Clamibot likes this. -
Yeah, I placed my order on April 4th, and a few days ago Ted sent me an email saying:
Unfortunately I have more bad news. I needed to remove the delidding service because we found out there is a big risk of damaging Rocket Lake 11th gen CPUs during the process (much more so than previous gen CPUs).
Either recommended removing the delidding feature or moving down to the 10900k. So I decided to downgrade to the 10900k with delidding. -
Can I delid myself
-
I am coming from a 1060/7700hq
-
Absolutely, that's what has me worried. I already paid for the delidding service and have the system. I hate the idea of pulling off the heatsink and needing to re-paste, but I might open it up to make sure the CPU is delidded.
From the invoice:
Processor
HIDevolution Delidded Intel® 11th Generation Rocket Lake i9-11900K 8 Core - 16 Thread Processor, 3.5 GHz (Max Frequency 5.3 GHz), 16 MB Smart Cache - $640.00bca009 likes this. -
Before you do anything, I would reach out to Ted and see. Maybe you were one of the lucky ones that were able to get their 11900k delidded, before they realized they could make mistakes. I assume they started delidding them, and then broke more than they originally thought. I am assuming they might've broken some and then said, no more delidding the 11 series to protect their bottom line.
The 11900 is able to be delidded, but it's a bigger risk than the older generation processors. -
Can I ask what exactly does Delidding do? Just removes the IHS?
What are the temperature difference -
They remove the IHS and then add conductonaut between the IHS and the CPU die, and then place the IHS back on. It should lower thermals decently because the conductonaut is better at transferring heat, than the normal OEM paste that is between the IHS and CPU die.
-
That makes sense
-
Does anyone know what is Intel using with the 11600k under the IHS? Solder like with the 11900 or toothpaste quality thermal paste like in the older days ?

Depends how much you want to push it and tweak. -
Silicon lottery doesn't delidde 11th gen due the increased risk for breaking something in the process. Take a look from 8:0 min in the video. Delidding tool/razor blade aint't enough. You also need to use a stove/oven for Rocket lake
10th gen is a lot easier to delidde.

We stopped delidding 11th gen Intel CPUs, we already damaged 2 in the process. It's very risky.jclausius, raz8020, electrosoft and 1 other person like this.
